  • Do I need a WiFi enabled TV? Can I connect to Internet WiFi with the help of cromecast?

    • +4

You don't need WiFi in your TV as it's all going through the Chromecast. This can essentially stream to any dumb TV or screen that has HDMI input.

      • OK thanks

      • +1

Yeah I just use a pc monitor with chromecast

    • No , you don't need. you only need HDMI port on your TV.

      • But how do you get the sound if you cast to a pc monitor?

        • You can connect your monitor to a speaker if it has headphone jack.

  • Did I hear something about the Ultra getting Amazon Prime for free?

    • Any sources for this? I only thought it was Ultra getting Amazon Prime Video 4K content.

      • Maybe that was it.

        • I thought it was the full prime video subscription?

          • @blewey: Haha how does that make sense for Amazon to give (not amazon) buyers free access to their content?

            • @ATangk: I don't know, to celebrate Amazon and google being best of friends now?

      • +1

Chromecast Ultra users get access to 4K titles included with Prime at no additional cost.

if you are a Prime subscriber!

        • +1

That's because there is no additional cost for 4K titles on any 4K-capable device… not unique to Chromecast.

  • Great price but already bought one from TGG at 20% off.

  • Had them in the past, and it was a breath of fresh air for a dumb TV. But a kodi box (at higher cost) stomps it. I can't go back.

    • +2

      why?

    • yes… please elaborate

      • A kodi box compared to chromecast is like a smart tv to a dumb tv.

The price of the chromecast is amazing, and a huge step for an old tv. But a kodi box can do a bucketload more.

Checkout the VodafoneTV, as an example.

  • this or vodafone TV?

    • +1

      This.

      • Why? It's a half-step.

I've got a house full of different options, including Chromecast audio, which is great. But these are now in boxes, or given-away to friends.
