"Please charge from a computer USB port or with a 5V 1A USB power adapter, please avoid any 2.1A fast charging or the charger will be fried."

I've seen this copy-pasta a number of times but never on Mobvoi's website and never with any supporting evidence.

The phone and charging cradle will only draw as much current as it needs (450mA). A standard 500mA USB1 or USB2 port will charge the watch at the same rate as a 5V1A (5 watt) or 5V2A (10 watt) wall wart.

  • Does this use mobile data? I want it for when I leave phone elsewhere (on purpose).

    • No.

    • They've just released a new version of the Pro with 4G LTE but I'm not sure what bands they use. Only other differences is it's slightly lighter, Gorilla Glass and has double the RAM.

  • One of my more regrettable gadget purchases in the last 12 months.

My Ticwatch Pro now lives in the gadget junk draw alongside ye olde mobiles, micro-USB cables, 1GB and smaller SD/MicroSD cards, redundant laptop dongles and power supplier….as well as other "smart" wearables. YMMV, of course.

    • What about the watch did you find regrettable? Looking to purchase this to replace my Huawei Watch.

      • Most disappointing was the grossly-overstated battery life. With very average screen-on use and conservative notification and brightness settings, I was lucky to get 24hrs of use out of it. And then there was the random slow-downs, occasional lock-ups and somewhat unstable bluetooth connectivity (paired with Pixel 2 XL). I had a Ticwatch E2 and saw this as an upgrade. Yeah, not so much ;-)

        • I've had mine for a few months and never experienced the same. This may be dependant on the apps you've installed on it. Try to do a factory reset and use it with only apps that you really need to set if it makes a difference. This is a great looking and usable first Android wear watch for anyone, and you can easily change bands, buy screen proctors and even a watch face protector for it.

          • @Trishool: Agreed. Possibly app-dependent but, that said, I did not experience these problems - with same apps on the same phone - on other smart watches (including the Ticwatch E2).

            • @[Deactivated]: That's super interesting - the main reason I was looking to upgrade my Huawei was the battery life… Did you ever try out the e-ink display and did that have much of an impact?

              • @ngengerous: Definitely not the difference you might expect.:-( My old Casio WSD-F20 (also a dual layer display) was far more gentle on the battery. I'd like to tear them down and work out which functionality really chews the battery (eg display vs CPU vs Bluetooth radio etc). Alas, beyond my skill level and time availability.

                • @[Deactivated]: That's disappointing to hear :/ I was hoping for something groundbreaking, but looks like I might be waiting a little while more!

              • @ngengerous: I use it all the time. I mainly care about alerts and notifications on my watch when Im at work. When Im on the commute to and from work or at home, my phone stays in the e-ink mode which saves a heap of battery and reduces my need to constantly charge it, which in itself will wear the battery faster. The e-ink display also kicks in when the battery is low, turning off BT and everything else (although you can still check your heartrate and count steps with e-ink only mode I think). Seriously more smartwatches should have an default e-ink display.

                • @Trishool: What kind of battery life are you usually getting? Your usage scenario sounds pretty similar to what mine would be.

                  • @ngengerous: Easily 2 full days. I don't have Facebook or Twitter or instagram so o don't get bombarded with notifications all day either, just calls, sms, Whatsapp, and lots of email and calendar notifications.

Just came here to mention the same thing. Amazon and Mobvoi offers both seem timed to end together.

      • Difference would be that there is also cashback available if you buy from Amazon versus Mobvoi directly. Also I've read that Mobvoi's post sales support isn't that great.

        • Second that. Had problem trying to claim the 30 days money back guarantee. Long story short, item's lost and I couldn't get my money back. And now they went quiet.. sigh

  • Yeah I had one of these for 6 months and was an overall bad purchase. Wear OS is sluggish on this device, battery life is average and the watch itself is extremely chunky.

I could look past everything if the experience was smooth but it was actually pretty dreadful. Great concept, love the idea of Wear OS but the hardware is just too dated to run it nicely.

    • Yep I second that. Ive tried Apple Watch 1, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Huawei Smartwatch GT. The Ticwatch is the worst one.. by far. Extremely sluggish and often freezes. Battery life also not as promised.
