No ports, tiny non upgradeable storage, keyboard that constantly breaks..

    No thanks.

    • it does have ports. I think you are confusing the macbook air with the macbook. The latter which only has a USB C.

haven't heard about keyboards breaking constantly. My MBA 2014 is still going strong with heavy use.

100% agree about storage being way too low.

Apple changed over to butterfly switch style keyboards in models that follow the 12" MacBook design language. They are notoriously susceptible to failure, so much so that they included 2019 model Macbooks in their keyboard extended warranty program before they were evwn released. News reports are that they will be going back to scissor style keyboards in the future.

      • How’s your battery holding up?

    From 2015:
    Macbook Line= Shit Line
    Not changed till now.

Crazy to think my early 2015 MBA (which I love) came with 256gb storage, and they're still producing laptops to this day with the same (or lesser) storage capabilities. You'd think we'd be at like 1TB SSD's minimum, now.

There are Phones that have 1tb of storage these days, you can also get 1tb microsd. Good ol apple tax. Costs an arm and a leg to get the 512gb sdd, which should be the minimum. Too bad no one else makes laptops as well made as macbooks (still using my 2012 retina macbook…)

Apple makes horrible hardware and good software. Flexgates and keyboard issues are the main ones…

        • They are definitely issues but not enough to write off their entire history of producing excellent products.

@pharcyde: srsly, history of good products? have a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUaJ8pDlxi8&t=1234s

@XanderYuan: Those cherry picked examples of defective products don't constitute the phrase 'Apple makes horrible hardware'. I've had nothing but positive experiences with my products over 15+ years and I'm sure millions of other people are the same.

You can go out of your way to find defective products under any brand. Not sure why you are singling out Apple?

              • -1

@pharcyde: Not sure why you are defending Apple for making a product that has unique failures like keyboard for 4 generations. The point is that Apple don’t learn from their mistakes they repeat them and lie to customers

              • @pharcyde: for example flexgate. There is no other laptop that has
                1. A failed screen cable that will fail due to normal usage
                2. Have the cable attached to the screen so third party repair shops cannot replace it or their customers can not replace it themselves
Additionally, Apple has admitted a problem on the 2016 model but not 2017, just wow how can a company do that

              • @pharcyde: “These MacBook Pros have been the most troublesome Macs ever released if I'm not mistaken. Keyboard issues, battery expansion issues, SSD issues, and now failing displays. I wonder if engineering for function over form would have prevented all of this? TBH I would be ok with Apple issuing a full recall of the 2016-present line of Mac notebooks.”

Just go search anything about flexgate on the internet please

@pharcyde: it is very likely that your macbook also has issues, design flaws since nearly all models have them

  • only addition for 2019 model is the True Tone Feature for the display

Also the keyboard is butterfly 3.5. Bit early I believe to know if that will be an improvement over the previous one in the long run.

  • dual core i5-8210y. no thanks!

  • Wife has the 2014 model Macbookair, no problems with it.

Early 2014 MBA runs windows rather well.

Only drawback is screen isn’t 1080 which can make it hard to focus on more than one thing, which can be good and bad depending on what you’re doing.
