I noticed the Woolworths Caltex ones are still 5%

Aren't these delivered as general wish gift cards too? That can then be used at woolies…

Same for Big W too I guess.

    • +4

why buy from Suncorp when cashrewards offer 5% anyway?

      • +12

Suncorp is instant. I use WISH eGift cards for fuel and I literally buy the eGift card from the Suncorp app while I'm walking from my car to the petrol station attendant.

Or sometimes while in the supermarket I'll realise while I've got a trolley full of groceries that I don't have enough eGift cards to cover the total. Receiving eGift cards instantly has saved me.

        • +2

          Being instant is great.

Not all cards are instant though. One exception I found is Ticketek, there is explicit warning of up to 72 hours delay.

        • FWIW, I just purchased a Wish card via CR and it came instantly. I just added to the WW Money app.

Quite happy with that - Coles doesn't have this facility which is a pain!

          • @Jacku:

I just purchased a Wish card via CR and it came instantly

Is that a new thing? I used to buy my WISH eGift cards from CR up until a few months ago and it always took 3-24 hours to arrive. Maybe CR have upped their game?

            • @tomclancy: The cards come direct from Woolies so can't really blame CR for that. Having said that definitely much quicker in the last few months, Usually 10 to 20 mins for me.

        • +1

suncorp buy the cards in a couple days in advance and them issue them when you buy them. if you order via woolworths/coles then there is a delay.

      • i dont think cash rewards offer 5% coles

wondering if anyone know anywhere good to still get the 5% coles?

        • AGL rewards

        • nib used to offer 5% via direct credit but now they only accept credit card which incurs a 1% fee. so i'm getting mine via agl at the moment

      • Also because Woolies has block some customers from buying their giftcards directly. So CR fails. I've asked woolies to fix it many times for over 2 years and they ignore my requests. Very frustrating little witches.

        • What if you use Shopback instead - will that work because you could be considered a different customer? Also, just curious, why is Woolies blocking customers? Sounds strange to turn down business.

    • So anyone bought a Woolies Caltex or Big W to see if they are still Wish?

      • +6

Confirmed working. I tested with $5 egift card for BigW and used it towards a Dan Murphy's purchase

      • Also confirmed working as of 25/09. Just bought a $100 Big W card to get on the 1/2 price Vitasoy special. 36 cartons each of almond and oat milks lol

  • I just buy one on Monday with 5% discount, they never warn people

  • stupid suncorp

  • +1

Sad day, I liked the fact they accepted CC payments as opposed to bank transfer like AGL rewards.

    • whats wrong with Btransfe?

      • You do not get points.

  • +1

Fortunately I can still get Coles 5% via HCF rewards (health insurance)

    • HCF got Cc fees

    • How? Have they fixed hcf rewards website now?

  • My corporate portal is still 5% :) Though they're probably going to ditch it altogether I suspect.

  • +1

Big W are still at 5% discount - they are just wish gift cards.

For coles gift cards I will now switch to AGL rewards and use bank transfer to pay.

    • I purchased a Woolworths gift card 3 days ago (was still 5% discount) - based on terms and conditions I couldn't verify that this was a wish gift card. I emailed Suncorp support. They said that the card can only be used at Woolworths and they are not offering Wish gift cards. I suspect Big W could be in the same boat - be careful before purchasing these.
This might be a very recent change with Suncorp.

      • Some goose voted this down. (guess they assumed that what was true in the past will always be true in the future)

You maybe right and its worth being careful.

My plan will be when I next buy, to buy just a small denomination giftcard.

They may have changed at the same time the 4% discount has been added. Could be that Woolies and Coles are now trying to pair back the discounts as these have become more popular.

Apart from the discount, Wishcards were better as they gave you more outlets to use the card in, rather than having multiple cards for different stores like the Coles group ecards.

That will probably be more of an issue than the 4% discount rate.

at present cashrewards still links to Woolworths gift cards and offers 5% off Wishcards and that means you can use credit card. Just takes longer than Suncorp

        • +1

When you buy a small denomination giftcard, let us know if it is a wish card.
I don't shop enough at other stores often enough to tell the difference.

      • I thought they always maintained the were for Woolies only, just that they were really Wish cards.

I guess the thing to watch out for is that, assuming they have prepurchased these cards given they are supplied instantly, even if we get one that's Wish today, it could be old stock and tomorrow it is a store specific one.

        • Here are some specific quotes from Suncorp support:

"Please note that Woolworths eGift cards are not WISH Gift cards and can only be used at participating stores. Furthermore, we do not offer WISH eGift cards on the platform."
"Upon further investigation I can also confirm that the Woolworths eGift card can only be used at Woolworths."

Perhaps they don't know what they are talking about, but I'd still be careful.

  • +1

Competitors will probably do the same. RACQ now 4% as well.

  • +1

Haven't bought any before but pretty sure JB Hifi used to be 6% vs 5% it is now too.

  • This is bad, I signed up back in April and was 5%!

Prior to this, I drive further to a Woolworths… I guess I have to do the same again as CR still on 5% on Wish cards.

  • just noticed this today. pity, cause they used to arrive quickly. i will buy elsewhere now

  • There is a maximum limit of $500 coles gc order per month for AGL.
It is $500 per week limit for Suncorp.

    • i don't think that is correct. i've done more than that in a single order

      • i stand corrected. you are right. that is not good

  • +4

BigW gift cards are still 5% and work like a WISH card. Just tested against a Dan's order

    • It doesn't make sense for BigW gift cards to have larger discount than the Woolworths gift cards UNLESS they believe that they are actually selling BigW gift cards, not Wish gift cards.

Either they are transitioning away from the Wish gift cards (as bamzero mentioned in the post above) or someone (Suncorp or Woolworths) is making a mistake.

More annoyingly, it seems that Coles has updated its systems so that you can no longer use multiple egift cards in one transaction when purchasing a physical gift card.

Example. Coles $100 mastercard, cost $105. You could proceed with egift card payment, scan a $100 egift card, and it will decline as insufficient funds, but then let you proceed with the full remaining balance ($100 in example), and then pay with a credit card for the remaining $5.

Since last week, doing the above, you are not able to proceed after the decline for insufficient funds. Tells you to select another payment method. Select split payment and it throws a tanty (same as before).

This is only the case if buying gift cards. For normal grocery shopping, still works as before.

At least they haven't gone the extra step and completely banned gift card purchases using egift cards, like Woolworths has.

    • I think they have. Tried to buy the Coles Mastercard yesterday told cannot use Flybuys money, Coles Myer physical gift card or Coles eGift cards by supervisor where they sell cigarettes. I have had success before just going through regular register with a young person maybe not fully trained.

Never fear, I still had no troubles buying a $250 vanilla VISA and $200 VISA1 card (to keep total below $500),using a $500 Coles egift card. At self service. I did this 3 times last week.

        • But there is an activation fee for vanilla Visa and Visa1. Was there some sort of promotion or flybuys bonus on them to make it worth?

          • @Mad Max: Yes but those activation fees are more than offset by 4% discount.

            • @endolphin: Oh ok. Do you know what is the maximum value you can load on either of them? Is the activation fee the same on vanilla Visa and Visa1?

              • @Mad Max: Both are set value.

                Vanilla max value $250 + $7.5 fee
Only One max value $200 + $7.95 fee

Vanilla is definitely the preferred one for less fee and easy balance inquiry. Downside is monthly fee incurred after 6 months of activation.

  • As well you cant buy Coles Express egift cards anymore

    • +1

You can use flybuys dollars and Coles Myer group cards in Coles Express.

      • Problem is the Coles express gift card is no longer avaliable and you say you can use other gift card to pay, completely not answering the question

        • True but good to know so that you can manage it rather than using them indiscriminately and not having credit for the thing you want to purchase.

What's with "purple monkey dish washer"?

Confirming 5% BigW $100 eGift Card via Suncorp shows as WISH eGift Card when I load it in Woolworths Money app.

Thanks to commenters above - just confirming it’s still working.

  • +2

I used Dan's 5% E-gift card at woolies today with no issues - via Suncorp. it added in the app as a wish card too

  • Are the Coles egiftcards still available in Suncorp Benefits? They do not show coles in their homepage, but I cannot login. Just checking before opening an account to get the benefits

    • +1

Yes they are. I just checked in Suncorp App for you and they still sell Coles eGift cards for 4% discount

      • +1

Thanks mate. I will get the Suncorp account then. Cheers

  • +4

Coles eGift cards are currently unavailable.
But we can still help you save.

Thanks for using Suncorp Benefits – we hope the savings you’ve made so far have helped you stretch your budget further.

Unfortunately, due to supply issues, Coles eGift cards will no longer be available to purchase from Suncorp Benefits from 31 March 2020*. But rest assured you can still use any Coles eGift cards you have already purchased.

    • +2

Dammit! Would have been nice to get some warning at least.

      Thanks for the update Neoika

    • +2

I don’t understand the excuse they use. Why would there be supply issue with e gift card? It is not like they need to physically manufacture anything

      • That was exactly my thinking. The excuse is a little lame.

There was no indication if this is a permanent removal of the Coles eGift cards or just a temporary removal due to "supply issues".

    • Also the Woolies cards are back to 5% at the moment (not that it really matters, with the big W etc being 5% the whole time)

  • any other option to get coles discount gc?

    • +1

Just ordered some thru ambassador card, via union membership…would expect these to be cut soon as well.
No half price specials, no flybuy offers, no gift card discounts = paying 75% more for groceries…..!

Back to Woolies TAS for all shopping once these run out.

      • I also noticed that fruit and vegetables prices were much lower in Woolworths compared to Coles. Some prices more than double! Is Coles profiteering?

        • Their profits will be up for sure but not profiteering in that sense. Similar prices here between the 2….hardly anything on sale….capsicums were $12.90kg, never seen them above $9.90 any season.

  • I bought tomatoes in Woolworths for about $4/kg. They were about $8/kg in Coles.
Most in season fruit about $4/kg in Woolworths but $6/Kg in Coles.
No meet specials in Coles …none!
Some specials still available in Woolworths.
Can others confirm if it is Australia wide?

This together with the withdrawal of discounted eGift Cards is enough for me to start shopping at Woolworths instead of Coles.
They are already making HUGE unexpected profits due to the incredible demand. Why remove the small savings that was available through egift cards? This is profiteering!

    • Wesfarmers did just sell off a bunch of Coles stock…
