No problems for me so far with Shopback and Amazon AU.

Ebay via app a bit fiddly though.

      • +9

A quick search of Shopback in forums on here and its countless posts about people not being paid.. chasing cashbacks and getting no where.

My main issue with SB is they are not Australian based and as such do not technically have to adhere to our privacy laws.
Singapore (where they are based) have lax laws in regards to data retention and date sales
While they might offer higher cashbacks in some cases, i would not risk my data to a company that has no obligation to me or to protecting my information.

But please feel free to be offended and downvote me…i can take it :P

        • +1

I will happily provide my shopping data for higher rates.

          • +2

@pifts: its more than just your shopping data but if you are happy then that's all that matters for you :)

            • -1

@jimbobaus: I noticed AU retailers / sites sold my data. Who do I complain to in order to rectify the situation?
Are we allowed to ask Google, Apple and Microsoft to delete all the information they collected on us?

              • +4

@netsurfer: Companies like Apple, Google and the like actually adhere to local laws by allowing you to Opt Out, the opt-out option may not be front and centre but they ALL have it as they are locally registered and must have to adhere to local laws.. even Steam does this now as they recently opened up shop locally. Shopback does not. Companies like CR who are Australian based and operated already adhere to local laws as a term of operation in this country.
I am not saying companies do not sell data, of course they do when you allow them to by signing up, not opting out or unticking the relevant boxes … but they give you that option… SB DOES NOT.. and this is my issue.

Shopback being completely based in Singapore which has dodgy privacy laws (at best) means they do not need to follow the guidelines here,

If you are ok with a foreign based company with no local registration or P/L selling your data with no come back or right to fight then go ahead.. i am not and wont deal with them. The risks for a few extra cents here and there is not worth it for me.

To share my experience dealing with CR, I had $78 accrued in my CR account over a period of about a year and all of it disappeared overnight. I contacted them to ask why my account balance had vanished and got told by their CC that they had no record of any money ever accumulated in my account. So yeah, being Australia based and following Australian rules is a seperate thing.

      Nice try CashRewards staff member…

      • Don't work for CR.. send TA an email and ask.. he will confirm i am a customer yes.. not an employee

    • +1

Funny you mention that, as I have had the same experience with CashRewards.

If it's a few cents, as with many smaller ebay purchases, they're usually happy to oblige.
However when I tried claiming their 5% promo for Microsoft last year (including screenshots showing CR plugin was active, receipts etc) for over $50, they were less than helpful, and ended up closing the ticket in their favour.

We've since switched to ShopBack, and have recommended them to others, though yet to make a large claim as above. Until then, I can't claim they're any better, but they can't be any worse than CR.

      simple maths dude

      amazon cheaper

      • +1

        Pricebeat.

        • -3

true but if you use shopback. get 4.5% off

Given office works price beat by 5% off original price, it will be around a saving of less than a dollar

given I get free delivery with amazon prime
Petrol costs i'd argue outweighs the additional saving

there is also the convenience factor

@YLD1: Plus wear and tear to your vehicle. Chance to get in an accident on the way…

    • It says $249 via the link so not cheaper.

      • shows $210 for me

guessing it might be due to my prime membership

        • Prime Office Works?

          • @Sage: OW and Amazon are sharing or interpreting each others' cookies now?

            Shows $249 for me too…

    • Yep oops, pricebeat maffs

  • +3

$199.50 @Officeworks with price beat if you can snag one!

  • +1

    It is showing $274.85

    • Still $210 for me, but out of stock (but more on the way).

  • You can get lower price on a Samsung T5 1TB portable SSD. Because many people sell it on Ebay (It was from last ebay sale, all brand new)

You linked to a different product, which was an EBAY plus deal that accrued 41 negative votes (likely because people didn't end up receiving them). I'm sure people sell them second hand though.

  • Showing 274.85 for me

    • +1

      Double check the seller

    • you need to click where it says "5 new from $210"

  • Does anyone know if I can backup my GoPro directly to the external SSD, without a PC?

    Cheers

    • +1

Not using this drive. There are drives with SD card readers that can copy data off the card without a PC.

  • +1

In b4 someone ask if this is shuckable

    • No need, last price I saw at umart for a 1TB 860 msata was $210. SSD may be cheaper and M.2 different

  • which one is cheaper and better speed? this external ssd and its variants, or snap a cheap 1tb ssd + encloser?

    • +2

Unless you are talking the exxy Samsung X5 with its thunderbolt enclosure both options are around the same speed and price, I recently paired a $180 1TB Crucial MX500 m.2/sata drive with a $15 USB-C enclosure from ebay and get ~450MB/s R/W.

FYI, the deal is still on, although shipping takes 1-2 months
