Good to see other retailers selling new switch

  • +1

Any other gaming hardware bargains in that catalogue?

  • Do people prefer the grey console more? Is that why the neon is usually on sale first?

    • +3

Neon is definitely way more popular.

  • It's strange that the switch has been holding it's value so well

    • +15

It is Nintendo not really the retailer's, like Apple they never really lower their prices

    • The main reason is because that there is no other console on this category.
Even if another console appears, Nintendo already have a great solid customers.
Sony PSP is the only console close to it but doesn't offer a lot of features such as

      • 1 console and 4 players I guess
      • HDMI without adapters
      • extra controllers
      • and so on
  • +2

    Waiting for lite version

    • you mean the one that can't be docked or played on the big screen?

    • +1

Bunnings has lots of light switches.

      • +2

So you're saying it's a good place to snag some switches.

  • +4

A quick review and the 2019 Model didn't change enough to justify the higher cost.

    • +3

Just the battery life. 50% to 80% higher depending on the game.

Minimum battery life moves from 2.5 hours to 4.5 hours….. Now up to 9 hours

      • +2

        It is still not worth.
The main complain from friends is that the games are big but the console's storage is very limited.
You can expand it using a microSD. But we all know that a microSD has read/write limitations.
If you want to have the best performance, you have to buy the expensive microSD ones

        OR

Like this guy, buy a A1 400GB microSD lol

        • +2

If you already have a Switch, it's not worth it.

But microSDs are so cheap now…

Plus, on the Switch, you can keep the game icon on the dashboard and download the game later if space is an issue, if you need more room than 128GB (can get dirt cheap), then you're not playing your games.

Been using the same microSD card on my Switch since Zelda came out, hasn't skipped a beat. Enough complaining.

        • +2

It's mostly write cycles that are limited… and playing a game only reads the game data.

Better to have cheap removable/replaceable/upgradable storage than pay an excessive amount for a console with slightly more built-in storage.

          • @ssquid: I agree in parts.

I have a Xbox One S with 1TB internal disk but even so, I use a 3TB USB 3.0 external hard drive connected to it. I do this because the USB 3.0 connection is much faster than the internal SATA connection, and in case my Xbox gets F…. I can just connect the external hard drive to a new one, login, and all my games will be there. I my case I am looking for performance, portability, backup, and the games load so crazy faster.

Going back to the Switch case, 32GB is nothing. For the price and the size of the games, it should have 2x or 3x times more storage as default. After that is acceptable for the user to expand the storage with microSD. You will be doing so for convenience like my Xbox case rather than necessity.

            • @ratoloko: Increasing the storage is just going to increase the price point and size. The xbox one comparison is pointless, from my quick research, it has a 2.5 inch drive which is most of the size of the switch itself. My switch travels >40km a day, an xbox usually doesn't. An Xbox's internal and external storage options just have absolutely no synergy with the switch's core concept.

And I've yet to see anyone among the Switch owning people and communities I talk to have a problem with the existing set up of just grabbing an SD card.

  • Ooh. Tempted. I have a $70 gift card for Big Double-Ya and was waiting for the revised edition with the better battery. Anyone reckon there'll be better deals around Christmas, or nah? I only ask because of the supposed focus there will be on the Switch Lite instead.

    • 400 is pretty good for the new version

  • +5

DO NOT BUY THIS, it's exceeding market retail which is $399 at this point for a Switch.

If you buy it, they'll keep jacking prices up. This is how it works.

    • +7

MSRP of the first Switch model (not this one) is $399, whereas the MSRP of the new model (this one) is $479. Nintendo has slowly reduced the MSRP of the older model so they can put the newer model out in the wild at the same price that the older model was released at.

    • +1

      Do your research son.

    • +1

      Agreed.

  • Good deal!
I was coming to EB Games to purchase the $469 bundle.

Is there any difference between buying at BigW and EB Games in terms of warranty and trade in policies?

And how to get the 5% off WISH gift cards?
I have searched on the forum but nothing came up.

    • EB price matches.

      • +1

I thought they no longer price match on hardware!?

        • +1

Eb only price match if the competitor is in the same complex- read within 10m of its front door. If that's the case just go with the cheaper offering out there.

          • @Sarge2401: BigW is about 100m away so that's not the case. Their '10m' price match policy is ridiculous.

            • +1

@dinhhuynh: He said they price match in the same complex and that it said this within 10m of the entry not that they only price match with stores 10m away lol.

              • @Valefortia: Cool! Thanks for clarifying!

                • +4

@dinhhuynh: No worries, for the record tho I believe EB price match any nearby stores as long as they have the item in stock. Pretty sure it DOESN'T have to be in the same center/complex. That's how JB Hi-Fi do it anyway.

                  • @Valefortia: I came to local EB Games this afternoon.
They said that they definitely price match BigW, but not on this deal, because they don't sell the console separately.
They only offer $450 for the console without the 2 games lol.

                    • @dinhhuynh: Lol well that sucks, bad luck. =/

                      • @Valefortia: How about JB Hifi compare to BigW?

                        • @dinhhuynh: Yea JB Hi-Fi should do a price match, as long as the place you are price-matching from has it still in stock.

    • 5% off wish gift cards are purchased from Cash Rewards.

      • New to this, I see a Woolworths gift card that's 5% off at cash rewards. Can that be used at big w?

        • +1

Yep, Dan Murphy's and BWS too.

  • Where's the full catalogue for this?

  • It's showing as $399 on the Big W website

But really, there's no way of telling (via the website, OR the photo in the catalog) if you're gonna get a new or old version unless you call up the store and check.
The new box graphics in that catalog isn't really guarantee you're going to get the new version IMO. It doesn't specify. If only old stock is available, they can just say apologies - printing error or something I'm pretty sure?

EDIT: Just checked stock online and none of my local stores are listed as having stock anyway :/

    • This seems to be the link for old version, now $389.

  • Just picked one up from the Lilydale, VIC store - they had plenty in stock.

    • Was it the newer model?

      • Picked up one from Pakenham and it is the newer model

        • Did you go to the store and buy directly or did you place order online then C&C?

          • @twomaos: Went to store and bought directly, they had them out the back

      • +2

        Newer Model.

  • Seems only old model left. Can't find the link for newer model on their website.

  • Does staff discount get 5% or 10%? Would be a decent deal.

    • To answer my own question, went instore and the staff discounts doesn’t apply. Still a good deal paired with the vogue Amex, saved myself ~$160

      • It should you give you 10% off

        • Thanks for clarifying, went to jbhifi to price match instead. Ryde only had 1 in stock and the box was squished

  • They finally updated their website to show the new model and there's plenty of stock left. Grabbed one via C&C.
