    I had some issues - when I logged in and tried to redeem it, it told me that I couldn't use it.. However, I logged out, added the code as a guest and then it seemed to carry through

    The reasoning is because gift cards are frequently discounted, so they stop you from double dipping on discount.

      The reasoning is obvious, but that doesn't make it ethical. The effect is to essentially devalue their cards, which themselves state they should be "treated as cash" despite not being able to be utilised in the same way as cash
