  • Can you get the free headset? Thanks

    • that was for preorder only, its released now, though amazon is still running it with theirs.

    • No

  • I'm finding it difficult to confirm whether this is dual SIM or not.

Under SIM details, it states "Single SIM & Hybrid SIM"

Does this mean it can support two SIM cards?

    • +2

From my understanding only the plus version has the hybrid sim tray that allows dual sims. Normal note 10 and the 5G version are single sim only.

    • +1

Yes, two SIM cards, or one SIM card and a MicroSD card. It could be phrased better: “First slot: SIM 1; Second slot: SIM 2 OR MicroSD card”.

    • +1

      DUAL SIM (HYBRID)4
Note10+ has dual SIM support, so you can have two different numbers on the same device - or insert a microSD card for even more storage.

      • -1

so every note 10plus is dual sim?

        • No, I think only the 256gb version of the Note10+ has dual sim.

    • +1

      5G model is single sim

Only non carrier models are duel sim.
If you buy from Telstra or Optus they are are single sim + micro sd. its stupid

      • On Note 10, they have used the double SIM tray length but the second area is just closed. Wonder why they excluded if the tray is the same length.

        • 5G note 10 model does not come in dual sim worldwide.Found this from online samsung rep.

          • @Javin: Yes. Its not. I have looked up on other country websites. They seem to provide just the very basic options in Australia including the colors!!!

    • +2

I received Note 10+ from Vodafone. Samsung confirmed, hybrid SIM is only for independent - non-cariers.
Should be Yes. No for Telstra, Optus, Vodafone…

  • +6

And yet Telstra and Vodafone will both charge you $1699 for the same device IF you also shell out for a phone plan for the life of the handset repayments. And I think we all know that the telcos pay less than full RRP.

  • Would Amazon give some credit for the people ordered at 1599?

    • +3

No, why would they? They don't have price guarantee

  • -1

I find Samsung noticeably slower than Huawei, also battery life much worse. Is it just my device defective?

    • +6

That's normal actually. Huawei has very aggressive cleanup agents that will close or hibernate apps more than Samsung. Hence better battery life.

      • +6

+1 for Samsung. Hate those aggressive hibernation of apps causing constant reload..

      • Yeah, I hate that, I wanna let some apps running in the background, but even when I change the settings for them, they are still hibernated. And Samsung is not slower than Huawei, it is actually faster. Kirin chips are not that good, compared to Snapdragon (or even Enxynos).

    • +3

You can reduce the time of your animations.

    • +4

Finding "Samsung" slower than "Huawei" is such a generic statement it's hard to even begin to answer.

Both make dozens of variants at a time and hundreds if we include models over the past few years.

      • S10 vs mate 20 pro. I think it's not much slower, but definitely a lot more battery life on Huawei.

        • The m20p has a giant battery.

        • Need to compare S10+ with Mate 20 Pro, Both models with highest. Battery size is similar, slightly smaller on S10+.

          • @KingJuf: It's not the size of the battery I think.

    • +2

Here's how to turn off the app battery optimisations in Huawei EMUI..
      https://www.androidpit.com/huawei-smartphones-disable-functi…

    • Huawei screen touch latency is the deal breaker for me. Compare moving pages up against Samsung or Apple, or just general scrolling

  • Hmm.. To claim price difference now with my credit card insurance or wait a bit longer for further price drops..

    • Quite the gamble 🎲

    • If you used a 28 degrees card to buy, you can lodge multiple claims.

      • Multiple claims for the same item?

        • +2

          Yes

        • +2

          Yes

      • Just to add to this, if you paid full RRP preorder and got the AKG headphones, you should now be able to make a price protection claim based on Samsung EPP price which is 20% off (EPP preorders did not include the AKG headphones but that doesn't matter now).

      • Does it have to be the same seller?

Also as it is the price after applying a coupon code, can also claim that?

        • Yeah I want to know aswell. I purchased my note10× through jbhifi.

Curious if I can price gurrantee

          • @letthiswork1: Depends on which card you have. The old Coles Account Cover Plus has to be the same retailer but lasts 24 months. The other one (ING or 28 degrees, can't remember) allows from any Australian retailer but only lasts 12 months.

            • @Menzoberranzan: Westpac Altitude black.. They dont really explain the price protection.. kind of annoying..

          • @letthiswork1: With 28 Degrees, it does not have to be the same seller.

Can be with anyone, even overseas sellers, even ebay.

I bought some SD cards from Joybuy, had 28D price match Amazon US and refund the difference. Bought 2 cards, got $62 back.

    • You can claim multiple times.

      Do it now.

      • Anyone know if you can do that with go mastercard?

      • Multiple times? How does that work?

        • +1

It remembers all the times you've claimed price protection, and you will be paid the last matched price minus the current lowest price.

e.g. Purchased for $1000. Found cheaper a month later for $800, got $200 back. Two months after that, found cheaper again for $600. Get another $200 back.

Nowawadays when buying tech, I always use 28D. Because all tech are expected to drop in price.

  • Note 10 or S10 guys? I know note 10 just came out, hence more features but no headphone jack kinda kills it for me.

    • It still comes with a headphone set that has usb c cable.

    • S10 has first generation under screen fingerprint reader which sucks a lot

      • The note 10+ version isn't any better. It's very slow and after I installed a screen protector it stopped working

        • Man I feel I might just return it without opening

        • +1

Did you buy a $1 screen protector off eBay?

          • @18: Nah a quality Loca glass screen protector.
            Perfect install and fit too.
            Cost about $8 off eBay.

            • @edrift: You got to buy the UV liquid screen protectors, otherwise it doesn't really work.

It sucks, thats the standard for all curved phones at this point.

              • @BarginGrabber: Yeah I did. Loca is the UV liquid glue that your pour on and cure with the UV light

            • @edrift: $8 screen protector and quality don't go together…

        • my note10+ fingerprint scanner is significantly faster and more reliable than my S10 scanner. you can make the sensitivity of the display higher in settings but glass screen protectors that's not the few to be recognised as working with the scanner (whitedome) - won't work.

        • The note 10 plus comes with a screen protector already on and a case!

  • I got my note 10+ via friend who works at samsung for half price ($850) but no free fancy headset. It comes with standard headset though.

    • +8

Does your friend want to hook up a few of you friendly fellow Ozbargainers too? :P

      • Apparently there's a quota per staff. I think that quota is two. If unlimited, he would just bulk buy and sell them off ebay!

    • Was gonna do same from a mate at Telstra but was only single sim :(

  • -1

The same model in Hong Kong using the Snapdragon 855 starts at $1489 AUD. Australia is getting shafted! Ebay plus with 15% $1289. For AUS model Gumtree get a plan upgrade dump I got an S10 Plus for $900 2 months after release.

    • +2

Well we get taxed 10% here, and Australia is a much bigger and sparsely populated country so moving things around is more expensive.

On the other hand, we have ozbargain.

    • IIRC foreign models do not have any Samsung warranty coverage if something goes wrong while in Australia. It has to be Australian bought.

    • Exynos version is always a better buy nowadays for Samsung. Especially with faster updates.

  • For those wondering this is NOT the 5G version, don’t care if 5G is worth it or not, just saying, this is not the 5G version

Also we get a bit of a discount on Samsung flagships compared to the states, doesn’t really matter, still very expensive

  • Is it the Snapdragon 855 version and is it dual sim?

    • AU Stock.

    • No snapdragon but yes hybrid dual sim

    • Dual SIM, Exynos - It's the AU model

  • If you are after note 10 then preferred to go for the 5G variant to be atleast few years of future proof.5G rollout will be in more areas by early next year.

    • +1

The current dedicated Qualcomm X50 5G modem chip is not great, going to consume more power and only support NSA mode.

When the 5G comes, Note 11 also comes in.

Apple doesn't even bother to use 5G this year.
They use a better 5G next year.

This reminds me of the day when HTC released the world first 4G LTE phone I think, which the battery can only last half day

      • +1

        and only support NSA mode.

Is that the mode with a backdoor for the US government to access your phone at any time and browse your nude pics?

        • +1

Good luck to the NSA workplace therapist due to all the extra work they are about to get if they go through any of my photos.

      • Apple doesn't even bother to use 5G this year.
They use a better 5G next year.

It's not Apple doesn't even bother. It's also cost and intel cannot match Qualcomm.

I am interested to find out whether Apple will go with all Qualcomm on 4G this year or still do the Qualcomm/Intel split (and in that case, will Apple purposely slowed down the Qualcomm one to match Intel again or Intel did at least catch up this year on 4G).

        • Don't they have a contract with Qualcomm now after the settlement? Intel pulled out after that.

    • Will take Telstra more than 2 years to roll out 5G to a higher % of the population areas. 5G will be my next phone after this I think. Chances are, amendments to 5G will happen before then that will give more capabilities and better time-slicing.

  • Price drop 20% after 1 day

    • +1

Maybe 40% in 1 month before the iPhone 11

      • Highly doubt it if previous releases are any indication. Maybe 25% or throw in another freebie through redemption.

    • That's why you're better off buying a demo.

    • +3

15% Price drop before release.. +Free headphones.
It usually indicates that the RRP is set too high by the marketers and needed adjustment if they wanted to move units. RRP has already been set, so the only thing to fix it is through rebates and freebies. Freebies are great because they often are inflated RRP as well and costs them very little (AKG is owned by Samsung).

  • I received my 5G note10 Plus in the day one it was launched, but I ain’t opening the box before it is proofed that 9825 has a batter battery life than sd855 version.

I will still return it if 9825 is the same crap as 9820

    • +1

I think SD855 version always have better battery life and performance.

      • +1

6% better gaming performance, but actually a bit slower on system /app responsiveness and executing speed

        • Is it? I've read more towards 10-15% gaming (especially on intense emulators like Dolphin/PPSSPP) and overall CPU is about 10% better still. Probably my only reason for wanting the SD given Dolphin running Wii on a phone is just… incredible.

          • @bchliu: SD855 is faster from what I saw (see my comment below). The main advantage of Exynos is that the bootloader can be unlocked (so rooting is easier). Apparently some SD855 version can, but due to USA version not able to do so, there is virtually no info on how to do it.

Photos, SD855 in some cases, produce sharper images/photos.

        • Snapdragon SD855 vs Exynos 9820:
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts6DWsktKxY

Snapdragon SD855 comes out on top.

As for SD855 vs 9825, I won't comment on it yet because the only test I've seen is too GPU heavy (which gives SD855 too much advantage). I want to see general app comparison.

    • Exynos 9825 (7 nm) - EMEA/LATAM

      Exynos 9820 (8 nm) - EMEA/LATAM

      Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon 855 (7 nm) - USA/China

9825 should have caught up now, but for the 5G version , you have a dedicated Qualcomm X50 5G modem chip use power,
so it is going to use more power than the 4G version ( 9825 has the 4G modem built into it ).

      Note 10+ 4G, 9825, 4300 mAh battery 107h endurance rating
      S10+ 4G , 9820, 4100 mAh battery 91h endurance rating
      Note 10+ 5G, 9825+5G chip , 4300 mAh battery, no data

  • This.. or the HK Snapdragon 512GB model from Oz_digital? 2 year OEM warranty vs 1 year seller warranty.. hmmm..

    • +1

You want longer warranty since this phone is almost non-repairable

      • More so that I am using this as my primary phone for work. I wanted the extra internal storage space mainly because DEX has replaced my laptop and I was going to run full UBUNTU with Linux for DEX. I suppose 256GB will make do and I'll still chuck most of my stuff on SD..

  • Do they provide a tax invoice with GST for TRS purpose?

If so what's the GST amount on it?

    • Full amount before 20% off, hence higher TRS.

  • Wouldn't this shit over an iphone xr purchase?

    • +2

S10e is more comparable to iPhone xr.

  • +2

I got a snapdragon version on an earlier deal for $1290 with a discount code but it has no warranty (or a dodgy Chinese warranty anyway). kinda wish i waited and got this deal with a 2-year warranty…. dam only an extra 60 bucks. i feel like the snapdragon version is better tho, not that it really makes a difference tho.

    • Why do you think the Snapdragon version is better?

      • +1

The GPU is faster and in multi-threaded applications, Snapdragon version still come out on top (despite Notes 10 Exynos version is using Exynos 9825 - now a 7nm chip). Running benchmark which tests GPU hurts Exynos (not exactly Samsung's fault, just the Mali GPU being inferior - that's why Samsung is partnering with AMD for their future mobile GPU). When you take away unfair gaming benchmark, they are neck and neck.

Then, there is the slight difference in photo processing. When you really nitpick, under certain conditions, photos taken/processed by Snapdragon look sharper. The colour science is also a bit different and it kinda depends on which one you prefer.

Battery life is another area though the issue apparently has already been fixed and with 7nm on 9825, it shouldn't be an issue anymore (hopefully).
