  • Tenda Nova Whole Home Mesh Router

This has made my life complete…

    I love me Tenda…

  • +1

Go for the MW6. It's much better.

    • I bought the MW6 just before posting, looking forward to getting it up and running alongside my AC68U.

I think I read somewhere about disabling the wireless on the AC68U…..was that right?

I wouldn't trust a unknown new player to the market with my data. I would prefer to know what data they are taking/getting before I install it.

    • +10

Why the neg……this is OzBargain and this is clearly one of those. Data protection aside and whether you think its a concern allows you to choose not to purchase but it doesn't stop this being a deal.

    • +4

unknown to you doesn't make it unknown to the world.

      • -3

Known to the a part of the world where human rights, democracy and privacy don't exist. Sure.

    • +1

even you purchase other brand, still have the same problem……..

      • Depends on who has written the firmware. Id trust non-chinese firmware a hell of a lot more not to report back to base.

    • Tenda is not a new player.
Also, it does seem a bit suss with data being handled by a chinese comp but to be honest, if you don't have anything to hide, you don't have to hide

      • +2

Depends on your definition of hide. You send an email to your friend over east and say "hey my uncle is over in hk participating in the protests etc" and all of a sudden your uncle gets arrested for "unspecified crimes".

        Too "tin foil hat"?…

      • +1

so you don't mind me going inside your house to snoop around and listen in on your conversations then. You got nothing to hide right? I promise i wont tell anyone about what i see/hear in there.

    • To set up the Tenda nova MW6, you need the Tenda WiFi mobile app for Android and iOS. A big issue is the fact that it requests access to many things it shouldn't have access to. Things like your SMS messages, your camera, your call information, files, device and app history. The Tenda WiFi app has complete access to everything that you do on your smartphone. That is not OK and most probably does not respect data protection legislation like Europe's GDPR. This app should not request access to anything else other than WiFi, and Bluetooth, because they are the only services it needs to provide you with what you need from Tenda nova MW6.

Hmm interesting. I think that's pretty important to note. Not gonna neg the deal, but the guy shouldn't be negged too

      • +3

No it doesn't. Do you just make shit up for fun.

I literally have the app on my phone right now and the only permission it requires is Location.

        • No need to be salty. I got that from a review. It may have been updated, so it seems ;)

Maybe it doesn’t require those other permission, but according to your screenshot, it wants those permission.

There’s no legitimate reason for the app to ask for those permissions, optional or not.

          • @PainToad: I agree with PainToad's concerns.

            that's why I chose Unifi.

          • @PainToad: It wants those permissions if you do something that requires them.
            Storage is to clear cache
Camera is for qr code pairing I think
            There's plenty of legitimate reasons.

But all that is required for me has been location, had to dig around until the app asked me for those permissions.

            • @KenDiaMoi:

              Storage is to clear cache

That’s illogical. Needs permission to clear cache files, but doesn’t need permission to write them in the first place. That’s not how it works.

  • is MW6 worth the extra money?

    • yes, the coverage bigger than mw3, and port as well.

    • Depends on your use but for me it's worth the extra. MW3 has only 100Mbit/s ethernet port, whereas MW6 has gigabit ethernet.
If you only use it for internet access and never need more than 100Mbit/s transfer speed MW3 will be fine.

  • Good deal,

Just thinking, can one buy 2 sets of MW6 2 packs and connect them all together into a single mash network?

    TA

    • +1

Yes. You can add all & connect via cable or wireless.

      • thanks

  • My MW3 WiFi gets congested a fair bit when downloading large files over the internet, while streaming local files. I think it’s the 100Mbit Ethernet port bottle necking at the router….?

    • you can buy mw6-2 pack, put as primary node. after that will smoothly

      • so we can even mix-match mw3 with mw6?

        • +1

          Yes of course
