The LAX transit is usually awful. Collect your bags, queue for immigration, queue for bag drop, terminal change, queue for the TSA. If you can get from plane door to the gate of your next flight in under 2hrs you're having a good day at LAX.

      I made a 55 minute connection 2 weeks ago, VA -> DL.

Sounds like you had a good day

      • Yeah, I've made a similar connection 3 (out of 3) times in the last couple of years.

    • I haven't transited there but the last couple of times I've got into LAX from BNE I've literally been through luggage/customs/immigration and been out on the street inside 40 minutes of landing - helps the BNE flights get in around 6 - 6:30 am so you're there before the US east coast flights start turning up.
I gather the issue is in the transit process itself?

My last trip to LAX with AirNZ last Nov was insane. 28 mins after touchdown we arrived at our LAX hotel. Everything was perfect - immediate pull in to gate, fast plane exit, no immigration queue, bags slide onto carousel as we arrive, no luggage inspection (wtf?), out the door and our hotel shuttle bus pulls in. I was in the hotel pool 10 mins after hotel arrival too. This never happens.

        • Sounds like an absolute dream!

      • Security can only handle a couple of flights at a time. The VA flights from MEL and SYD arrive during the busy mid morning time.

The bag drop is chaotic if there's a late arrival. If a 77W or A380 arrives late there's hundreds of passengers need rebooking, the queue can run for hundreds of —metres— yards. A while ago I learned to skip the TBIT bag drop and go straight to the next terminal and drop my bags there.

    • We transmitted through LAX, to come home, a couple of months after 911 happened. The queue was all the way through the hall and up the footpath on both sides. They had to pull people out of the queues to push them through security to get the planes in the air. The most counter productive move I’ve ever seen. I’ve been through it many times and I do agree LAX is a pretty dud airport at the best of times.

    • I head out to the states every 6 weeks. For all the trips I made this year (all via LAX), I managed to do all this in less than 1 hour. 2 hours would be really comfortable. so don't worry people.

now for AUD to go up…

I remember the last time I went to the US which was in 2011-12 and the AUD was stronger than the USD… now its below 70c definitely makes me rethink going on holidays anytime soon.

  • Careful not to step on any used needles!

True. I went a couple weeks ago for a few days and paid $1k return so this is a great deal.

Yeah San Francisco is a cool place. There are some less desirable areas but I found if you keep to yourself, others will too, short of asking for a dollar or two.

      • Never had any issues with wandering around San Franciso. Like all cities there are places that aren't great to go to but I've never felt unsafe. It really is a great city to visit and you can get round pretty good on their public transport system. if you walk around it will also give your legs a good workout; the hills are massive for a city.

    • You can't frighten me I live in Fitzroy. Until our area got more gentrified we used to do a daily collection, in our street, to take used needles to the disposal place.

      • Back in the 80s?

        • 90s, but our place fronts on a lane way.

Last time I went there were no needles, just turds randomly in the middle of sidewalks.

      • Lol, I'm not sure what's worse to step on.

virgin is better option(for in flight experience and service) and than Qantas and united.

    • I haven't done Qantas and United but I can say my Business Class experience on Virgin was better than the one on Etihad.

      • I have traveled to SFO in united economy - worst experience and Qantas to Singapore - again bad experience.
I would rather prefer Jetstar any day - at least i will save some money.

  • Any deals for March/April 2020 that may come by?

    • Did you want complimentary personal chauffeur service to the airport?

Great prices for San Francisco flights. Awesome weather in Oct/Nov. Thank you for this.
