        I agree. Haven't played AW yet but Nightmare was pretty good although towards the end it felt a slight bit too much repetitive. But I guess that's part of the nightmare. 🤔

      They're doing everything they can (except making a good service) to try and carve out a chunk of the pc market. This is why they have purchased 12 month exclusivity deals with so many games including kickstarter titles that were explicitly promised to launch on other services.

      I ain't touching their launcher but people love free so whatevs.

        Honestly the curated store they have is fantastic. I've actually discovered new games from it unlike Steam for the last 5 years.

          More power to you, but they don't need to pay to delay games on all other stores in order to have a curated store of their own. If they were giving out all these free games and had built a good launcher but not buying exclusivity there wouldn't be any negativity or controversy, just good wishes. But they chose this strategy instead, which I strongly object to. I'm not begrudging you from enjoying whatever you want to, but I'm personally not going to use their service.

            @ThoseDeafMutes: You are new to the market and the main competitor has, for all practical reasons, a complete monopoly over the market share. How do you convince consumers to move from the competitor's service over to your own?

            • You can't entice them with games that are already available on both services; the customer has built a library of current products over a significant timeframe with your competitor and prefers to keep everything on the one service.

            • You can, however, entice them with products not available on the competitor's service, giving your own service an opportunity to attract the customer with product exclusivity.

            Now the customer has a reason to move over to your service as there is a product they very much want to use but is only available on your service.

            You might not like this approach, but how else does Epic get their foot into the door?

            Regardless of their methods to attract customers, as consumers competition is a great thing for us.
            Now there is an alternative option, now there is a reason for both services to compete for your money.

              @hey aj: From a strictly corporate perspective, you don't have to convince them to leave the other store, you just have to convince them to buy things on your store or entice them to use it. They already have millions of people using their store for Fortnite.

              • Have great sales where the deals are so good people almost can't refuse (they already did something like this but bungled some aspects of it which made embarrassing headlines)
              • Give away free games (they're already doing this!)
              • Develop good features that people want, not just the baseline minimum that it's embaressing to lack (like a shopping cart, a search bar, and cloud saves, all of which this service either did not launch with or still lacks to this day). Look at what GoG Galaxy 2.0 is doing to try and consolidate the multiple launchers people already have - that's an interesting new feature. Epic could have tried to do something like that, but they ain't bothering to compete in features.
              • If you want exclusive games… develop them. They already have Fortnite as an exclusive to the launcher. Either develop more exclusives internally or hire 3rd party companies to develop new games for their launcher, in the same way Oculus does for their store. People are way, way, way less mad when the game would not exist if not for your funding, versus getting pissed when the game was months from launch and you snapped up a 12 month exclusivity deal.

              I could go on for hours about how Valve only represents a minority of total dollars in PC gaming (despite being the largest individual storefront) so they aren't anything like a true monopoly. Or how even if they did have a 100% marketshare on PC (not even remotely close!) they would still experience competition in the form of console and smartphone stores (like they couldn't just jack up game prices because people could easily just play games on other systems). I could point to the proven track record of Valve being a consumer friendly innovator with their storefront who never stopped improving things even though they are the clear front-runner for individual stores.

              But fundamentally, Epic's strategy is not the only viable one, nobody tried anything else, it's just the one that operates the quickest with the least amount of effort on their part, and I'm not here to cheer on corporate decisions that make my experience worse. You say "competition is great" - what am I benefiting from these exclusivity deals? They're not causing free games, that's an unrelated part of the strategy for those who take them. They're not lowering prices on games. They're just either fragmenting my game libraries even further, forcing me to wait 12 months to play some games, or I have to accept a dramatically inferior client with far less features. Epic is the one playing massive catchup to basic features, not Valve.

I don't care about mobile or console or brick and mortar stores, I am talking about Epic Game Store and Steam and the comparison between only these two platforms (apples to apples). Everything you have mentioned outside of this comparison is not for me to discuss.

                • I would argue that giving out free games is definitely a part of the strategy to win customers over to their platform, and the games that are exclusive for 12 months, also, are an integral part of their strategy and make up the grand strategy together.

                • I would also argue that in large organizations there are teams of people with managers and department heads responsible for creating a viable strategy on how to increase market share, their job is to work out the best way to combat Steams 75% market space and the aforementioned strategy is what they went with, with their ass on the line if it's a failure. But if you disagree with them and think it was the quickest and least time and effort-intensive solution that is fine as an individual to voice. I am no expert and perhaps you are, as you said you are coming from a strictly corporate perspective.

                • Epic Games are very competitively priced on products that are available on both platforms… Cyberpunk 2077 anyone?

                • As for being upset that you would have to open a second program to play your computer games on, it's hard for me to sympathize as we are talking an extra two or three clicks of the mouse button… I think most PC gamers will survive for the sake of playing Borderlands 3.

                • Completely agree that the Epic launcher needs a lot more work, but Steam wasn't built in a day… oh look another steam summer sale mechanic that nobody understands!

                I should mention that my steam account is currently sitting on 1,171 games installed currently in case anyone thinks I am not a Valve fan because I am, but I enjoy bringing some additional thought to the topic at hand.

      Yes, they are trying to become a serious competitor to the de facto monopolist Steam.
      They are developing their service and within 12-15 months will have the same features Steam needed 5 years to implement.

          That’s my main issue with Epic. The store itself looks beautiful but with all the money they are throwing around, surely they can use that money to add better store features instead.

Like nobody would be cool with a TV that didn't have colour support, just because "we're new and other companies took many years to bring these features out and we promise to patch it in a year after launch". They're releasing a storefront that is competing with Steam, GoG, uPlay, Origin, etc in 2019, not Steam in 2003.

      Presumably, being an Ubisoft game, For Honour is microtransaction laden garbage which means it makes you have a bad experience so they can "fix it" by nickel and diming you. Also, it will be different but somehow the same as every other Ubisoft game in the last decade.

      I suppose the real idiots are the ones that paid full price for a product that features making the game crap until you get nickel and dimed to "fix" it.

    For Honor beta was quite fun and i've played it at a mates on ps4 since, presumed the PC community would be dead by now but this might revive it for at least a time, not a bad game to spend a few days playing but gets boring pretty quickly

    I currently play for honor every day. Dominion mode (4 vs 4) is the most popular and has a fair amount of players. It has solid fighting mechanics, awesome graphics and rewards playing smart. "Button mashers" get destroyed in this game. You read your opponent correctly or you eat a heavy attack to the face and lose your head. So satisfying.

      For me, there’s no hate but it doesn’t mean I don’t see the problems with the store.

      Best comparison would be Nintendo switch expect Nintendo make their own exclusives while Epic just buys them now.

      So what I mean is the Nintendo switch has the most underwhelming features of the current consoles. Games have no achievement, you have to pay for online services that doesn’t offer much but is needed for online play and cloud game saves. People complain but it’s still a good portable console and has a large range of good exclusive games.

      That’s basically Epic Games Store. Used to be a platform just for Epic Games such as Fortnite, Paragon, Unreal Tournament etc. They then tried turning it into a major competing storefront in an already large market (uPlay, origin, steam, battle.net, gog etc.). Before they even had the basic store features that most platforms now have such as multiple payment options and regional pricing, they started paying publishers to sign exclusive deals to only distribute their game on the Epic Games Store.

      insert costumer rage here Following that, there is tons of further complaints such as security breaches or Tencent (Chinese company) owning ~40% of the company.

      The main thing that made people hate them was their exclusivity deals. Making metro exodus & borderlands 3 etc exclusive to the store (even if temporarily) was seen as a dog move since the app itself is severely inferior and underdeveloped compared to steam.

        What do you expect? Steam has been out since 2003. Over a decade of collecting the whole market. Now some competition comes in, giving everyone free games, yet people so passionately hate it. Steam have had exclusives for ever right? How about the huge Fortnite competition Epic just threw? When has Steam done anything remotely close to that kind of prize pool? Never. Epic is doing big things for gaming. Steam has developed nothing but microtransactions for years now

    This is For Honor standard edition. A Ubisoft account is needed to claim For Honor. Since this is a Ubisaoft published game. A linked Ubisoft account is required if you haven;t already done so. SInce EpicGames is now offering games published by other third parties.

    The starter edition of this game was previously offered as a free giveaway by Steam and Ubisoft. From what I've read. If you already have For Honor in your Ubisoft account it will add another copy of For Honor in your Ubisoft Launcher for the standard edition.

    Alan Wake is one of the most special gaming memories i have, i often think of it, the atmosphere in that game has rarely been matched before or after, could not recommend it more highly!
    And it's still a beautiful looking/sounding game all these years later.

      It's also one of those games where the physics is real enough to be fun but broken enough to mess around with. If you stand on a wheelbarrow or hand-trolley in just the right way, they act like self-propelled skateboards.
