Or you could buy a regular drive and spend 30 seconds formatting it to HFS and not get ripped off.

Correct me if im wrong, but this seems akin to comparing apples with pears. Similar, but not the same.

The fact is, many people are in the market for this particular Western Digital hard drive as it receives very good reviews, is plug-and-play for anyone with Mac and is known to be very stable and looks nice and sleek.

This is a very competitive price for said people. A Neg vote is perhaps a tad unfair?

Again, feel free to correct me if you think i'm wrong.

      • People mainly buy this to suit the style of their macbook.
In fact hard drives are hard drive, there isn't much difference apart from the formatting.

Its a hard drive in a case, it will work with a PC or a mac, same goes for the recent $99 drives sold the only difference is in the formating as mentioned which a Mac will prompt to be done when the $99 drives are plugged in, save $15 and buy a $99 drive or if you want a pretty silver box buy this one. I wouldnt say its ripping people off, its more creative marketing by Western Digital to sell something for more to buyers that think buying Mac means always needing to pay more.

      • Any drive is 'Plug and Play' for Mac. A neg vote warns less technologically-aware customers that there are better deals out there.

The fact that you put "for Mac" in the title irks me, frankly.

    • The cheapest Western Digital 1TB My Passport on staticeice is $110.00 and the next cheapest is $124.00

Neither of those are the Mac version.
For $4 more you can have one that matches your Mac and is ready to use straight away.

      • And you'll receive a free case to protect it in transport.

      • http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47441 $98 instock at Officeworks, whilst its not a passport drive it is an elements drive, its the same form factor. It also comes with software to encrypt and protect drives if you want to use it on a PC, e.g partition half the drive windows and half mac and encrypt the PC side of things, or just format tht entire drive fat32 and the mac and PC can see and write to both as long as the files are under 4 gig in size

  • The postage kills the deal. If was free on the other hand it would be a nice deal

    • Unforunately we can't give free shipping, but any additional units will be shipped for free. Call us on 1300 886 962 if you are after more than 1 and we will include free shipping on the extra items (to the same address).

I think in general any external HD claiming to be "for Mac" should have thunderbolt compatability.

      Or FW800.

totally agree with you and LockieF

  • Would have bought it if it had free shipping, definitely not buying it now, shipping killed it
