Good point . I won’t NEED to spend anything beyond $50 for a rice cooker , unless you run a food business that needs large commercial rice cooker thats worth $300-$400 .

      • +4

These 🐅 aren't commercial cookers. Commercial cookers like commercial coffee machines costs $1000s.

        • -1

JNO-B360 for $559 Claims to be a commercial cooker

The same way people justify a $$$+ espresso machine. You want convenience and top quality results every day and every time, you pay top dollars.

      • -4

People should stop buying those crappy Xiaomi phones then.

    • +11

Some people eat rice 5+ times a week and it creates a much better product than a cheap cooker and takes all the guess work out of it, giving you a perfect result every time. It can be justified if you use it enough.

      • -5

Eating rice 5+ times a week? That's a ridiculous lack of imagination when it comes to cooking.

        • +2

Rice is staple for 3b people. Drop into any SEA restaurant and one may find that rice is served with 30 - 50 different dishes.

          • -2

@whooah1979: Sounds boring. Why not add pasta or potatoes instead. They are superior options.

            • @Icecold5000: That's your opinion. Maybe just speak for yourself. It's may sound boring to you but not to billions of others. Likewise, pasta & potato just sounds even more boring.
              Each to there own.

@Nivlac: Asians might also benefit from a western diet which would result less weedy physiques.

Properly made rice isn't a 15min dish in a microwave. It's should be slow cooked for 45min to 90min in pressure rice cooker.

I have never tried Tiger, but I had a lower range Zozuroshi rice cooker (still more expensive than most other brand), the rice just taste better than all other brands i have tried. It may not worth $200-$500 for some people though, Just like difference brand of wine, steak, milk etc.

      • Lol, I’m using one of these $450 range Tiger rice cooker. Very happy with it. BUT I’m more impressive when I saw those top range cost $1000 rice cooker made in Japan by the Tiger/ Panasonic/ Z brand. I will upgrade one day when I can afford. =D

Hahaha, it’s like why the lady needs to buy a LV or Chanel handbags, a $10 KMart handbag will do the job.

    • +5

bruh, you just posted in a thread about buying a $700 coffeee machine.

    • +1

How does anyone justify a $300 set of headphones? Or a $350 set of headphones? Or a $700 coffee machine? Or a $1,000 phone? Or a $2,000 television?

The common thread between all of these items is that you have personally upvoted them in the last three months, without ever feeling the need to make a snide comment about how stupid the deal is.

These tiresome comments pop up in every rice cooker thread and I just don't see why it is so difficult to understand. It shouldn't be difficult to understand that a high quality rice cooker would be useful and worthwhile for, say, a family that appreciates rice and eats it regularly, in the same way that a high quality set of headphones would be useful and worthwhile for an audiophile.

      • Who pays $300 for headphones? That’s crazy.

A >$700 bean to cup and >$1000 smartphone are acceptable. $2000 for a tv or $300 for headphones not so much.

  • This might be just as good Buffalo IH Stainless Steel Smart Cooker (10 cups) - PRE-ORDER $469.00 $349.00

I don't know anything about the brand but, I don't think it is Korean or Japanese if that matters.

$20 Kmart rice cooker is fine.

    • +7

So is a dollar coffee at 7 eleven.

    • It depends how much you enjoy & how often you have rice as a staple meal. Saying a cheap cooker is enough and may apply to you, although you sound ignorant. But certainly not to many others that depend every other day on a proper cooker albeit more expensive.

      • -2

I asked the same question from Indian/Sri Lankan/Japanese/Vietnamese whom which eat rice three times a day, response was. You nuts ? Unless you cashed up.

        • +1

Maybe they've not had proper cooked rice yet? Maybe they prefer mash potatoes or noodles? Or maybe, they just aren't cashed up because they spend their money on passing fads.

Either way, cheap stuff is cheap stuff. Quality does come with a reasonable price tag.. (unless Apple products)

          • -3

@Nivlac: Maybe. But I aren't blowing $300+ on rice cooker just to find that out. Not value for money. But pls let me know any restaurant that use so I can give it a crack.

            • @boomramada: Understandable. Wish I can tell you where exactly. But I don't eat out almost at all.. Well except for KFC or Hungry Jack's once a blue moon.

        • as a chinese who eat rice every single day.
Do yourself a favor, don't buy the $30 crap, the rice will be dry & hard, will be a nightmare to clean up after as well.
But 300-500 for a rice cooker is a waste of money in my opinion.
My own rice cooker is a well known chinese brand around $100-$150, I think that's the sweet spot in terms of cost.
It will do a similar job to what the japenese brand will do.

        • Obviously, you haven't met an Italian buying dollar coffee from 7-eleven.

  • A high-quality rice cooker can turn cheap, low-quality rice into tasty cooked rice

  • I love my rice

  • +1

    Makes fantastic rice - worth

  • -1

I love my rice and I definitely wouldn't pay that. Even if your cashed up its just a rice cooker and definitely not worth paying that.

    • Zero logic provided.

I used cuckoo last 10 years, and has a Sensor issue in lid. I bought tiger rice cooker in costco and straight refund after first cook. It doesn’t have good air pressure like cuckoo. Choose cuckoo if you want to eat better rice

  • +5

Anyone who spends MORE money on <insert product> than I do is a pretentious (profanity) with more money than sense who is easily fooled by branding and baseless hype. How on earth can anyone possibly justify spending this much!!!?

But anyone who spends LESS money than me on <insert product> is a cheapskate loser who can’t afford or recognise quality. What sort of idiot thinks you can get a decent <insert product> for peanuts?

On the other hand, anyone who spends THE EXACT SAME as me on <insert product> has both the good taste to recognise that you have to pay for quality AND the financial savvy to get it for a decent price.

    Wine, cars, phones, rice-cookers….

  • What's the main difference between the models? Just how much rice they cook?
