Dutch Windmill Pale Lager - 24x 330ml Cans (Full Case) - $24 @ BWS

940

A buck-a-beer! Lowest price ever for this. Normally $37. Been drinking this for a while now and I don't mind it. It's probably the best of the budget beers @ BWS. Very drinkable and quite a subtle taste.

It's a full strength 4.6% and made in Holland.

They're not short dated either, you should find Best Before dates to be around July next year.

Checked a few stores elsewhere in Aus and seems to be readily available, so should be nationwide.

Don't forget 1% Cashback with SB/CR.

Check your emails too, I have an offer for spend $130, get $10 off instantly or spend $170 for $15 off.(In store only)

If you want delivery, it's free for orders over $100 and delivered within 1 hour.

If you have Woolworths gift cards, that's another 5% off.

For those that have purchased, let us know what you reckon of it in the comments. 🙂

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2019.

    Can or stubby?

The icon shows stubbies, but the box looks flat like cans.

    Edit: It's cans.

What a shame, I love a cheap beer, and don't mind windmills, but I have to draw the line at cans.

    • +32

Cans let in less oxygen than bottles so the beer will stay fresher for longer in a can.

They also have a smaller carbon footprint in production and also shipping as they are lighter and pack more efficiently.

Not sure why there is this misguided obsession with bottled beer in Australia.

      • +4

Drinking from a glass stubby is the most enjoyable way to drink beer IMHO. God, I'm feeling thirsty just thinking about it.

        • +7

Nah you've got to pour it into a glass, not that I do that often, I don't want any extra washing up!

      • +5

At home, I always use a double-walled glass, keeps it cool for an hour, no rush to drink your beer and no condensation all over your table.

      • +1

There is a noticeable taste difference between can & bottle.
So noticeable you can do a blind test and pick it every time

        • +2

Pour a fresh can and fresh stubby into separate glasses. I'll castrate myself and eat them if you can tell a difference.

The only difference will be in the bottled beer being more oxidized as it ages and will go stale more quickly than the same beer in a can.

          • @Vert93: Were you told this at your wine tasting class?

          • @Vert93: The difference is the aftertaste so technically its not the beer that taste diff but the bottle after taste. This is why some ppl prefer certain beers in a can and others in a bottle or off the tap if you like the creamier taste :P

      • This is so true, but a glass is almost as good.

      • I drink Guinness from cans and it's about as good as you can get other than on tap in Ireland, but Coppers pale ale in cans is foul, which is a bloody shame as I can fit more in the camp fridge. Sadly most beers I've compared are better from bottle, though that's a small sample really as they are rarely offered in both. Possibly plastic internal coating in cans reacting with the beer?

        • Totally agree - I usually drink Coopers Red & noticed they are/have released it in cans recently - will be very displeased if they move to canning only eventually! I think the issue with Coopers is that it's a live/conditioned beer so there needs to be a certain amount of activity from the yeast/sugars after bottling. The bottles are fairly thick (especially the 750ml's which allows for more residual sugar and hence more fermentation after bottling - I assume the cans can't handle the additional pressure - they seem to have very little yeast and are not cloudy to the same degree & it's the yeast which makes them taste so good! Without the yeast to me they taste more metallic or sharp…not terrible but way better from the bottles…

  • Except in the NT where we have a ridiculous floor price on alcohol so there's no such thing as cheap booze.

    Sigh.

    • What is the floor price for a slab of full strength.?

      • +3

$1.30 per standard drink. So this carton can't ever be sold for less than $37.44

        • Ok. Not too savage. But yes, it does rule out clearance bargains like this.

    • -1

ohhhhhh so that's why petrol sniffing is a thing there

      • +5

        User name checks out

  • going out of stock everywhere with the speed of light.

    • 13 cases available at Bankstown if you're near that neck of the woods.

  • +5

"pale lager"? Never heard of that one…

    • This was made with left over beer from Pale Ale and Lager at the bottom of barrel.

    • +1

pale lager ie. its not a dark lager which also exist

    • Discontinued now, but CUB had a VB pale lager as well.

  • +1

Algester had 17 left. Added to cart, 4 left. Tried to pay, 0 left.

  • I bought the last 5 slabs, so only 6 packs left.

  • Cheers got 4 from Botany NSW - hoping they are ok!

Dutch Windmill PL: RateBeer Overall 4 out of 100, Untappd 2.4 = urine. Give that dutch megaswill a miss and go for some local craft beer.

    • +4

I wouldn't rate it very highly either. It's a simple budget beer, light tasting and easy on the pocket. It's never gonna get rave reviews at this price.

I'd rather have this though than 3 times the price for a craft beer.

      • +4

IMO on a hot day after working in the yard a simple lager downed in big gulps is better than sipping on that small batch perfumey stuff.

      • Not if you make it yourself.

        I get 57 x 330ml bottles for about a cost of $59 (liquid wort + yeast + dry hops) and the quality is excellent. That's ~ $1 a beer.

See All Inn Brewing Fresh Wort Kits for all the styles of beer you can get!

    • Bang on.

  • +12

Ordered two from my local, when I arrived he said out of stock, so I got to pick something else! Two boxes of Corona Extra for $24 each, score!

    • +1

      Bonus!

    • +4

You could have picked anything and you picked Corona?!?

      • Guessing it was an equivalent beer! ;) - Just trying one now and understand why they are cheap, but to be honest it's still better than the typical club beers such as vb, tooheys, carlton, etc. I'm usually a Coopers drinker…can't imagine they would have done a case of sparkling for $24!

        • -2

evanssm2jp: I wouldn't know, you're the one drinking the cheap crap, I'm the one drinking Corona for the same price :D

          • +2

@Abbi: But Corona IS crap, it's just not cheap.

            • -1

              @Schmiddler: The point I thought I was making! It's on par…

            • @Schmiddler: Personal taste. I dont see the VB you drink winning any awards. Meanwhile while you yabber away I sit here drinking $55 beer for $24.

              • +3

                @Abbi:

Meanwhile while you yabber away I sit here drinking $55 beer for $24.

Lol Corona isn’t worth $55 by a long shot. There’s a reason why you drink it with a lemon/lime..

              • @Abbi: If you ever see me drinking a VB please put me out of my misery.

      • +2

No I couldn't pick "anything". I wasn't there to rip them off by picking the most boutique or expensive beer possible. It was suggested for me to pick something else, within reason, so I did. It's a $55 beer (at BWS) that I got for $24. Not sure what your issue is.

        • -6

My "issue" is you chose the worst tasting beer in the shop.

          • +3

@onetwothreefour: Exactly, YOUR issue. NOT mine. You will learn to deal with it somehow.

Is it my fault you have no taste in beer? No.

EDIT: Oh and keep on negging. Just more juvenile behavior.

            • -2

@Abbi: Touch hypocritical that you're upset he doesn't like Corona but say he has no taste.

              • @Schmiddler: I'm not following your logic, because it doesn't make any sense. And I'm not upset he doesn't like Corona.

            • -1

@Abbi: Lol you're the only one with juvenile behavior here.

Is it my fault you have no taste in beer? No.

But yet you ordered some $24 beer and when that wasn't available you chose corona. Both of them are shit beers.

              • @onetwothreefour: I ordered it because it was cheap.

Is it my fault you missed out on cheap beer? Is it my fault i'm sitting here drinking $55 beer and you're crying. Please don't be jealous of my good fortune.

It must be school holidays or something. So much jealousy.

                • @Abbi: How did I miss out? My local still has 15 packs in stock according to the website, I just don't want to buy any.

I also wouldn't pay $24 for corona as it's SHIT!

                  • @onetwothreefour: You're in this thread and you don't want any? Rofl. Pull the other one,it has bells on it.

Please don't take your frustrations out on me just because you missed a deal.

                    Damn school holidays! :(

                    • -3

@Abbi: Was just here to wind someone up and you took the bait.

                      Have a good night.

                      • @onetwothreefour: No no! I was enjoying the fun whilst drinking my $55 beer :D

                        :)

  • didn't up vote so i didn't miss out on the deal. bahaha i think that just says how much i like my beer tho ;P

  • +1

literally just picked some up at my local BWS (scarborough QLD)

still had 6 slabs in stock.

  • +1

I hesitated for several hours…then there was still stock! That's not how things usually work.

2 cases from my local. Usually prefer a heftier pale ale, but will drop to lager level to give it a try.

  • +1

Plenty of stocks at my store, 1 slab collected, & now on 2nd can , really impressed, ( my usual is Asahi 500ml), definitely order one more, my expiry Oct 2020. Thanks Op

    • +1

Good to see we're getting some real-time good reviews.

      • +2

4th can gone,, oh man , going to order 2 more, summer is approaching :)..

  • gone online… spewing.

    • Still available online if your local store has stock.

Although Gold coast (where I am) is pretty much sold out across the coast.

Plenty of stock in Sydney stores especially Western Suburbs.

  • +2

A lot of people seem to drink beer every night?

  • +2

Got one from Sandown park hotel noble park, plenty of stock.
Thank you very much OP i am into third can no problems :)

  • +1

Ordered it earlier today and picked it up on the way home, not a bad beer, especially for the price. The first few sips were a bit iffy though 😂

  • +1

Bought a case at BWS Niddrie Drive (Essendon). They have 5 left. It's going to be my go-to beer whenever I'm out of good beer.

I'm a believer that bad/mediocre beer tastes better when it's hot outside (and you're desperate for a cold one). So probably will drink most of it once it starts to get above 27 degrees or so.

    • +1

Finally tried it. Does taste like an in-between of a pale ale and a lager (more like a lager though). It's not bad, but not amazing either. Definitely well well worth $1 a can to drink on a hot day. Another good Ozbargain purchase.

  • Just picked up some. Tastes just ok. A bit like xxxx. Budget beer. Good alcohol content tho

  • Awesome bargain. I love the cheap dutch made lagers more than name brand stuffs.

  • +2

The BWS dude gave me a complimentary $10 craft beer! Awesome.

And to top it off, this dutch lager actually tastes pretty darn good to me. Happy bargain.

  • +1

Just picked up my 2 cases. Guy said one left so we got that one too! Even helped put it in our car (drive thru) and said "I'm comin to ur place to help drink it" :D

Tastes pretty good. Bargains galore, thanks OP!

  • Still in stock near me so I grabbed another couple of cartons, haha.
