Got the soundsports. Guess that’s it. I’ve peaked.

  • Like many others, I couldn't see the deal on the eBay deals page, was refreshing mobile, iPad and google chrome simultaneously.
I wish eBay doesn't exist before it turns 21…

  • +11

I don’t quite understand why eBay is running this promotion. Sure there will be a few happy people who grab a bargain but there will be tens of thousands of people pissed off that everything sold out in less than a minute.

Sure, they might sell a few more eBay plus memberships but they are generating quite a lot of negative customer goodwill.

    • +1

Everything was literally sold out in 10 second

    • +3

Agree, the negative goodwill (and scanning this thread, it's toxic) would far outweigh the few people who luck out on the bargain. They'd be best not having these promotions at all.

    • +4

EBAY short term strategy = gain as many ebay plus members $ with these stupid promotions stunts
and hope they think there is actual value with ebay plus (for these promotions) but there is not used for it other than that.

      LONG TERM unexpected outcome =
-all those pissed off ebay plus members/customers seeing how much better AMAZON membership is leaving eBay plus
-eBay looks unprofessional and lose their reputation in the eyes of all those pissed off ebay plus members
-eBay plus becomes the new COTD 2.0

      • +3

This whole thing really has got a Catchathon vibe, hasn't it? And that, friends, is BAD.

      • their marketing probably have a quota to meet in terms of new ebay plus signups…

      • Thing is, they know they have the auction monopoly is Aust (and select parts of the world). They know, a certain % will get peeved, but the general population will never change auction sites.

        • yes, but at least they won't be getting any more extra $ for their dumb ebay plus membership..from all the pissed off ebay customers

a site is a good as their reputation
COTD reps is totally ruin after their own COTD deals like these
and I don't see those deals posted on here any more..

And when people get pissed off they start comparing to alternative competitors
like now I see how much better Amazon membership + promotions is in comparison to ebay plus promo stunt..

    • Agree

    • Agreed and I've managed to pick up bith sets of pods.

  • +7

This is literally a business fraud. Wasting of time clicking on to bring eBay tons of eyeballs.

    • +2

and still being promoted on ozbargain
yet other still promotions by COTD is hated by the ozbargainers and no longer getting posted.

I think the best way to give ebay the middle finger
is to not join or rejoin ebay plus

this is just a waste of most people's time here
and is really just a marketing promotion stunt to get more people to join the dumb ebay plus membership which has
no usage other than for these dumb promotions stunt and then even most people can't take advantage of it.

  • +1

Seems like the deals page is too slow to update.
Those who got the deal had the correct link to the product by searching for it prior to the deal going live.

  • +9

You've cancelled your eBay Plus membership

  • +12

    Cancelled plus membership too.

  • Who here got it and what is your internet speed?

Who here didn't get it and is your internet speed one of the fastest?

    • +4

I've got 950mbps upload and download and still missed out.

      • I'm outmatched hahaha what provider are you with?! and other stats? its so much!

        • I work at a university so internet is very good.

      • +5

woah didn't realise they had such fast internets in Bonnie Doon

    • Got one…no idea of speed.

I was on the Bose page already. Refreshed proceeded to purchase.

Was no wording at the top of auction like the others. Code was down the bottom

      • How did you find the bose page? I thought it's unavailable until it's updated on spotlight?

        • +1

It was posted several times in the chat here.

It wasn't a confirmed link (was based on the fact the price matched and was the seller of the Airpods from the last balls-iup) but it was the right one

          • @britta: Did you already add it to cart and code was bottom of the Bose page?

            • @PeeDee: Nope. The code was above the postage where is says "Pay only AU$20.00 [ Show me how ]"

              • @britta: oh ok. thanks, prepping for next deals

                • +2

@PeeDee: Yeah unfortunately to win at these kinda deals you gonna do your homework. Simply logging in 1 min before and clicking refresh on the main page aint gonna cut it. Effort = reward :-P

                  Good luck

                  • @britta: that's so great of ebay to kindly let us know if we want to pay cheaper in case we proceed to buying at higher haha. I'm so excited for the pan…..

                    • @PeeDee: Did ya get em?

                      • @britta: Nope missed out (cries) people are really in the game for these

    • As long as it's average or above then your internet speed is not a problem.
      (I got it).

    • I got it! Currently at work right now 100mbps/33mbps

  • +2

If you contact ebay and kick up a fuss they'll refund your plus membership fees (even after they told me that they can't do it). What a joke of a sale, maybe if enough people express their frustration and cancel their plus membership they may actually get the message.

    • Was that with a recent purchase? Mine renewed last month automatically and they said they can't undo it as it's against their T&C =/ Cancelled since but I've still paid for a year that I did not want it.

      • I recently got ebay plus. They initially told me as well that they couldn't refund my fees, but when I got a little more unwilling to accept that resolution they agreed to refund them.

      • If you don't want it to renew you need to cancel BEFORE the renewal date. It's not that complicated, and definitely not eBay's fault.

    • what did you say to them?

i feel that there is no real value in ebay plus other than for these dumb promo stunts
and then you can't even use it..

Amazon membership is looking so much more better and more professional
and you can actually take advantage of their deals and benefits

This ebay promotion stunt is Catch of the Day 2.0
and people are willing to tolerate and promote it on ozbargain
while the COTD deals are no longer being posted on ozbargain.

      • How many sets of Bose earbuds do you think they should have discounted, 'to make it fair'?

        • +1

          that's not the point

the point is their site don't work properly
the deals pages does not show the new item until 2 minutes pass and sold out

this not in accordance with the promotion instructions

just read the entire thread here
you will see that the listing does not refresh

if you have bought on Amazon you will see their system is so much better
I have been able to add to the cart and the item is held for 10 minutes till in choose to checkout or not
Also when when a promo item or lightening deal appears on amazon many people are able to actually grab one..
not this bullshit soldout before the listing even appeared.

This entire promotion stunt of ebay is just wasting people's time

          • @pinkybrain: I basically told them exactly that.

            • @DarrylKerrigan: how much of the membership did you used already
and how much you paid for it?

did you get any bonus items or credit back when you first joined?

              • @pinkybrain: I got the membership today with their $5 deal. Regardless, they'll refund if you get angry enough about this situation with them, just don't accept no as an answer.

                • @DarrylKerrigan: usually not easy to do in real life from my experience
                  since they are well trained

they will say something like we understand your situation bla bla
and come with sorry nothing we can do afterwards

if you just keep going on with more comments
they will just come back to the above two statements in new rephrasing etc…

anyways good to know you got your $5 back..

                  • @pinkybrain: Just be persistent. The story initially went from "No, unfortunately, the subscription fee is non-refundable." to "Alright… I'm more than happy to help you out in getting the refund.".

        • At least 20,000 pairs

  • +6

    Guys! let's cancel the membership

  • +14

eBay Plus is really not worth the money, Amazon Prime is so much better.

    • +1

I paid $1. That's all it's worth to me lmao

      eBay plus bloody sucks

      • I also paid $1 for disappointment.

  • +6

Managed to get the Towels and Wireless Earbuds. Want to just give a big thank you to the whole community, there was 0 chance of me getting it without the help of you guys.

  • Got one :-) Thanks OP and those who posted the link and discount code before it went live. Missed out on the Google Home as I was refreshing the wrong listing. Not too sure what I will do with the headphones, I got free Samsung Galaxy Buds when I got my phone and don't use them much. Maybe save them for an epic Christmas present or give my buds to my other half and keep these.

    • Where did they post it and how did they know?

      • +1

Few pages back. I've landed every deal from these listings I was chasing and it's pretty much all from the comments.

    • +2

For those who still want to try for the other stuff, I'll just post what I did to get the stuff:

1.) Try out the codes posted by other, and see if they are legit by just pretending to buy a product and using the code. If it says its not ready it means it's the right code (The message will still appear even if it's not the correct listing). If it says it's incorrect then the code is bad.

2.) Try to find the listings, people also posted a few. You can kinda guess/check if its correct. For the towels, there was only one seller, so that had to be it. For the earbuds, the new listing was a bait (because other color options were still available) while the other listing was only for the triple black (so I predicted the switcheroo).

3.) Once you think you've predicted everything right so far, refresh the listing that you're betting on. I use https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/australia/brisbane, to get a more precise timing.

4.) The rest is up to speed.

      SNEAKY METHOD:
If the listing you're betting on has the option for you to "add to cart", you can add it and go to check out. Refresh the checkout at the right time, enter the code (make sure its actually applied) and click "confirm & buy". You'll see an error pop up, but just ignore it and click "confirm & buy" again (without refreshing) and it should work.

I was able to get Airpods on both occasions, hope it's not to eBay's trick not to show the deal to the repeat offenders ..lol

  • +2

    PCHEF20 here we come

  • I got the bubbler …. didnt get the google hub and bose … :(((

  • So crap. At least I got a sodastream as a consolation prize.

  • +5

This is absolute BS marketing from eBay. Why not use some kind of lottery system, and pick winners? This should be posted in competitions not deals.

    • +1

Yoy're complaining about how its a competition but suggest that they use a lottery system?

      • No it's not a competition, it's BS. But its more like a competition than an actual deal.

  • +2

I'm not sure how others can buy when I can't even see the deal getting loaded. I've tried to refresh the page multiple times using different browsers but still nothing. Then it suddenly ebay reports the deal as sold out.

    • +3

Simply put mate, people are figuring out which store / listing is going to be the deal through some clever detective work / hoping for the best and having a listing added to their cart ready to pull the trigger at the designated time with what is likely to be the code. That way they don't need to wait for the Spotlight page to update, and thus by the time the page updating it's generally sold out.

    • The only way to have gotten the earphones was go know the link beforehand. People here worked it out and it got lost within the mess.

      Congrats to them.

  • +2

    This pan better be good

  • These "deals" remind me of the old Lockerz Redemptions…

    • WOw - nostalgia moment. lol

  • +1

Thanks to those who provided the link to the item and code. I missed out on the Home Hub due to watching the wrong listing as well, but managed to score one of these.

    • -1

      Exactly like me.
Now I can sell the Bose and buy the Home Hub I really wanted.

  • +12

Missed on everything. Time to start working now. Have to catch-up on 5 hours of work

  • +1

Cannot manage to get any even through active participation, when does it count as unobtainable?

  • -4

    Thanks guys!

Was able to score the Soda-stream, Towels and Bose earphones.

Missed out on the Hub which i'm pretty bummed about

    • +6

      Boo hoo you. LOL

    • +4

Well on the bright side, use the towels to wipe away your tears while comforting yourself with a sparkling beverage and listening to Shannon Noll's "What About Me" in wire-free high definition.

  • Here is how i got the headphones

I found the headphones at around 12:05, added it to cart before stock ran out.
Opened up 10 pages and apply codes to each of them.
As soon as the clock hit 1:59, I started to click check out on all 10 pages.
3 orders were confirmed successfully by doing this, but of course only one was allowed.

  • Is the pan any good?

  • +2

Big scam. Had ebay plus for 12 months and expired last month, I tried these deals multiple times with fast internet and sells out before you have a chance… it is bait and switch strategy - which is illegal.

    • -1

Not really… people are just buying them quicker

      • Yes, but the demand does not satisfy the need. It is baiting in customers, and is illegal.

        • +1

This is not bait and switch.
This is demand exceeding supply. And when supply is 300 units, I don't think they can do much about that.

          • +1

@bmerigan: It is bait and switch, because having a small supply of 300units that sells out in less than a second is the bait, and the switch is making them go to the ebay website first, and secondary is providing them recommendations to similar products once it's sold out.

You tell me how that isn't Bait and Switch, because that is exactly what it is.

  • +1

I hate ebay, I now only buy stuff with their 15% off codes, cause i know they're losing money :)))))))))))) F U

    • +1

Well when eBay (with their 10 billion dollars of annual revenue) shut down due to bankruptcy we'll know who to blame.

  • +1

This promo has specifically put me off eBay plus. There was no chance for regular users to get these deals, you had to know which items was going to be discounted before it was listed on the 'Deals' page to even have a chance. It's a shame this wasn't better executed, with a fairer system for working out who could buy the items.

  • Had the old (correct) listing in my watchlist. The (3) listing in my cart. At 2pm on the dot I tried to add the code which said 'the code doesn't apply to any items in your cart' or so. Switched to the home page to try follow the link on the deals section, no dice.
Switched to my watchlist, saw the other listing had a buy now option, whew.

Was one probably one of the last people to get it, very lucky

  • I had the right listing but the wrong code :( the code never actually came up on the listing for me.

  • +2

    Hate ebay these days

  • +1

Earphones disappeared within a minute. I successfully added it in my cart and I was just about to check out it disappeared. Disgusting

    • Things don't just vanish into thin air. You obviously misplaced the earphones and don't know where you put them.

  • Did anyone go to bunnings after 12 and get the google home hub for $19 as a price beat as bunnings beat eBay prices if it’s a business seller not a private seller but they only did this till 1 if u were lucky
I had a few friends who got them
    But 1 per person

    • That doesn't sound very likely. They don't need to price match this price. They only need to pricematch a price which is actually available.

    • Fairly sure they only beat thing in stock, not to mention a ebay list with code and specifically for plus which is a paid membership
Tried price match the last Amazon Phillip Hue deal when OOS no luck.
