  • I got the Toshiba 8GB for $8 2 months ago from HN. Same price for 16GB and 4GB back then.

    • That's a great deal… guys it might be even cheaper at other stores then….!!!

  • The 2TB hard disk is USB2 only.

    • +2

It's slower, sure but it's $25 cheaper than the cheapest 2TB USB 3.0 deal around and many people don't have USB 3.0 capable systems (or just won't notice the speed difference).

      • +2

you could possibly take the hard drive out, dunno about this one

Also since USB3.0 has better & updated controllers there would be some difference in the speeds for the same USB2.0 port.
But at that cost you can't complain :D

        • You can buy a bare 2TB drive for the same or slightly less than $89, so taking it out of the enclosure (and thus having no warranty) seems a bit silly unless you've got no decent computer shops nearby.

        • ACT only has 1 MSY which never seems to have stock

        • +1

Fair enough, I suppose I'm a bit spoiled for choice in Sydney.

MSY's stock is unreliable everywhere, though :)

  • Same prices at North Ryde.

Sick, might pick one up in the next few days.

  • If anyone sees this in WA please let me know. The WA stores tend to be more expensive on these 'specials' :(

    • They have all of them at Armadale WA

  • Was just down at Harvey Norman Osborne Park (WA) and saw the 8gb usb for $10, but the only 4gb ones I could see were $7. I asked an employee who told me that they were getting more stock (about 200) in of the 2Tb Samsung Story hard drive which was priced at $89 so same as over east. He said it should be coming in tomorrow (30th June hopefully)! hope this helps someone in WA :)

IMO it is worth the extra money for a USB3.0 hard drive - I have one on a USB3.0 computer and get over 100MB/s - well worth it if you're copying alot of large files.

    Great deal though

    • " get over 100MB/s "

unless the portable is SSD, you wont.

      • nope I can get around that speeds when I checked with Crytaldiskinfo
That is for sequential read, the write speeds are around 80-85MB/S

I posted my stats on the first Staples 1TB deal if you really don't believe me ;)

        • When people post speeds they usually refer to write speed, saying "get over 100MB/s" is misleading if you aren't stating that's read speed.

  • Clive Peters has 8GB drives for $9!!!!

  • I bought the Toshiba and Verbatim 4GBs on sale. Did a benchmark of speed.

    Toshiba: 5MB/s
    Verbatim: 5.5MB/s

Which is slow. My Sandisk cruzers which i have in 2GB x2, 8GB and 16GB versions all move at 7MB/s minimum. My 16GB and 2GBs transfer at 8.3 MB/s

You get what you pay for :/

    • I guess 4gb size means you won't be transferring a lot of files anyway. Might just pick up a few for random document transfers!

  • Looks like online have similar prices, though the 2TB online is $99

  • I got one yesterday, good quality awesome price.

any one know what is the return policy @ HN?
my brother bought the Samsung story station 2 2 weeks ago at HN for $98 so just wondering whether that can be return to pick one up for $89 instead. a saving of $9 could get us an 8 gb USB ; )

all that hassle for nine bucks? what a tightass (and a true ozbargainer)

  • -1

if you don't know the answer/or find the question stupid, don't respond. whether my backside is tight or not is not up to you to judge, there is no need to attack ppl with sarcasm comment :<

    • boo hoo, go tell Oprah, she cares.

      • oh no did you not hear
        Oprah retired :|

    • everyone here is allowed their opinion, theirs is just as valid as yours. Plus Housecat wasn't insulting you, ease up

  • I've bought a 4gb toshiba usb thumb end of last yr from HVN. It is not a good product. It is so slow that you can't even use it for readyboost in windows. Moreover, it has compatibility problems. It is the worst usb thumbdrive i've ever used.

    • Compatibility issues? Care to share?

I've used this on a Mac, TV and a PC. OSx, Win 7, XP. No problems so far. Agreably it's slower than the premium drives.. but from what i understand after doing some digging. 5MB/s to 6MB/s is about industry standard these days.

  • Just got back from Gordon store 4gb drives for 2 bucks and a Samsung 22in led for 98.

    • the Toshiba's?

      • Yeah and a verbatim one

    • Samsung 22inch LED(LCD) monitor or TV. If so can you post a photo or something

      • sorry my bad was posting from my iphone before… model was s22a350h no tv tuner unfortunately but still an ok deal for under 100 bucks. I didn't bother to keep a copy of the ad because it finished tonight.

  • I bought the WD 2T Element USB drive from HN for $89 when they had a 20% off sale. Generally I find the WD drives to be of better quality then the Samsung and Seagate. Had Samsung drives died on me once. Personally I stick with WD.

I went to HN at Bondi Junction today and bought 2 of them for $99 each. The kicker is that they are the USB 3 model! I picked up 2 of them and didn't realise, took them up to the counter and asked the guy if they matched the price on their website. He checked with a sales guy and put them through….I'm stoked!

Edit: The real price for the USB model is $199

    • Wow so you saved yourself $200 that's awesome, great bait n switch :)
