    • U mean a fried chicken store will actually run out of fried chicken? How could this happen :O

      • +2

My local KFC ran out of KFC during one of those $10 for 9 pieces Tuesdays.

        • Shame! Shame! Shame!

        • It's more common than you think. A couple of my local KFC also ran out of chicken on Tuesdays.

        • LOL. The lady actually blame popeyes that she cant feed her children bcoz of that. What has the world come to!

    this stuff is good

Hotstar is ok but I think 2 Peck is better.

    • -1

hmm 2 Peck seems to have a lower rating on Zomato… What do you like better about it?

      • +2

The cripsy coating is tastier and the chicken itself is marinated in some kind of sweet savoury marinade. Try it with the spicy seasoning - sweet, salty, spicy delicious.

        • +1

2 peck nuggets are 10x better. Thin coating and properly cooked.

        • Ah cheers! Will give them a try

      • +1

I've tried both, 2 Peck's has crispier skin but Hot Star's is more flavourable.

    • +1

There's a sweet taste to the chicken that is definitely different to hotstar

  • +10

Hot star's great for when you feel like an A4 sized piece of chicken

    • +4

The question is, when do you NOT feel like an A4 sized piece of chicken?

      • +2

        The answer is A4 + A4 = A3

    • +1

it used to be bigger though

There seems to be a lot of Asian fried chicken chains appearing in Australia lately.

Multi-culturalism means the established population adapts to foreign culture and not the foreign population adapting to established culture :-P

      • +2

if its strictly limited to food, I got no issues with that.

        • It can be an issue for some who live next to a foreign person/family that cook(s) smelly food.

          • +3

@kahn: Just say it. You're talking about Indians and their curry. You'd almost have to rip out the plasterboard once they finish their rent.

            • +2

@fuzor: Not necessarily just Indians, although I have been a victim myself, having lived next to someone where we seemed to share exhaust fan pipes. Maybe once a week, I'd cop a whiff and need to counter with air freshener and turn on my own rangehood fan. It wasn't fun trying to sleep when someone is cooking something nasty at 11pm.

            • +2

@fuzor: Wow! What do they cook/ingredients that makes it so pungent?

              • +1

@t25: Im with you khan have Vietnamese neighbors who cook outside 5 times a day and as we have similar sized verrandhas with minimal gap between the food smell doesnt escape, and aircon intake happens to be that side of the house.

Smells pretty good most of the time, but fried rice at 7am and the whole house retains the smells… They also do something which is like burnt vinegar late afternoon that cleans out the sinuses. Also have indians the other side but that doesn't seem to get captured, I do love a good curry but luckily that smell doesn't come in to the house.

      • Lol at the people negging your comment.

      • +1

Lol this comment. Tell us how you really feel mate.

what's not to like about fried chicken?

    • +1

I thought there were alot of kebab vans popping up everywhere too.

  • +4

They put soo much salt on this it took 2 weeks for my lips to recover.

  • I wish someone told me it was not ba big chicken nugget.

    • +8

It was not ba big chicken nugget.

  • The thumbnail looks like a deep fried hand.

    • +4

Who is to say it's not?

  • Thanks OP dinner sorted with my gf

When we travelled to Taiwan I would line up every night to get this at the ShiLin Markets… Thinking I'd only ever get to eat it there. Now that it's available here, I have only ever eaten it once lol

    • Rarity is part of what makes it special

  • +2

I have never try their fried chicken any good?

    • +3

      its actually really good!

    • I tried it for the first time a couple months ago, and absolutely loved it. I recommend their Cajun flavour though – the chili flavour lacked depth

  • Honestly Hot Star isn't great. We went to the Footscray one a few times and it was nothing special. Their Footscray store is now closed, which says a lot considering it was right opposite gong cha which always has a line out the door.

  • Mostly unrelated: some interesting discussion on the etymology of Chinese words for meat containing 排: Why is “steak” 肉排?

    • +1

More importantly how does 豪大大 mean "Hot Star".

      • +3

Cos better name than house big big

  • tried this in hong kong damn it's goooood

  • +2

Somehow I'm quite disappointed that they included the bone with the chicken. Would be much better if I could eat everything like a schnitzel

    • +2

Seems like it's the breast plus tender plus the thighthighs piece. Might be annoying but at least its real chicken.

  • I had one there today about 2pm. There were 15 people in front of me (I could tell from the ticket number they gave out) and I had to wait about 20-25 minutes for it to be ready.

$9 for two fried chickens is a great deal if you don’t mind the wait. For maximum savings, ask for no bag, as they recently started charging an extra 20c for the carry bag. They gave me a bag anyway, probably because they were too busy trying to keep up with the orders, lol.
