Acer Aspire D257 - Intel Atom N570 Dual Core 1.66GHz for $235.0 (or $236.55)

111

Hi Guys,
I went a bit more in to hunting after seeing this posting by tio (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47809)and found an even better deal from retravision.

http://www.retravision.com.au/products/4/Acer/LUSFS0D005/Ace…

in the website it's saying the price is $249.00 but has a lable just below to say "SAVE MORE IN STORE".

Called 2 stores in NSW, Eastwood guy wasnt very nice and said there is no "SAVE MORE IN STORE" but was willing to sell for $249.00. Then I called the Rozelle store and the person answered the phone first said it was $249.00 but when I mention what was said in the website he was happy (no fuss) to bring it down to $235.00.

Unfortunate for him travelling to Rozelle wasnt very convienient for me today so went to Officeworks and after wasting 1Hr they matched the price + 5% and bought it for $236.55 - it was a still a good deal as I saved the bus fare ;)

What I got from Officeworks is ..
http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…

even though this is the same product I think this is not a duplicate of tio's post as the deal is from Retravision (not PowerBuys as his one).

Edit : Officeworks receipt :

"Process" of finding $249.00 price..
1. go to http://www.retravision.com.au
2. Find the RED lable saying "No Store Selected" on to the right of the screen.
3. about 3 inches below the lable there is a text box and a button "PostCode"
4. Please enter your post code in to the text box and click on the "postcode" button. (I entered 2000)
5. it will show a pop up screen with all their branches.
6. Select a branch. This will close the popup and set that branch as your "store"
7. Now go and find the Laptop..and you should see the 249.00 (if you still cant try using postcode 2000 and store in Rozelle. it still shows 249.00 to me..

  • Didn't say how much on their site? just CAll $$$$

    • You have to select a Store to see the price I think

  • Would you mind posting up your receipt from OW?

  • Hey Fox, I dont have a scanner but will try to get it done as soon as possible..

    • Just take a pic with your phone, that's easier than scanning (assuming you have a phone that was made in the last 5 years).

    • If you have a good smart phone you can take a pic of it and post that.

  • good idea, will do :)

Is it just me who's sick of all the Officeworks price matches passing as "deals"?

    • This comment should be placed in the forums. The negative should apply to the bargain not the extra 5% you may get off at Officeworks. Please use the comments section appropriately.

      • The "bargain" being posted here is OFficeworks price matching which has been posted countless times before.

"went to Officeworks and after wasting 1Hr they matched the price + 5% and bought it for $236.55"
How does having to stuff around hassling the store for an hour equal a bargain?

        • BS!

I only explained what I did! it's up to each individual to do what they want.
IF you read the post, you would see that RetraVision price is $235.00 and OfficeWorks price is $236.55. Are you still saying OfficeWorks one is the bargain?

        • I suggest you read the posts more carefully before frothing at the mouth. Additionally you may find you have to "bargain" harder to get a deal from a dealer that offers blanket discounts, quite often you have to prove the item is offered, in stock and in certain cases is local.

On the website it says 399 with a line through and then ask for a better price or whatever. Where is the 249 coming from?
and the OW website says its windows7/android dualboot. How's that? any good?

    • errr.. RetraVision Website? :)

no idea what 399 is though :)

Anyway since many people have trouble with it I'll update the "process" of getting 249 in the body of the post as well.. :)

      • yeah sorry retravision website. says it's $399, three hundred and ninety nine dollars.

Okay, seems like only a few stores have it at the price you said. Or maybe it's statewide? None of the stores local to me in W.A. have that price.

        • updated the post..

Sorry to hear about the WA stores not having the offer.. maybe you can email them and check? I checked a few NSW stores and they all had so possible to be NSW only even though there is no such mention I could find..

For those wondering where the Retravision price is coming from,I originally saw their ad on Notebook Hunter.com:
      http://apcmag.com/notebookhunter/deals/acer-aod257-mighty-an…
Rang all the Brisbane stores though and not one knew what I was talking about though so I have no idea which Retravision store was doing this deal.More than a few promised to check the price & call me back, but didn't.They're all independantly franchised & lots of the Brisbane stores don't even stock pcs.Still, got the 6 cell version from OW for $233,so I'm happy.

      • haa haa :) OW is NSW it seems to have caught up with us OzBs!!! :D
Everytime I went to OW(not just one but atleast 3 different branches) for a price match they called the shop to verify what is already in their website!! :)

Thanks mate, good deal BUT you bought the 2 years EC Warranty for $89? facepalm

    • I know I know mate.. :D
but will be cancelling it within the next week.. :)

    • I don't know about the other poster, but at the OW shop in Adelaide St,the warranty was reduced to $46.Normally I'd pass if it were for me,but it's a present for my sister.Sure it's a cheap netbook, but as my sister is pretty hard going on her pcs(uses them all day, downloads stuff at night)and she's not very flush right now as she's trying to start a home business,it's still cheaper than another $233 in a yr's time.Total for me was $280 for the dual boot n570 one with the 250 hard drive & 6 cell. It's still cheaper than the $359-$399 it is at most other stores. So for an extra $46 dollars,it still means she has at least one pc that will cost nix to fix if it goes belly up in the next 3 yrs.Sure, tech will have moved on by then, but I still use a pc I bought in 2001 as a spare for the kids & to store media on.$46 is still cheaper than buying a new one & you're not forced to do so if it dies.

      • Thanks Ausdiva, I'll see if I could get it down to $49 and if that happens I will keep it, but $89 is way too much. I got it first 'cos I couldnt decide at that point to get or not to get as this wasnt for me either..:D

        • No worries, gamma.Apparently Netbooks are supposed to be lower warranty than full laptops.Your salesperson made the same mistake as the younger person at the till nearly did with me.When I bought mine, the middle-aged manager asked me if I wanted the warranty-and when I asked how much he said $46.For the extra coverage this seemed a pretty reasonable price to me.When he gave it to the junior sales clerk to put through the register, she added $89.As this was the not the price the older guy quoted,I baulked & got her to check with her boss, who confirmed it should be $46.So go back & tell them they made a mistake.

  • Pass by Thornleigh Retravision today but they said they don't do laptops. :(

    • yes I called them too :) They only sell Washing Machines and Fridges I think :D

Try Rozelle. East would also would do but wont go below (atleast didnt do) $249.

  • Walked into Officeworks, went to Special Orders counter, showed them the receipt, price matched, paid, done. No questions asked. Less than 15 minutes in store. Thanks for the receipt OP.

    • Woohoo! :) nice :)

    • which store did you go to? most of my OWs dont accept directly matching an invoice.

      • Was at the Fitzroy one. He asked me which store the price match was against, I said Retravision. But that was after he agreed to pricematch. Think it was for him to enter into his system. The receipt we have shows that the pricematch was still fresh (yesterday) so he didn't question it.

        • Cool, thanks for that, unfortunately Im over in Sydney. For my local OW's its not an issue of invoice freshness, more of verification. They want to all contact the physical store, speak to a sales rep, confirm stock, exact same item and lastly price - guess some people have come in and rorted them hard for them to be so pedantic :(

  • I signed up to Ozbargain just to say thanks for the tip gamma. I went to OW last night and got one, no questions asked (with the retravision website printout). Good deal IMO. Just a shame I need to sell the one I got from HN on Sat, single core, and so slow.

    • perfect! thanks for letting us know mate. Cheers

  • Ausdiva,
I cannot reply to your post as it seems we cannot have replies more than 4 levels deep.

What you said about the OW reps is quite interesting, how ever in my case the young bloke first said $89 and I asked him tonfirm which he did with his manager (duty?) who confirmed it is $89, so either Manager is trying recover the loss of $110 or he had no idea about the warranty prices either. In anycase I'm going to go back and check, so thank you very much for your input, really appreciate it. I think I'll goto the one close to my home and check about the warranty prices before going to the place where I bought it to.. :D

  • ccrap,
did you try the OW near Wynyard station on Clarence st? I bought from there..however not sure if they have stocks or not..But yes I agree, in Sydney OW people seems to be really really in to this verification of deals and it take ages, it took over 1Hr when I bought this!

    • Na, havent had time, EOFY craziness. will be going in tomorrow if I have a chance but not sure if I want to spend my lunch hour price matching - decisions, decisions!

  • Has anyone got the Acer d257 from Officeworks? I got one the otherday and am happy with it so far. The only question I have is whether it is dual core or not? It doesnt say anywhere that its dual core although it is the N570 Atom chip. Same product code as per OW website.

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…

For anyone that has purchased from OW, does it say on the computer or box anywhere that the N570 is a dual core processor or are all N570 chips dual core?

  • OW North Ryde refused to Price match :(
Anyway I don't really need one.

    • oh thats not very nice :(
      what was their excuse?

      • No stock at Retravision Eastwood.

        • did you call Retravision Rozelle? and also even when I called non of them had them in the shops but said they could get it from the warehouse. it was teh same when the OW guy called (he told me)

  • I just got one from OW Melbourne CBD QV pricematched to Retravision in Preston who had stock, so paid $236.55. Have got a copy of the pricematch they printed and my receipt if required by others (but let me know how to upload them if so)… thanks to OP

  • Thanks Gamma, walked into local Retravision on Thursday and asked what the better in store deal was and they offered $239. Bought at this price, and happy with the machine so far, although will upgrade the memory to 2GB to help with multitasking speed.

Has anyone checked whether this offer is still available? If it is, I will pick one up this weekend.

    • Hey Dan, this offer is still going, I picked up one today from Officeworks.

I showed them the OP's receipt, and they asked which store it was price matched to. I said Retravision, so they called and they apparently had none in stock, so they wouldn't honour the price-match. I had a backup plan though - a printout of the netbook from Powerbuys (http://www.powerbuys.com.au/acer-aspire-one-d257-netbook.htm…). The manager gave me some BS about how it had to be printed out today, instead of yesterday, so I used one of their demo computers to go online and show her the ad. She insisted their model was still different to powerbuy's, despite not providing any concrete proof.. so i persisted (throughout my lunch break!) and eventually she caved and I got it for $236.55.

Thanks for the heads up OP, you have saved me ~$125!!

Oh and after calling Retravision, they told me that Retravision hasn't carried any Acer laptops within the last 3 yrs. Bullshit i said, as they are advertising them. Don't fall for anything these salespeople try to tell you!

  • Should be, you need to find a retravision with stock and an officeworks with stock who'll price match it
