DVD Player Aldi - $29

50

On sale from Thursday

http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_18195.htm

Looks pretty good and if its the same one offered a few times before, seems to get pretty positive reviews.

How do you think it compares to this one?

Go down on wed night perhaps, they un pack the night before, might sell to you then…

      Does this do mkv?

      • its very doubtful this would play MKV as its a standard dvd player with AV connection, the Geardon player is probably better because you can hook it up via HDMI

        • The Geradon's one look good, but have doubt to deal with new company. Aldi one maybe a better choice.

Hmm, buying from a company that is called "Uncle Simon Says" but has the title "Uncle Sam Says" on the tab/open window title…hmmm!?

        • Hi carlenet, our IT guys were told to fix the "Uncle Sam Says" thing but obviously they haven't gotten around to doing it yet… sorry, but we are in the process of cleaning up our website :)

  • Where is the usb port?

    • Looks like it's on the right hand side, next to all those buttons.

  • My aldi player from 2-3 years ago has just stopped working. Is this region-free? The Geardon one may be better if this is not, but return is easier with Aldi…

    • My condolences go out to your loss.

  • rather buy this no queue it is $30 more but excellent quality

Might as well pay an extra $30 and buy a bluray player :p

Might as well pay an extra $400 for a ps3

Philips? Reckon it would be region free? and $60 for a DVD player? This isn't 2005!

    people still use DVD's ?

  • +1

Honestly, unless this is for students/really tight budgets; you're better off getting the $100 Sony Blu Ray that Sanity has on sale. It plays blu-rays and most MKV's (huge plus). It's also flashier looking / has brand name swagger.

    • If you still have an old CRT monitor then this would also be a better option than a blu ray player IMO.
I wouldn't use something like this on any of today's flat panels though.

    • The DVD unit does look very basic and bland. No flash. The only thing remotely "vivid" about this unit is the misleading brand name.

  • How much are people's time worth that they can queue at 9am mid week?

    • +7

Not everyone works 9-5, Monday to Friday (true story)

    • The first (and probably last) time I went at that time it was mainly retirees and housewives.

  • Why buy a no-name brand at this price level?
Well known brands are a little more, but I know which one I will enjoy more.

(Maybe the no-name brand is as good, but who knows!)

    • +1

No name brands are cheaper, ususally more likely to play copy discs( head is not as sensitive as the branded one!) and they are all region free!

Yay, I can finally throw out my VCR player and get into the new film technology.

    • I had to think for a few seconds just what a VCR is lol
