Intex Challenger Inflatable Kayak: Single (From $99) or Double (From $149)

Some of the youtube reviews are good

Anyone have first hand experience how these are and how likely they topple over?

Be warned, these are not good for smoking buckets in, nor playing darts.

    • people with inflatable boats shouldn't throw darts

  • Seems good

  • Bought one. Thanks.

  • Nothing about dimensions or weight when deflated

    • +1

Inflatable’s a cool feature if you have limited space to transport it, but a convenient transport size depends on what that deflated dimensions might be as to whether it’s easily adaptable to available space.

      Why neg a reasonable consideration?

    • I'm pretty sure it weighs the same when deflated ;-)

  • You will also need a personal flotation device when using this. It is mandatory in Australia

    • You mean a life jacket?

    • +3

It's only mandatory in certain situations and those situations vary by state. For example, here in WA there's no requirement (though the relevant authority does recommend wearing one) for "paddlecraft". When you're crossing a "designated coastal bar" Queensland says you must wear one and NSW says you don't. In summary, it's a bit of a mish-mash but there's definitely no across the board mandate to wear one.

A reasonable summary of the situation around the country is here https://www.clubmarine.com.au/exploreboating/articles/25-5-D…

There is a 3 person boat also on Groupon for $99

    • Got a link? I can't find it.

      Ignore that. Found it.

  • It's in a different price bracket (by a little bit),
but people who are interested in this (or the 3 person boat)
might want to checkout the Bestway Hydro-force Marine Pro.

Can be had for ~$260 delivered on ebay. Located in Australia too.

Why you'd want to spend a bit extra: "3-ply reinforced vinyl". More durable than these.

Also ability to add an outboard motor (additional hardware required) in the future, if that is your fancy.

this normally sells in BCF for $200, so for 100 it's quite cheap
i think it's a good deal for those pppl who have never kayak before and want to try it out.

also with life jackets etc, there are specific rules but that been said, you'd be pretty stupid to go without one- you never know when conditions can change or you may freeze up when you fall and hit the cold water or your friends decide to go further exploring and you join them but forget you're not wearing a life jacket… So don't be an idiot and risk other ppl and wear one.
