    unbelievable price… come on… 55" for $349. delivered!

  • Dam i need slightly smaller TV for under $300…. cmon Amazon

      • sweet thanks

      • Wondering whether it's worth getting this instead (or paying $50 more for the equivalent 55-inch) for HDR…

        • +1

Me too. Apart from 5" size difference is one better than the other?

        • +3

I wouldn’t pay extra for HDR, not at this level. These sorts of TV’s can decode HDR, but they don’t have the colour gamut or peak brightness to display HDR properly, or even noticeably for that matter.

      • +1

I ended up with the Amazon. Disappointing to hear about the Chromecast as YouTube is going to be the primary use for this screen. Was there a specific version it was bad on? Do any updates improve it?

Another key difference is Sonniq = 100hz, Kogan = 60hz

  • +1

    Noice.

  • +26

Loved this from one of the reviews:

Some rough edges, but the set of drawers it's sitting on cost more
    6 May 2019

  • +1

I got it for $450 during Cyber Monday 2018.
Its been a good TV for me. So for $350 its definitely a great grab.

    • +1

Do you know if kayo sports works with it?

      • 'Chromecast Built-in'

        • +1

Soniqs implementation of "Chromecast" leaves a lot to be desired. I've had a few dropouts whereas the nvidia Shield has never missed a beat.

    • +2

Would you mind listing the IO for this TV?

I checked Amazon, the product page and the manual but none of it listed what ports this TV has

  • +6

3 year extended warranty on these too!
    https://soniq.com/au/warranty-terms-conditions

    • +2

Considering JB dumped them after an exclusive 15 year deal earlier this year, I would trust soniq being around for that long

  • Good enough for me, thanks op.

  • Saw some reviews saying it's not real 4k? Why would that be? This is great price though!

    • +3

      perhaps this?

native 4096 x 2160 4K resolution, the new Ultra HD consumer format has a slightly lower resolution of 3840 x 2160. This is one reason why some brands prefer not to use the 4K label at all, sticking with Ultra HD or UHD instead.

      • Cheers, probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway

  • +1

Thinking of buying one, any good for gaming?

I'm likely to be using it for movies, youtube and a switch. 55 seems so big though.

  • Cheers I grabbed one for a secondary TV

  • Thanks op. Good price. Nice small TV for my gym.

  • +2

Couple of reviews on the Amazon listing saying the Chrome cast audio lags. One guy using his own Chromecast plugged in to get "HD" content?

  • +2

Bought one and refunded after two returns - beware dead/hot pixels and poor up-scaling.

    • I was lucky. Nothing wrong with my TV so far. I'm viewing 1080p + on YouTube

  • +2

I've just realised also that Jb hi fi are no longer listing soniq TVs on their website. Something to do with all the negative press perhaps?

    • +5

Dumped for ffalcon (no it's not a typo) :D

  • Wow that’s so cheap!

  • bought one does it shockack back for 12% cash back ?

    • I believe its 4.5% for electronics.

  • ok bought one with cash back and $10 credit from the coupon deal lol

lets see how bad it can be for this price.

    • Its is way worse than I thought for the price. see my review below….

  • What recommendations do you have for a VESA 200 x 400 mounting bracket for this TV?

  • Taking a chance, pulled the trigger on this as main tv for apartment (moving in soon and low on budget). Lets see how bad it is. Thank god for amazon customer service.

  • Does anyone know if these deals normally sell out before they expire?

  • With it having a built in Chromecast, are there any apps inbuilt that can be started/controlled direct from the TV remote or do you need to switch the input over to the Chromecast and then run/cast the apps from another device?

Just wanting to avoid having to have another device (or another remote more to the point) to run Netflix/Stan if possible.

  • +2
    • Thanks for the link, looks like it has a cast button on the remote, which then allows you to mirror or cast a device to the screen.

So no, can't just use the remote to run any native apps, they must be cast from another device.

  • also worth noting that it does not have component/RCA inputs. My PS2 will unfortunately not work on it :(

    • +2

      Surely there are adapters?

      • yes!!! Found a component to HDMI convertor!!

  • Anyone have this and know what the sounds like?

    • Hmm. It sounds cheap but does the job. What kind of info are you looking for?

  • +1

Great value, but I purchased 2 of these during the $399 deal and both were out of the box faulty- still dealing with Amazon to get them returned…

    • What was the fault?

      • One would turn off after 30 seconds- 5 minutes randomly, and not turn back on for at least half an hour, the other had a really bright white light coming from the bottom going up which made the screen nearly impossible to see.

    • Hm. I thought that Amazon should be good in terms of returns/refunds.
      Thanks for info.

      • +5

I've heard mostly good things to be honest, and when requesting the first return, they quickly sent out another before even picking the first one up. Then they failed to pick either up… twice… and failed to respond to my emails. Then charged me for the second one due to not returning. Spoke to them again last night and they requested 2 business days to look into it. $800 down on Prime day is a bit rough.

        • That sucks! I thought Amazon way better than this.

    • No problems with my one so far.

  • Was looking for 75" but this one makes me like just take it 55", don't know should wait for 75" to get under $1000 or this is good offer.

  • Can anyone confirm the IO for this unit.

The user manual only lists HDMI.

  • Anyone who owns one can comment on boot up time?

    • +1

It's really fast as mine just loads to the Chromecast. The software seems very basic.

  • Got one with 2hrs to spare. Hard to argue with the price. The slightly smaller Kogan 50" I had my eye on as the second TV is like $200 more on special… so the Soniq wins this one :)

  • ok finally got pushed over the fence and got one! 4k and 100Hz however cheap must be better than my 4 year old FHD 50" samsung LCD - I hope!

  • Looks like they have plenty in stock.. still available. Not like yesterday AirPods deal hehe

  • has anyone had theirs despatched. tried calling amazon as need to know carrier so can estimate delivery time and arrange someone to be home.

    • I got a sms from toll saying it would be delivered yesterday so arranged to have someone home. Did not come

Today I get a message at 11:48 saying it’s been loaded on a truck then 15 minutes later I get an email saying no ones home and it will be returned to the depot. In this day and age you would thing you could get live count downs to a delivery time on the day it’s being delivered

I can see this dragging on for a few more days yet. I won’t be picking it up so they better keep trying

      • thanks for the response. i suspect I will be dealing with Toll tomorrow.

      • Yep, this free delivery is turning out to be a curse rather than a benefit. I got a message saying it would be delivered today, then 10 minutes later another saying it needs to be collected from the depot. I have to now figure out how I'm going to get a big ass tv home. Even more laughable is that the depot is only open 8:30-3:30. It's like they pride themselves in their inaccessibility.

  • anyone having any issues powering on the tv? mine wont start at all and just sits there with the red light

    • Are the buttons on the side you can try?

If that works, then it could be the remote's fault.

      • Yes ive tried those. I think Ive gotten a DoA tv unfortunately.

Heres my review… note: I have very high end monitors for my desktop PC so the review below may be harsh.

I just got mine today. I have never had a 4K TV let alone even a TV since the CRT days and I am spoit from my 4K IPS DELL monitor but the picture on it is just rubbish. Its like someone put 10 layers of gladwrap infront of it. Such washed out image. tweaking the RGB settings didnt help that much. I initially thought it was faulty but my friend came over to have a look as he had a cheapo 4k tv himself and said it was normal and the expected quality of a sub $500 TV.

I then tried to plug my laptop in to test out the HDMI input. It doesnt scale like at all??? 1080P which should scale perfectly on a 4K TV looks so garbage like I cant even read the text from 1M away. So then I used my work laptop to do 4K. it only does 4K@30hz from a PC input? I even changed it to HDMI 2.0. still 30hz.

And the 100Hz is just silly. I played a youtube video and it tries to do its 100hz thing and the video just looks like if its in slowmo for a micro second and then speeds up for another micro second. Unwatchable and i dont even know how to turn this 100hz thing off….

So i will be requesting a return. its not even worth 300bux TBH.

I would now just consider getting a second hand phillips 43" 4K Monitor as a TV for around $400-450 and get much superior picture quality.

    • hi, did you connect into the internet? i have read that there has been an update to software that improved performance.

      • nope… how do i do that??? dont tell me through the ethernet port…. cuz i dun have a cable for it

        • i am not sure but i suspect it would be via ethernet port. trying to find were i read/saw it. will post if i find it.

        • it looks like tv might be have wifi capability based on manual (read it of manufacturer website). it looks like what i read (ie updated software) was based on different model….link below. however give it a go.

  • Anyone have any ideas about getting ARC to work? I'm trying with a YAS-108 (also from Prime day).

Playback via a Telstra TV connected via the soundbar works but when watching TV only the built in speakers activate.

There's a setting in the menu that's off by default but turning it on doesn't seem to have any effect.

As for a review: starts up in a reasonable time, picture seems fine, Chromecast works, EPG is pretty crap, remote isn't great, built in sound is better than I expected.

    • My one is working. HDMI ARC only available on HDMI 2 so make sure you connect your sounder bar to the right HDMI port.

      • Yes have been using the ARC port. Tried several cables too including one that specifically mentions ARC.

What soundbar do you have? Did you have to change any settings?

        • Well, 1.turn TV HDMI CEC on/ARC on, 2.connect to the YAS-108 using HDMI cable, 3.select HDMI as input source on YAS-108. That's pretty much as I remember.

  • Just got an SMS from Toll informing me of the pending delivery "between 8am and 8pm"… -_-

Followed the link and selected "authority to leave' option - not keen to have to pick it up from the depot.

    • Not worried your neighbour or passer by might knick the visible package?

      • nah, it will be out of sight. Neighbors are good people and we live in a court. Will take the risk! #livingontheedge

  • Got mine today, worth for the price, Chromecast Lag is noticeable, sound is not as bad as people make it out to be. Also didn't notice it didn't have any USB Input :(

    • Maybe the service USB works as a regular USB when it doesn't have firmware files on it? Just a guess no idea if it works like that.

Does the TV have WiFi capabilities to update the software? Read a few comments ago that it ships 4k@30hz and with quite buggy software. Possibly it will also fix the Chromecast lag? Maybe I'm just being optimistic.

      Cheers!

      • Nope TV has no media player capabilities, it does recognize the USB however, maybe for firmware updates?

It does have Wifi but couldn't find any option on the TV or online to update the firmware.

        • Dang. Maybe try with ethernet port maybe something 'clicks' and it'll update?

  • Does this TV run android? I can't find anything to suggest that it does.

  • Has anyone figured out how to update the firmware? There appears to be no option in the menu. For those who had, was there an improvement to picture quality?

  • I got this TV from Amazon, unpacked it and noted it does not have Android. This is not a smart TV & the Chromecast functionality is very laggy. With some fortunate luck after about 30 minutes of use the tv developed a fault in that it would not come out of standby. I rang Amazon, advised them of the issue & got them to pick it up & elected for a refund. For the price one can't expect much, but I was hoping that it was running android when I saw that it had Chromecast functionality. It pays to research further before purchasing, especially with some cheaper brands such as Soniq. A lesson learned.

For what its worth I wouldn't recommend anyone buy this TV unless its for a Rental or something equivalent. There is nothing special about it.

For what its worth it does have a Samsung Panel. Specifically:

    Sumsung/LSC550FF01

The strange thing is that the CPU/GPU looks as though its the same as the Mibox. It has a 32gb flash (Same as Mibox) & 1.5gb of ram (I think Mihox as 2GB). I can't for the like of me understand why they didn't put Android on it.. I didn't think there was any cost in doing so.

  • So who's actually happy with this TV?

The menu/UI and remote is rubbish but it's hard to complain for $350. The picture quality is average but I've found noticeable improvements by turning noise reduction to off (will improve detail), power saver to low (will naturally brighten up the image) and sharpness to the 0-15 range (will improve lines, especially for sport). Unfortunately I don't think there's a way to turn off the motion smoothing which is really annoying but hey… $350…

    • We're fairly happy with it, especially considering the price. Though we upgraded from a 40 something inch full HD soniq, so our expectations were probably lower than others.

    • My head started to hurt with the motion smoothing thing. It's under system I think the MFC option.

      • I tried toggling it on and off while playing back some HD movies (non fast action scenes) and it seemed to work really well for me? The picture is visibly/framerate looks much smoother. Might have to see what it does for an action flick.

  • Well this turned out badly for me. Ordered it on the Tuesday and only just got it today.

First 30 mins were OK. Then after that this happens https://youtu.be/Nx2oX12SMAI.

Amazon are coming to grab it on Monday and giving me a refund. I'll have to either sell the soundbar or return it at a cost of $7 because I don't have a TV to use it with.

I'll avoid soniq from now on.

  • Just setting mine up tonight and it's been running and casting with no issues so far. Feeling a bit lucky after hearing all the horror stories here.

The only thing I can't seem to get is the audio from the TV's built in chromecast, or any of the devices plugged into HDMI 1 or 3. I've enabled ARC and I have HDMI 2 plugged into my AMP, so theoratically this should work but it doesn't.

    Or am I missing something?
