As an owner of a Miele C3 and a Dyson Absolute v11… I vacuumed my carpets with the C3 and then with the Dyson… I couldn’t believe how much extra the v11 lifted. So if you truly have “allergies” just go buy the Dyson… I only use my C3 now for tiles… appreciate budget is a factor for some but yea the difference was huge in my experience…

    • Good review. Curious though on the issues you have with the V11 and tiles? I know the V10 edges out the V11 on hard floors but what are you finding its not great at with tiles?

      • Oh the v11 is great on tiles too, but when I’m doing the whole house the v11 can go flat just shy of completion if I’m really getting stuck into the carpets (putting it on boost). So if I’m doing that I’ll do the carpets first and the difficult to get to places with the v11 and then finish with the Miele in the large tiled areas. If I don’t use boost mode the v11 does the whole house without issue.

        • Nice, thanks for that. Just looking at a V10/V11 but our house is 90% tiles so wanted to make sure it will do the trick. We have a V6 and it can flick things around on tiles a lot so hoping the upgrade will be better. Thanks again!

@worthy1: Yea I haven't had any issues with flicking etc. but I do use the soft roller head on tiles.

At almost 3.5 times the price of the Miele C3 the difference would want to be huge.

Cleanliness is godliness haha. Seriously though like I said appreciate budget is a factor for some and I'm not saying the C3 isn't a good vac, but as someone who does have severe allergies and my baby appears to have inherited said allergies, for the extra that it lifts from the carpets and immediately the difference it made to room (re allergies) I felt it was worth it.

I'm not talking small amounts of additional pickup here either.

My original experiment was I vacuumed my bed room with the C3, tried to be as thorough as possible to make sure I was giving it the best chance I could (I didn't own a V11 at the time I was borrowing a friends to try it out).
I then straight away re-vacuumed with the V11 (without using boost just on auto) and the canister of the V11 was full by the end of the room. My house/carpets aren't old either they are approximately 9 months old. and…. I immediately went out and bought a V11

Are you sure it's V11 and not the motor head on carpet?

Most of the work is done by the motor head, that is Dyson's most innovative invention. You would probably achieve very similar performance on a cheaper v6 or v8 Dyson rather than recommend people blow ~$900 on a vacuum cleaner.

Spending that much on a vacuum is not normal, and it should not become the norm unless you know exactly what you're buying.

          • +1

@plmko: The motorhead was around long before dyson and im willing to bet if ur used ur dyson first and the the miele the miele would still pick up stuff the dyson left..

By 1926, Hoover had developed the 'beater bar' - a metal bar attached to the rotating brush roll, situated in the floor nozzle cavity of the upright vacuum cleaner.[8]Introduced on Models 543 and 700, the beater bars alternated with the sweeping brushes to vibrate the carpet while sucking.

      • Depends whats more important to people. Spending the least or making sure it does its job. I know this is OZB but I would have thought making sure your vacuum sucks up as much cr@p as possible is the main goal especially if you are looking at it from an Allergy point of view. Usually that's the goal, if not then why even spend this much, just go for a cheap Kmart vacuum.

        • sure, if you are looking at it from an allergy point of view. However I think for the price, this is a solid choice.

If you have severe allergies, then a more expensive vacuum may be the best option.

          • @Ten: Yeah and wear a dust musk when emptying the dyson lol

            • @jjoker: Agreed. I replaced a dyson upright with a C3 and couldn't believe how much better it was.

From what I read a bagged vacuum will perform better than a canister vacuum long term too.

Did you do the reverse as well to test that hypothesis?

      • This ^

      • I didn’t because I suspected the large improvement was due to the motorhead but I tell ya what tomorrow is vacuum day so I’ll do that for you and report back ;) haha

  • What a good deal! Anyone know if this or the soft-roller head on stick vacuums better suit wooden/tile floors? We use an el cheapo vacuum and the head doesnt have slits so it ends up pushing the dirt away.

  • This or the Complete C3 Family All-Rounder Vacuum Cleaner - Graphite Grey from Bing Lee? (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Miele-10797760-Complete-C3-Famil…) with 20% off brings it down to $320. Does anyone know what bags they take? Would they both use "GN" bags?

Edit: The Good guys site shows the motor as being 1700W but the good guys ebay page lists it as 2000W (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Miele-10797840-Complete-C3-A…). Can anyone possibly confirm?

    • +1

And then this from Miele in Singapore says 1700W for both

      https://www.miele.sg/domestic/wish-list-1940.htm?tax=7&compa…

The allergy is RRP slightly higher, and the only differences are the weight and the filters

    • +1

I don't have the reference handy but I believe the motors are all the same and the differences between Miele models is the attachments and filtration. When they mention different wattage for the motors I believe this is when some sites are listing the peak power. I know when I replaced the mothers Miele with a new C3 it has variable suction power.

I remember wherever I read about the Miele vacuums previously they recommended having a look at the Miele brochure because the website is pretty crappy, so here is a link to a brochure.

  • How about $399 for one with a turbo head to rival the Dyson? Not sure how many watts though..

  • Hi OP, can you post us any cordless vac deals? Cheers
