Samsung Galaxy S on Virgin Big Cap 29 (200MB, $450 Roll over Credit) + ZERO Handset Repayment

271

Virgin Mobile just dropped handset repayments from $6 per month to $0 on big cap 29.

Great plan, but only downside is that it only has 200mb data. Virgin data upgrades are also pretty pricey.

To be honest I liked their previous deal better of 10 dollars off a month on the easy cap 39 (making it 29 a month with 300mb and $300 of calls. But this is good for those who make lots of calls (and use the internet not so much)

They've also got the Incredible S on Easy Cap 39 with %50 off first 5 months, making it a whisker shy of 35 a month with 300mb and $300 calls. Tempting!

      Bit low isn't it

that's actually for hte easy cap, this is for the Big Cap. Different plans.

Go have a proper read of the thread. It's talking about the Big cap.

        • +4

          hmmm… which bit to read…?

          is it this bit…?

Just found out that they have updated the link and now become Easy Cap $29 instead of Big Cap $29.

should still be able to get the Easy Cap 39 for $10 off a month instore, ends 30/06/11 according to my catalogue.

        • oh ok, I thought that was online only. Good to know. Still think I'll wait for the Incredible S

  • +2

This would be perfect for my mother!

  • +1

who thinks the incredible S is worth it for the extra 4.94 a month on average (plus you get an extra 100mb, but 150 less calls, and no roll over)

    • +1

Count me in. The Incredible S is a very good phone. Wait and the price will be lower soon though.

      • +1

hmm yeah, but my worry is if they drop it to free on the 29 cap, then you're going to get less data.
I can't really see them taking more than 50% off for 5 Months on the easy cap 39 or adding extra data to the 29 cap?

Stil, 35 a month is probably a bit to much for me. I get by fine with only 19 a month on prepaid currently, so that's nearly double

      • +2

Not necessarily.. Virgin tend to have great offers on new phones, then jack the price UP after a while!
Galaxy S was free on the $39 EasyCap at launch, then a few months later it was $10/month on the EasyCap!

They've done that a number of times to phones I was watching and waiting for over the years.

So you think this might be the best Incredible S deal for a while?

    • Likely but not 100% guarantee. Like they had the Iphone 4 for 39+5 and it was the best in the market at that time. Several months later it became more. But at launch the Galaxy S was 49 then it became 39 and remained at this price for quite a long time. So may or may not be the case.

      • Ok thanks. Good to know the pricing history of recent releases. I've only been looking at smartphones for last month or so.

From what you've said it would seem unlikely that Incredible S will drop much further, given it's still a pretty new release. The sensation is coming out, but that's more likely to affect the price of the DHD. Incredible S will still be HTC's flagship 4 incher for some time?

        • If consider the Incredible S is on par with G1 (when the Samsung flagship was at launch), you will need to wait like at least 6 months to see any significant drops in the price. But I doubt they are the same coz more than 20 million G1 flagships have been sold (only a few million behind the Iphone 4)so may be more a hit than the Incredible S. I reckon you will see the Incredible S on cap 29 (at worst 5 bucks upfront)in 3-4 months.

        • hmm don't think I can wait that long!

  • +2

I'd jump on it if it was the smart cap…….

  • I was eyeing on this and finally they have dropped the price :) Great phone, good cap plan.

  • So many 24 month deals. I've found a Vodafone deal $49cap+$20p/m ($69 total p/m) for the HTC Desire HD over 12 months. Is this a good deal for 12 months or is there better?

    • +1

better deal when it was released
      look here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/33276

Although that was with NRMA discount, there is no reason they should not be matching or at least lowering the price on that deal. I would say try $49 + $10/15 and if you have NRMA/AMSR/RAQ? quote that as well.

    • +1

I don't think that's very good considering the phone is almost a year old. I think your grand total ends up being more than my total and I signed up way back in nov with their nrma thing that spawnpoint linked. Mine works out to be around $650 over the 12 months plus I was on the 69 cap so I had more cap and 4 gb data.

  • Any comments on lg optimus black (p970)??? Phone wise?

    • Played with one, not bad I guess. Good hardware but the UI looks cheap.

    • yeah they seem to havee great specs for the price. Look pretty sleek too.

    • I reckon it is one of, if not, the best deals in the market. It is sold outright for 450 bucks in my hometown. Here is 29 bucks for 24 months and 1 case of wine?

      • The onlie deal is now 50% off first 5 months on 29. Decent price and would really consider getting it if it had more than 100mb on the plan

    • It's a pretty standard android phone. I'd go for Galaxy S if you can get hold of one (or Nexus S if you're going Voda/3 since its essentially the same phone).

  • Any confirmations on what version of Android its running? Is it 2.2.1 or 2.2?

    • +1

You can upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.3 so it doesn't really matter what firmware it runs.

    • +1

Officially 2.2 (not necessarily out of the box, but easily upgraded)
But there are 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 "unofficial" versions floating around.
2.3.3 has been released officially in some overseas markets. Optus (ie Virgin) are supposedly in "testing" for 2.3.3 (or possibly 2.3.4).

    • +1

Cyanogenmod on this phone is amazing!

    • Samsung themselves has been releasing 2.3.4

      http://maboot.com/install-android-2-3-4-gingerbread-xxjvp-ro…

the problem is not with Samsung not willing to update, its the freaking carriers pushing them away
(that is why I don't f**king go on 24 month contracts anymore, enough is enough)
