Hi Tipu - On the banner it says min cost $780 but on the disclaimer it says min cost $1560. Which is it?

Available to port–in customers and new Telstra customers only. Excludes Telstra Pre-Paid, Boost and Belong customers. Minimum cost $1560.

    • +1

i am not sure but T&Cs pdf says min cost of $780.

      • Seems like an awesome deal - only problem is I am with Telstra so not sure I qualify. Might give them a call. I pay close to that per month so if I could get the deal it would be a free TV for almost nothing.

        • +1

Although it's bit of hassle, but you can try following:

          1) Sign up as a new customer
          2) Get TV
          3) Jump on Telstra Chat and change plan into new month to month plan. If you are lucky, they will waive ETC. You might have to try with different representatives.
          4) Cancel the plan after few days and just pay pro-rate charge(under $10).
          5) Secure new TV for $10

          • @Ash-Say: How much is the etc ?

          • +16

@Ash-Say: So basically theft? Im all for a bargain but this isn't OzScammer!

            • @SnakeCasablanca: Seems like the chat agents just want sales. Want to cancel an existing expensive contract? Sure, as long as they get a sale for replacing that contract with prepaid lol. They should have stricter guidelines and enforce the cancellation charge.

              • +1

                @Cave Fire:

Sure, as long as they get a sale for replacing that contract with prepaid

This is not even a little bit true. Prepaids are not counted as any form of a sale within Telstra.

                • @ONEMariachi: Overseas as well?

                  • @Cave Fire: For anywhere. The only thing that gets tracked for Prepaid, is if they are activated or not. We have to keep activations above 80%

              • @Cave Fire: Seems like the chat agents just want sales. Want to cancel an existing expensive contract? Sure, as long as they get a sale for replacing that contract with prepaid lol. They should have stricter guidelines and enforce the cancellation charge.

That sounds like victim blaming to me! :)

                • @SnakeCasablanca: how can an huge llc running a promotion be the victim lol, they just write it off and move on.

                  • @Cave Fire: So by your logic… If you save enough money… Eventually I can steal money from you and you will not be the victim? You sound like a commie! hahaha

            • -1

@SnakeCasablanca: I have advised based JB hifi thread.

          • +1

@Ash-Say: You're promoting illicit act, this can be reported to fair trade by TGG or Telstra, OzBargain itself might be shutdown.

You don't want to mess with the Big Boys.

          • +1

@Ash-Say: This won't work. JB Hifi add on a Device Repayment Option to your account. I noticed my ETC was small when I got a new phone through them but then it increased later on when they added it to my account.

        • +7

a free TV for almost nothing.

        • +2

I wouldn't call it a free TV. I'd call it a free 60gb +calls/text per month for a year. The TV is absolutely the thing you're paying for. It might seem like a small distinction, but to me it's an important one. It's how advertisers make things sound better than they are.
Not that this is a bad deal by any stretch of the imagination.
(Edit) Found the (likely?) same TV in JB Hi-Fi for the same list price of $795 https://www.jbhifi.com.au/philips/philips-6000-series-58-4k-…

          • @PlagueD0ctor: I think they mean if you take advantage of the telstra switch plan to the no lock in contract varieties.

  • Eligible transactions for this Offer must be completed on Thursday 25th July 2019. (the
    Promotion Period).

  • Or $400 gift card

    • any guesses what the wholesale cost of the Philips 58” 4K UHD Smart LED TV is? 400 perhaps.
although going by that you would get $200 of wholesale cost goods with the gift card, no deal.

  • +1

Philips TV's and monitors just seem to be cheap rebadged jobs (in my eyes).

The extra $25 a month I am paying vs my current 80GB a month at Optus means that at the end of the year this plan would be $300 more. Reducing the cost of my plan by $100 if you are lucky enough to be able to sell the gift card for the full $400. Meaning I'd only be saving $8 or so per month.

  • So $5 a month extra than the Telstra SIM only plan, ($60 for 60gb), with 12 month contract but free TV.

    Eh.

    • But no pom.

  • +1

I'm looking at this compared to the 12 month prepaid Telstra deal for $200 with 200gb(?) Data.

    Sell tv brand new for say, $650… That's ($780 - $650=) $130 for 12 months of unlimited calls/txt and 60gb per month.

Prepaying/front loading the account with the TV sale money will give you ~10 months "bill free".

Thanks OP, this sounds like a good deal for me

    • +5

I dunno if you'll sell the TV for that much though.

      • True… Even if it was sold for $600, you're still coming out ahead of the other deal by a little, with a lot of extra data

        • +13

I reckon you'd be lucky to get $500 for the TV.

    • +1

Philips TV is just rebadged Chinese TV. You won't get much resale value. Check review online. This particular model does not have good reviews.

  • +1

There's a home broadband connection advertised at the bottom of this page. Any thoughts about that? I am in the market for a new home internet package.

  • +9

I signed up for the free TCL tv on the same plan at jb hi fi the other week. Ended up selling the TV on ebay for $650 (althoghh jb were selling it for $595 but RRP is $999 lol). Then got telstra to apply $10 port in credit to reduce my monthly plan from $65 to $55 per month. Divide the TV sale by 12 months means I'm paying $5pm for 12 months on the 60gb data plan. Can work if you do it right. 😬

    • How does the port in credit work?

      • +1

        Apparently it expired last week.

  • I am in the market for a new mobile broadband plan at about the 60-100 GB mark. Can I use this SIM in a 4G modem or are there any better options around?

    • Yeah, typically you can put the sim in any 4g modem. Some are supposedly locked, but I'm using a telstra nighthawk with an optus sim.

      • +1

I'm doing exactly the same, optus sim in a nighthawk, plugged into my home wifi router.
200gb 4G plan, paid off for 12.5mths by selling off the ipad pro that was bundled with it.

    • Telstra contract does not allow use of their sim on a router.

  • Does this TV run android? I can't tell with any doco online.

Update: TV does not run Android/Android TV. It runs a linux OS called SAPHI.. Basically there is virtually nothing in there equivalent APP store.. Pity, else I would have grabbed this deal.

    • +1

Just get a cheap Android TV box like 2nd hand Vodafone one for $50 bux and should solve the problem.

      • I was planning to get this TV and mount it in the front of a small retail shop for promotional purposes. It would play video over and over.. Not sure if the code running on it can be put on repeat.. I might go to the store today to find out.

Sticking a TV box on the back (like with velcro strips) would work, but would rather avoid it.

        • You should be looking for professional displays (also called digital signage) for continuous use unless you plan on replacing the TV every few months. Using TVs for commercial purpose will also void the warranty as well.

      • I agree with the fix but having another thing plugged in is a hassle

  • With all this, I wonder why I am still with Vodafone. Does telstra has something like $5 international roaming, because this is the only thing that’s keeping me with Vodafone for years.

    • +4

Nope. They have the day pass which is either $5 or $10 a day with a massive 200mb of data a day.

      Vodafone has the best roaming.

    • I believe that have a very similar deal but it is $10 per day.

      • +1

Not similar - Voda lets you use your own data, Telstra gives you 200mb a day.

  • Anyone successfully moved from the JB / GG plan to the month to month Telstra plan this week?

    • I reckon it is no longer possible.

  • This comment may not get popular, but I'm sometime surprised and concerned when people recommend ideas like changing the plan and cancelling it to get a 58" TV or $500 Gift Card for 'free'.
I mean this platform must not be abused to promote fraud and theft and moderators must do something about it - potentially delete such comments or even ban such 'deal'and commentor. If you are finding ways of getting an item worth 100s of dollars for 5-10 bucks (and against the intent of the provider) you're not 'bargaining' my friend but 'stealing' - nothing to be proud of or boast about in a sane society.

    • +6

its not fraud. if telstra ok changing plans its their problem. plenty of deals whete businesses offer $10 gift vouchers and ppl buy 9.99 of goods and get stuff free. notfraud at all

    • +2

Not many people will go through hassle of moving. They will be happy with free $500 vouchers. All companies know this shit and they let it be.

    • +6

There was jb hifi thread full of people who got advantage of this loophole but not everyone was successful.

More likely this loophole has been closed as mentioned in JB Hifi thread.

For your reference, Telstra is doing plan change, they could see you got this plan from JB Hifi or Good Guys, the representative agrees to waive early termination fee though they could see you are on 12 months plan. Telstra is willingly allowing you changes so how it is a fraud?

      • +1

Telstra is not willingly allowing you to steal. They were not aware of its full implication at that time, now they do.

OzB is a public forum, anyone in the world can read it.

Some people is just stupid enough to brag to the whole world after they stole something from loophole. Its similar like tax avoidance.

        • How do you know they’re aware and have closed the loop hole?

        • Telstra can't do anything about it, they set up the deal, they're letting you change plans and then get out of the contract.

        • They can see that your original plan was from jbhifi/tgg, and are aware that they are paid sign up bonuses from telstra for originally signing you up.
If Telstra are allowing the change that is entirely on them.

Cancelling the plan entirely and paying the 390 etc is really not much different, and entirely per the t&c.

I made almost $2000 on the JB end of June hack. Took more than 30 mins, but less than an hour.

😲😲 I see you in every Telstra deal mate. I don’t condone this “loophole”, but at least people are honest about it. Hyprocrite at its best.

    • Sorry, can you explain what is fraudulent about it?

    • zzz its a loophole not fraud, fraud gets you trouble with the law

    • -5

C'mon people, let's say you visit a store - the cameras weren't working and the owner didn't see - so is the shoplifting in such a event be passed of as using 'loophole'??

You have to ask yourself, was this a win-win situation? Did any of the other parties - Telstra, JB or TV manufacturer made any reasonable/minimum amount of money in this process? If not, then you know what you did there.

I love deals and am all for getting highest possible discounts and best value for money - but there is something called morality (sadly appears to be too old school concept now). That's my 2 cents guys, rest it's your life your choice - No offence intended!

      • +1

One is illegal, one is not… you seem to struggle with that distinction

      • +1

I agree with you, however you're not gonna stop anyone from exploiting this loophole. Its Telstra that needs to fix their system.

  • +3

Thanks Op. My 50" tv will be upgraded to 58" tonight 😉

    • +3

      With a phillips.
Unless you're currently running a sanyo, soniq or some kind of bigW tv, you're using the tern 'upgrade' very loosely.

      • +2

I am fascinated to know how bad these TVs can get..

I have a 5-6 year old 42inch Sony Bravia(?) Lowest model, bought for 5-600 I think.

Surely that would be an upgrade?

Wont affect me though, Im on Telstra prepaid, been too lazy to switch out, and wait for one of these deals to pop up

        • +6

          Good 1080p still beats poorly implemented/processed 4k.
HDR is arguably a bigger difference than 1080—>4k.

The size difference is the biggest impact there though, but even 5yo Sony technology would give poor processing of today a run for its money.

If you do change, I'd be interested in how you find the change.

  • +1

Does anyone know if on the Telstra network (Specifically this plan) you can use call forwarding to another number without any additional fee?

  • Thanks OP; it seems like you can choose an XBone S as well with this deal; the TV is a better value I think;

    https://thegoodguys.sirv.com/Content/2020FY/Terms/wk4/bonus-…

  • Wonder if TV will do HDMI 2.0 120hz when at 1080p…

    • No, 60Hz only. That too only HDMI2 and 3. HDMI-1 is limited to 30Hz.

  • I signed up today for 12 months and opted for the tv.

What extra perks can I get when I call Telstra.

    Port in credit $10 ???

    What else?

I don't have any loyalty to Telstra or would feel bad if I can get some more out of this deal.

Telstra is the same I heard, they do not feel bad if they can get as much as possible out of a customer…

    • Port in credit cannot be applied to Good guys contract. See if you can change to month on month plan.

  • +1

So was anyone able to change their plan to month to month plan without ETC yesterday?

    • Reports are it’s working

  • After signing up, the Good Guys is still waiting for confirmation from Telstra, and Iam without an active service after porting out my number . Not very impressive.

  • Anyone know when this ends? I'm trying to port out for a month then back in.

    • Offer ends Saturday 27th July 2019. It's in the terms and conditions 😒

    • I just ported out for 2 hours

  • It seems $400 gift card still available until Sunday. I took TV instead.

    • +1

The $400 gift card offer had been extended to Wednesday 31st July.
      Going to sign up tomorrow

  • +1

Thanks so much. Hubby is setting up the TV now! I was with Belong but ported our this morning to Optus. No worries

  • TV still available?

    • Yes, today is the last day.

    • It seems the TV offer expired yesterday.

  • Did anyone manage to switch to the month by month plans?

  • TV deal has expired, was only valid till 27/7/19. I missed it :(
    https://thegoodguys.sirv.com/Content/2020FY/Terms/wk4/bonus-…
$400 gift card offer is still on.. just in case anyone wants it - same at JB-HIFI stores.

  • This weekend good guys doing$500 gift card
