  • Howdy,
Does anybody think we will be able to buy this item (and similar) with a 20% off Ebay discount code through Computer Alliance and the likes in the near future?

  • what's the deal with 8 core 8 thread?

  • Prices have gone down. Strange timing.

Is 9900k even worth getting anymore now that they're going to disable HT?

    • Is this just a gossip or for real?

      • They're not forcing it, but they're recommending you disable it. Which means it's not going to be a selling feature if the maker recommends not using it. It's pointless now.

This is a good place for the discussion of the new Ryzen V Intel. Unlike WP where as soon as you mention the pros and cons of Intel you get ambushed by the AMD fanbois and you see your aura gets hammered. Makes it very difficult especially when one of the mods even admits that he is an AMD fanboi. Knocking intel every which way he can. Almost sound like he is being endorsed by AMD.

That said, I have nothing against AMD new Ryzen, even contemplating building using one for a new build just a couple of months ago. I weigh the advantages and decided to go the other way. AMD is very fussy with the type of RAM you use.
When people say Ryzen 3s are cheaper than Intel CPUs that is speaking beyond the truth. If you add the cost of new M/B and the type of RAM with low C then it all adds up. Also, Intel i7 and i9 can do 5Ghz with ALL cores, which users tend to do. Can't be said the same with AMD. Before AMD fans start gunning that the B450 boards are cheap, look at how many users have an issue. You get what you pay for. I want AMD to do well and like to give them a go again in the future. Just not at the moment unless they iron out the bugs when using lower-end boards and the performance penalty with using a lower timing RAM with loose Cas.

They are very popular at the moment because users are so excited. Most of the reviews done are done by using high-end X570 boards/RAMs which cost an arm and a leg and then people chose the lower B450 and RAM when building thinking they'll get the same result. At the moment for peace of mind, I still think Intel has the edge.

I could be mistaken but I thought I've seen the price of i9 lower previously.

    Great prices.

  • Any decent yet affordable motherboard and 32GB RAM recommendations to go with the Intel 9900k CPU?

  • Am i reading benchmarks or reviews incorrectly but for gaming theres like a 2 fps difference between intel/amd no matter what mid or upper range cpu you have? The bottleneck is the GPU

What's happened to cpu tech the past 5 years. It's slowed down.

I have an i5 6600 and thought cause it's years old i was lagging behind the world. Hardly any noticeable difference upgrading the cpu.

Possibly a 30 percent effective speed difference for application tasks but not gaming. I still would rather not spend $500 on a new cpu plus $250 for a motherboard to make apps only 30 percent faster.

Would rather spend $600 on a new graphics card and get a 20fps increase

They haven't slowed down, they've gotten faster. The reason the GPU is normally the bottleneck for games is because CPU performance has improved so much, they are no longer being pushed to their limits.
