New console Inc shortly. Better battery life mostly, for the same RRP. Not exactly sure when it'll land or what it'll retail for on release.

    • -2

It's not a new console. It's just a hardware revision. Exact same console, just a more efficient cpu giving higher battery life

      • +9

        That's what he meant.

No one expects a new console 2 years after the current one released.

        • +2

Except that literally just happened with the Switch Mini

          • @Merlict:

Except that literally just happened with the Switch Mini

That's a new revision. A new console would be a new generation that has new specs and plays games the previous console cannot play. It is new hardware, but not a new console.

The Switch with longer battery life is also new hardware.

        • No one expects a new console 2 years after the current one released.

          I'm sorry.. what?

DS Lite was less than 2 years after the DS.

DSi was 2 years after the Lite.

          3DS XL was 1.5 years after 3DS.

(2DS was 1 year after 3DS XL.) Parenthesis because, despite being the same generation, you could incorrectly argue "2DS isn't a 3DS."

(2DS XL was mere months after the Switch.) Parenthesis here because I acknowledge they're different generations.

And last but not least, Switch Lite is 2 years after the Switch.

Please don't claim that "we" didn't expect this, just because you, personally, didn't.

          • +1

            @[Deactivated]: Those are handhelds though.
When we are talking non hand helds it's 5-6 years.
            Wii - 2006
            Wii U - 2012
            Switch - 2017

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: They're also the same console..

I mean yes the 2DS/3DS are different, but yeah we won't expect a change. Maybe an upgrade like the Xbox One vs Xbox One X.

            • @[Deactivated]: Switch is a handheld!

          • @[Deactivated]: Those aren't new consoles. They are part of the same family. It's a new model. A new console would be PS5.

If you're going to call them new consoles, they need to play different games.

If you're going to call Switch Mini a new console, then what term would you use for Switch 2?

Please don't claim that "we" didn't expect this, just because you, personally, didn't.

I 100% expect new revisions or models 2 years later, but not new consoles. For instance, I don't expect a PS6 2 years after PS5. PS5 Pro? Slim? Sure. PS6? No.

            • +1

@lostn: What about the new 3ds then?

              plays different games

The Dsi plays different games to a ds Lite too (Nintendo shop)

The switch lite is definitely a new console.

You are confusing a new console with a new generation of consoles
eg leap from wii to wii u, ps3 to ps4 etc

    • Apparently its coming next month according to reposts

    • Same cost?

      • yes

        • Same RRP. I’d be surprised if retailers start selling it for 399 etc straight away, but I’d prefer to wait a month to find out.

        • $359? Wow obviously everyone should wait then.

          • @onlinepred: It won't be 359 rrp lol.

            • @[Deactivated]: So if you want to save money don't wait? Or wait and get these gen 1 even cheaper.

              • @onlinepred: The gen 1s have been cheaper in the past. But the new model will release at the RRP that the switch was originally.

                • @[Deactivated]: So as an ozbargainer, we should no buy the gen one in significant special, but instead wait for gen 2 to come out so we can pay retail?

                  • @onlinepred: No. You wait for gen 3 then gen 2 will be on special price.

                    #foreverwaiting

                  • +1

@onlinepred: Depends on what kind of "ozbargainer" you are.
I got my old switch for <320 in the 2018 prime day sales and there was a refurbished deal through ebgames 2 weeks ago that was <300.

So you can wait for the gen ones to go to those kinds of prices again. Which I'm sure they will.
Or if you're that desperate for a deal on current gen, this isn't a bad price.

Last time I suggested that new models were coming, people were demanding "reliable sources" or it's fake news.

      • Well I hope that you indeed had "reliable sources" to back up your claim, like so.

        https://www.nintendo.co.jp/hardware/switch/had/index.html

        • -1

          Obviously I did.

Nintendo JP is not a "reliable source", it's the horses mouth aka official statement. Journalists getting scoops don't wait for sources like that. If it comes from Nintendo JP, it isn't a scoop, it's news. People who break real news use sources that don't want to be exposed.

If you only believe something if and when an official press statement is issued, you're going to make poor decisions in life because your advanced planning will be nonexistent.

I'm amused that you're still trying to defend your denial of professional journalism.

          • +1

            @lostn:

            Obviously I did.

That's.. obvious? Okay then, if you insist..

I'm amused that you're still trying to defend your denial of professional journalism.

            ..?

I think you're confusing me with somebody else.

Edit - Are you referring to this deal's comments? Because despite your claiming "Obviously I did [provide a reliable source]" it looks very clear that you did nothing of the sort. (Note that not only was I uninvolved in that comment chain, but I also never denied to you that new Switch model(s) were coming. You are getting me confused with someone else.)

            So about that

Obviously I did [provide a reliable source].

..you wouldn't have just lied to me for convenience, would you? Surely I'm missing some detail, or maybe there's a glitch in which your reliable source just isn't being displayed on my monitor.

      • It was revealed very publically.

    • -1

It's for Japan only ATM. Unless it's been confirmed for regions outside of that.

    • -1

New model is only reduced features. Not worth owning.

  • +8

I'd be waiting until the refreshed model lands in a couple of months personally….
    Edit - as above

    • "refreshed model" you mean the lite?

      • +11

There's a refreshed standard model confirmed as well which has been confirmed to have better battery life. Likely running on the same chipset as the refreshed lite version without the hardware cuts.

        • +2

Oh Alright. I haven't kept up with the news. Thanks for letting me know.

I'll stick with my old model for the hackability :)

    • Interesting, any word on price? Or will it just gradually replace the stock of the normal Nintendo Switch and not really be publicly advertised?

      • That's right.

They're not going to have 3 SKUs simultaneously. That's not a good idea.

  • +1

If I never plan to take it off the dock, is it still worth waiting for?

    • I'd wait for a proper tear-down but rumors are that it could have higher clock speeds (though they'll probably lock them to the same as the current model) it could still potentially be hacked and manually overclocked, as well as better RAM (LPDDR4 to LPDDR4X).

Basically more efficient CPU + RAM which means longer component lifespan due to less heat generated.

    • If you never ever take it off the dock, then no. But it's nice to have options. You never know down the road if you might change your mind and take it with you some day. The battery life improvement is very significant and I'm kind of pissed it didn't release with that much life in the first place.

    • -2

New one can't connect to a dock etc.

      • +1

there are two variants expected to release soon! one is a boosted version of the current switch and the other is the lite (the one you are referring to)

  • -1

Nice find . Prior to your post , on Ebay I had no clue at all that code was applicable . Showing take 3 % off on item .

    • Yeah I've seen a few Ok deals that show the pickle code instead of PONCHO10 even though PONCHO10 works on them.

      • +1

haha…. same for me too… My desperateness made me try the new codes…

  • +4

I know it's the US site, but it looks like the packaging might be a good 'tell' to identifying the new version when it arrives (different box art):

    https://www.nintendo.com/switch/buy-now/#nintendo-switch-wit…

    • Subtle difference but none the less, good to know. Thanks for this link.

  • If you do not have to have it, wait. New ver is better with battery life almost double. Unless you always docked.

    • +1

How long till price gets down this low though?

      • +4

        Black Friday in November.

        • $359.10? Took years for the current gen to get to this price

          • +2

@onlinepred: Its the same machine, just better battery life.

Edit. Imagine PS4 to PS4 slim. Same smell, similar price.

        • +1

But that's 4 months away! I need one now so I can play games I've bought already (thanks Amazon!)

  • +5

how did OP know we only bought Switch games from that Amazon prime days lol

    • +4

I travelled in the same boat :)

      • +2

        And me too

        • +1

          same here

          • +2

@tzar: Same here. But then I caved and bought a switch 2 days later for $378. Couldn't stand waiting. Was worth it in the end. Playing zelda all weekend was amazing.

            • +2

@Shaun Prawn: my discount zelda is sitting on a bookshelf, still wrapped in plastic, taunting me from across the room… dammit

            • +1

@Shaun Prawn: Jealous. I also caved and bought one Wednesday but still waiting for mine :(

  • Wait for the 9 hour battery model

  • +2

Legend. Just in time for Three Houses! Impatient child brain doesn't care to wait months for the revised model.

    • yess three houses hype

  • Can you use this code plus eBay code for another 3% off??

    • It doesn't stack up that way.

  • Was waiting for a deal until new model with double battery life was announced…you would be mad to buy this when new model out in 1-2 months.

  • Was waiting for Amazon to come with the goods on Prime day on these, they failed, will wait till Black Friday on the newer versions, till then, Pornhub.

  • Genuine q, for those who wait new hardware, how do you know the retailer sell the old stocks or newer batch?

  • Have they fixed the common drifting analog stick issue?

    • Nope! :)

    • there is no issue, according to nintendo

      • Using it/holding it wrong?

        Oh wait. Thats apple.

  • That day 1 release price must have been so good it hasn't come down in two years.

    • What was the price back then?

      • $459 officially. But it wasn't hard to find for $399.

      • Pretty sure I saw it for this price in the first month.

  • They are saying that there won't be any obvious way to tell which revision you'll be buying unfortunately. Unless the sellers specify in their ads. Time will tell I guess.

    • Product serial numbers are included in most ads aren't they?

      • Not if it's ebay.

      • No? Serial is unique to each product.

  • This or lite?

  • I look forward to the Switch mini's inevitable price drop, being put on these 20% off deals.

If the mini hit 300 and then 60% off brought it down to 240, (profanity) it, I'd be tempted to double dip.

    • +6

      Somewhere Maths went wrong..:)

      • Switch OG is 470 RRP, but then dipped to 400, and 20% off that is 320. I know this is a 10% off deal, but I was half asleep and thought it another 20%.

Switch mini RRP is 330. If that drops to 300 being pretty much the norm, as the OG hit 400, when the 300 dollar tag gets run through a 20% off deal, it would be 240, no?

No wrong math, just a tired dumb dumb who thought this was a 20% deal, not a 10% deal.

  • is this deal online only or we can collect it from store too?

    • Ebay Only - Free click and collect as the title and descriptions suggest

      • yeah noticed that after xD, bought and collected from EB games

  • Any rumor about NS Pro? Can't wait to see it.
