15 Hours layover at Singapore - Johor Bahru?

Hi all, I have a 15 hours layover at Singapore airport (5 AM to 8 PM) on Monday next week, I have already been to Singapore airlines free city tour, so looking for something new, I am not in to anything with spend over SGD 40-50 (such as Universal Studio etc)
Is there enough time (and is it worth?) going to Johor Bahru for a quick day trip (Aussie Passport)?

Other options I have, are;
- I do have unlimited Priority Pass Lounge access or
- eating at Airport staff canteen
- buy a Singapore Tourist Pass and roam around

Any suggestions?

there's a whole new airport opened up, and from what i've been told, you can spend days there

but shout out to JB crew! my homeland!

Definitely get out of the airport and enjoy Singapore for the day.
But no to JB - often there can be delays at the border, so that could completely stuff up your return to the airport.

Jewel is OK - fabulous indoor waterfall but otherwise large mall with numerous food and shopping options.
For a 15 hour layover, you can spend 1/2 day at the Garden by the Bay - v impressive enclosed rainforest (paid entry) and then 1/2 day walking Chinatown and dining in the hawker food stalls.

Give Jewel 1-2 hours in late afternoon then get into Airport termjnal back by 5.30pm so you can rest in lounger and chill out before next flight.

    • Thanks for the tip on the border delays. I will grab a ticket for Garden via Klook.

I went to those gardens in the jewel a few weeks ago, I'd recommend buying the ticket in person at the concierge. Theres an offer - if you download the ichangi app, they have entry @ $3 per person (applies to everyone in the group). Absolute deal.

That sounds like a pretty good deal! Heading over in a few weeks time so fingers crossed it’s still running then

Have been there to the new Man Made Waterfall airport shopping mall. Good to have a look at but you cannot spend much time there. I would recommend , rest and dress up in your lounge in the morning and go Bugis Market around 9am via the metro. You get good street food and shopping experience there. Come back around 3 pm and then go the mall. Get few pictures , window shop (shops are all branded and not the best prices) and then check in

Another heads up. If there are 2 (or more) travelling look at using the Grab ride share service. Can install app and set up on arrival.

Takes 30min to town by car versus 1 hour by MRT (with change of trains required).
Cost difference not substantial if 2 or more travelling.

    • Thanks. It’s just me alone. So planning to take MRT

Wouldn't recommend JB, purely for delays at the border (which can take up to 1 hour each way - depending on the time and how you are travelling). A friend of mine breezed through Singapore-JB immigration taking a chartered cab, but that's going to be more expensive compared to other options like the train or bus.

Probably recommend to go around Singapore, there are so many things to see and do. Just check out any travel sites and they will recommend the different areas to check out.

Look at the sister web page below - CheapCheapLah for inspiration and money saving in Singapore. A "bumboat" trip around the waterways is quite interesting.

Granted this was a long weekend but no ty wouldn't risk it with a flight to catch.

  • I really loved Jurong Bird Park

Going to Johor Bahru is bad idea as on either of the 2 causeway crossings is full of jams all the time coupled with the slow immigration procedures.

    Orchard Towers?

  • Just roam around Singapore. There's a lot more to do than a free tour like eat copious amounts of hawker food. JB is a bit of a shit hole and a stuff around to get to with the traffic jams etc.

Head to Changi Village hawker center, have food there and take the ferry to Pulau Ubin, you can rent a bicycle there and explore the island, not too far from airport too

  • last thing id be doing is venturing out, being on your feet all day, getting tired and sweaty.

    • Buy pool/shower access at airport to freshen up before departure
