  • Coles have Sirena tuna in oil Italian style $5.50 for 425g ($12.94 per kg).

i didn't see my favorite one with chilli though.

  • Yessss 🙏

    • Not all personal preferences are valid! :)

Jokes aside, is it the Italian oil variety you tried? It's the pick of the bunch, and more chunk style tuna than many of the other sirena flavours.

Yep, what the heck is Italian oil anyway? Is that for a car?

I don't trust Italians and their oils.

    The GOAT tuna

I get the Italian style one from ALDI and it's the bigger can for like $1.70 it's exactly the same as sirena, both are product of Thailand so probably come from the same factory.

    • No it's not, Aldi's tuna is even worse than woolies select

    • one is skipjack tuna and the other is yellow fin tuna …..yellow fin is the more expensive fish, and larger and bigger chunks, it is why you rarely see sirena 1/2 price in coles or woolies compared to john west which is skipjack tune.

      • Woolies has yellowfin also in some of their tunas. It just depends on how much mercury you want in your fish.

    • Why the negs for this comment? I too fund it difficult to tell the difference between sirena chili tuna and Aldi Ocean Rise chili tuna, (the one that's 1.19 for 95g). Or was that comment referring to a different style of tuna?

      • Perhaps if it's strongly flavoured with chilli it would be similar. All you're tasting is the chilli.
The plain tuna in oil is (imo) very much better then any of its competitors.

    • Had the ALDI in oil . Must admit I have had tuna for years for gym purposes and it's pretty close to this. Esp when it's on sale for 99c at ALDI

    Time to raid IGA

Is it better than John west?

    • yes, john west use cheap skipjack tuna.

    • +4

John West is the fish Sirena rejects.

      • I thought John West the best? it rhymes though…

It's all the same crap from Thailand. If you're lucky you will get some dolphin or turtle too.

      • +1

I love dolphins but couldn't eat a whole one… lol

    Great. Thank OP.
I'll make a trip to the IGA to stock up.
As well from being better tuna in my opinion, Sirena catch with pole and line, not net. Better for the oceans. Well worth the higher cost.
