  • Should this be merged with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/472494 ? Same price, but delivery is free from Amazon.

Cashback makes Amazon AU cheaper, so separate deal should be fine.

  • Use cashback for cheaper price than Garry Norman.

  • Any reviews on this for a common lounge area?

    • +1

I imagine that is where it is intended to be used. Shared experiences on this site are positive.

      • Working good in a large bedroom with a PS4 running through it on an old 43" lcd. The virtual fx are abit weird but otherwise it sounds fine.

        • Yes when I had the YAS-106 in the bedroom I made sure the output from source (Apple TV) was stereo, and only used the sound-bar in ‘stereo’ mode with bass-extension off. This gave the clearest sound in my situation.

I have one. Depends on use. Overall decent value for money.
music - ok. a little better in stereo than a streaming speaker (but doesn’t really stream apart from Bluetooth and isn’t portable).
If this is sole purpose - consider Sonos or cheaper google

Way better than tv speakers for anything.
Virtual surround is ok - a bit muddy in open areas. Clear voice helps in speaking scenes with action.

I bought one a few months ago for my TV which is in the main area of my 1 bedroomer as when you turned up the audio too loud the TV case would rattle. It's been great, I've watched a few concerts while using it and the audio reproduction is miles ahead of what the TV could produce. I don't know why I didn't buy one sooner.

Would like to know how these bass compare to soundbars with dedicated subwoofer like… https://www.amazon.com.au/Philips-Channel-Soundbar-Subwoofer…

  • +1

Anyone who has one of these, how does it sound for music?

Thinking of getting this for the TV but I know I'll use it 99% of the time to stream music

If you are looking a thumpy bass, an inbuilt woofer does bugger all.
Buy a system with a standalone sub or 2 if you can connect thru bluetooth.

  • Just wondering how to use cashback

Add to the cart. Log in. Then open your preferred cashbsck site and click through to Amazon again and check out.

    • +2

Pretty sure your cart has to be empty before Cashback. So login through Cashback and search for the item and then pay.

      • With Cash rewards you can have it in the cart first. With shopback you need to have an empty cart and then add it.

        • I had a lot of problems adding to cart before going through CashRewards. I was denied cashback on 2 purchases because of it, and 1 I got the cashback but with a warning from support saying that they couldn't track the cashback but still provide out of good will.

So… Always make sure cart is empty first.

  • The link goes to YAS108B instead of YAS108, are they the same model?

  • The other deal thread says YAS 108B does not come with a subwoofer but can be added?
    so who is right?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/472494

    • In the YAS-108’s case the word subwoofer is used to describe the built-in dual 3-inch woofers.
An additional separate subwoofer can be purchased and plugged into the subwoofer output on the YAS-108 to add more low-end extension.

  • Decent soundbar for the price. Just be mindful if you own the Hisense P7, well known connection issues.

  • YASSS!

  • I bought the Soniq TV on the Amazon Prime Sale this month. The TV sound is rubbish and very tinny, so I hope this works

  • Great deal. Ordered, thanks OP :)

  • Anyone use this with HDMI ARC? Work ok?

Want to see set this up with a Samsung ks8000

  • Have the ARC connection issues with Hisense tv models been resolved. I know many have reported issues previously but I know Hisense pushed out an update recently and think I read a user seems to think it has been fixed?

Tempted to buy to pair with a 55p6 which is a second set up.

  • When selecting TV to use its own speakers I get independent volumes between the TV and sound bar. TV remote changes TV speaker volume and sound bar remote changes sound bar volume.

When selecting TV to use external speakers the TV remote does not work and sound bar remote changes sound bar volume.

Anyway to make it use TV remote to change either both or just sound bar volume?

Also I can't tell what volume sound bar is besides listening to it. The sound bar has no volume indicator and nothing appears on the TV.

    • Volume indicator should be on the row of lights on top of sound-bar

Turn the volume all the way down on the TV and just use the sound-bar remote to control sound-bar volume.

Another way is to use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable, and plug one end into the TV headphone output (usually on the side edge of the TV), then plug the other end into the AUX input of the sound-bar.
With this setup the TV speakers will stop working, and you can set the sound-bar volume to half-way (or whatever volume works best) and control the sound-bar’s volume with the TV volume using TV remote.

      • Thanks for that.

Does sound quality degrade too much using the 3.5mm?

I suppose I could turn TV volume down and use the sound bar remote.. Was hoping I could just use the TV remote for everything.

At the moment I have the settings set to TV speakers. This means when I turn on the TV (speakers stay off) I still get the TV speakers working. I can then turn on the sound bar if required if I want better sound.

I suppose that is workable… Main thing was to not confuse my elderly mother with too many remotes!

        • Does sound quality degrade too much using the 3.5mm?

3.5mm cable means sound will be in stereo, instead of surround. Which will be clearer sounding IMO especially voices & dialogue. (Make sure soundbar is also in ‘stereo’ mode & clearvoice on).

If you purchase the sound-bar normally you should stop using the TV speakers, but if you think it makes it easier by having that option (to listen from TV speakers as well) maybe your current setup is good.

          • @thebadmachine: I'll give this a go and see! Sounds promising though.

            Thanks!

    • You haven't said which TV you have or how you've connected, but assuming you're using an ARC capable HDMI connection, you may also need to enable CEC on your TV. It goes by different names across brand (ie my old TCL calls it T-Link, Samsung calls it Anynet+, Sony calls it Bravia Sync etc)

Have a look through your TV settings for something like this and make sure it's enabled. It should then allow you to use either remote to control the volume and probably turn the soundbar on and off with the TV (the TV speakers may be disabled afterwards, or there may be another setting for that also)
CEC should be enabled by default on the soundbar, Yamaha just calls it HDMI control.

      • It's an old Samsung Plasma TV. It actually doesnt have ARC but it does have HDMI-CEC (Anynet+ on Samsungs).

Does it need ARC for this to function?

Anynet+ is enabled on the tv. When I turn off the tv the soundbar also turns off so I assume it works. However, turning the TV on does not turn on the soundbar.

  • The price shows up as $185 now. I was thinking the price stays $165 till 4th August…

  • Has anyone got ARC IN going with the LG B8?

  • I managed to work hdmi arc with sony tv. I failed first then tried with different hdmi cable i had and it worked. Sounds amazing and great value.
