I have these speakers. Good balanced sound. Nice upgrade from my TV's speakers.

The remote is pretty flaky (pressing the buttons doesn't always work, and I'm pretty certain this will be the first thing to break in the whole system). It's hard to tell what mode you're in (bluetooth, aux, optical etc) because the indicator light is on the side where the control knobs are located.

    Overall, good value speakers.

    • +1

Ive owned the wood finish model of these speakers and share your sentiments XD

Recently had some issues with the remote; so checking if its the CR2025 button battery thats gone flat and hopefully the remote hasnt failed

      • +1

I suspect that is the case with mine, but haven't gotten around to checking.

Whatever you do….make sure you put the battery thing back in the right way. I put it in upside down the other day and it got jammed real bad. I had to get a bit of metal to pry up the case a little to get it out again.

        • yes… I jammed it this morning finding out what battery it was and managed to pry it back out

          • @3252900sl: CR2025. I bought some from k-mart on the weekend. It seems to have resolved the "buttons don't always work" issue.

        • Sorry but I laughed

    • +1

@damfrog Are you using them via bluetooth or optical? Do they turn on / off when receiving signal form the TV?

      • +2

I'm using an optical cable connection. They don't turn off, as in the status light is still on, but I do hear an audible pop after about a minute. I'm assuming it's because of the TV shutting down the audio signal.

    • Ive never has any issues with my remote, maybe yours is faulty?

    • remote works fine, the main thing is you need to point it at the IR receiver on the right (side) speaker, with the cover off you can see it (2cm black circle) at the top left corner

      • Thanks. I suspect it could be the battery going flat as @3252900sl mentioned above. Just haven't gotten around to getting a replacement to check. It would be good if there were some feedback from the speakers to tell you it received the remote's command. Beep, beep, beep, beep. My experience with other remotes of this kind is that they will break at some point.

    • I have these speakers.

An issue I have with my current speakers is that even if nothing is played there is a very quiet hissing sound which annoys me a bit especially during the night when I try to sleep. Can you confirm if these do the same thing? I am looking for something that's absolutely silent when nothing is played without having to turn the power off. Thanks.

      • Out of curiousity, what are your current speakers?

        • Logitech Z213.

          • @Travis J: All my logitech speakers where it has a seperate sub, instead of a 'box speaker all in one' do this too.

  • +3

Absolute bargain at this price! Great sound, plenty of inputs and enough bass for enjoyable listening.

Audio quality over bluetooth is average - if you're using these as PC/Laptop speakers, get a cheapy USB to Optical (SPDIF) adapter and they'll really shine! I bought one of these for my set.

    • An I right that usb-spdif should be perfect regardless of equipment as it's all digital? I.e a cheapie like this is all you need?

      • +1

Yep, won't sound any different if you spend $10 or $100+.

        • +6

          Clearly never used Monster cables…

Monster cables will enhance your audio experience with 24k gold connectors and oxygen-free wiring. It'll also save your marriage and improve libidos. Some even say it cures cancer.

          • @Munki: Gold plated and oxygen-free fibre optic connectors?!!! Put me down for 100 please <3

          • @Munki: I swear it's springfields only choice, throw up your hands and raise your voice!"

    • Are these the same speakers, Edifier R1280DB Studio Bookshelf Bluetooth Speaker?

      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B01NCTNZRC/ref=ox_sc_ac…

because they are $129 instead of $150 and free shipping.

I do note, in the description just under the title it mentions optical audio input, but in the feild tables of the product (near bottom of page) it lists only bluetooth and AUX.

Cos if its the same set, means you can already get them for an extra $20 after this sale has ended

      • +1

Yes it is the same model. $129 is always standard price for one of the colours. Usually it’s grey which is cheaper, but they switch them around once in a while.

  • Bought from Kogan at Christmas. Highly recommend

  • Awesome speakers, exactly what i wanted for my TV when i bought mine.

  • In terms of sound quality this or Sonos One?

  • Very good speakers

  • +1

    Lightning Deal 100% Claimed - it’s over.

    • On no! Feels like missed one million

    • Damn that was quick! Thoughts on these for $150?

Edit: Looks like you can get the R1700BT for around $150.

      • R1700BT is closer to $130 in recent deals.
It is worth noting R1700BT has only Bluetooth and RCA inputs, while R1280DB has BT, RCA, and digital optical & coaxial inputs.

  • How about these with a Chromecast audio?

    • Yeah that should work quite, you'd need an adapter for it though

      • Wut? Why would you need an adapter?

        • You're right, I'm quite wrong about the adapter, I was under the assumption that chromecast audio was a 3.5mm male tail, not a female port

      • Doesn't this come with a 3.5mm to line input cable? I think that's all you'd need.

    • Chromecast audio has a Mini Toslink Digital output inside the 3.5mm port (Mini Toslink is similar size & shape as 3.5mm).
You can get a Mini Toslink to Toslink cable and connect Chromecast to digital input of Edifier R1280DB.

A lot of people have commented on R1280DB the digital optical input sounds better than analog RCA input.

  • How are these for monitoring? Are they fairly neutral or have some colouring? Anyone use them in a studio setup?

    • Default sound of R1280DB is coloured, you can adjust it with tone controls (treble / bass) to make it sort of neutral.
The R1280DB is a consumer product and therefore sounds that way, while studio-monitors are professional gear which will offer you proper neutral and transparent sound for mixing etc.

  • Waitlist is available.
Not sure exactly how that works though, joined :)

    • How do you get on the wait list?

      • +1

Click on the Join Waitlist button, have to be logged in and a prime member I think.
The Brown ones are going on sale, tomorrow 0900 I think, should be the same deal.

  • I was lucky that I managed to get a pair to be delivered next Wednesday.

  • I don't understand these. Why not go surround sound for TV and why not headphones for PC?

    • +2

Idk why the downvote spam, it's a good question

Personally music at my home desk without having to wear headphones is nice, I use my headphones when others are around or need more precise sound like for gaming,

TV's I don't have enough free spots in my bedroom for a dedicated 5.1, 2 bookshelf speakers fit nicely on my stand

      • lol. Sometimes when you start getting downvoted, others follow. Thanks for explaining!

    • +2

      I'll weigh in too…

if your budget for speakers for your TV is only $109 you can't really beat something like this. A decent 5.1 setup (don't bother with the tiny satellite systems) plus the receiver to go with it is $$$. On top of that, unless you're keen enough or lucky enough to have a dedicated gone cinema space it's hard to setup/place a 5.1 system to get the full value out of it.

headphones is more to do with personal preference, but ideally you'd have both IMO. Personally I move around too much and generally don't like being isolated from my surroundings for extended periods of time (unless I'm going for that deliberately lol) so I tend to use my speakers waaay more often than my pairs of headphones. Plus resale value.

ultimately it's about versatility. 2.0 speakers (particularly passive ones, which these are not) are about as versatile as it gets as far as audio is concerned. I have one set I've had for years that started out connected to my TV, then got moved to my computer desk, and now live in my bedroom, moving as they've made way for upgrades.

      • You have convinced me, I will not eat out with wifey for 2 times this week and buy it :)

No APTX Bluetooth. These will sound rubbish compared to a decent Bluetooth speaker

    • They sound fine

  • +2

Brown one coming up Friday morning 9am for Prime https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01NCTNZRC/ (from lightning deals page)

    • Thank you for sharing in advance

  • +1

Dunno how to make a new post but the brown ones are currently in the lightning deal now. $109

  • Thank you for sharing the love

  • So who got this in the end? I have found the bass a little underwhelming at low volumes. Looks like you really need to crank it up to get the full sound range.

Not really an ideal TV speaker then, since you don't want to always be watching TV at "cinematic" level volumes all the time.

Tips from anyone else? Feel the same?
