      Cheers.

Some good prices on b450 boards now, but they lack any real future proofing.

      These are a great price

Edit: sorry, pressed neg trying to upvote you 🙁

        I countered it dw

It depends on if you are lazy.

B450 good one like the tomhawk is about $150~$170.
X470 mid level is $230 if you need CrossFire.
        X570 entry level is $215 if you need PCIE 4.0 or USB 3.2 Gen2(USB 3.1 Gen2).
Price might be ok if you use 3700X or above.
No point to spend that much on a motherboard if you use 3600. Save the money for a better NVME / GPU.
The good X570 are all overpriced at the moment.

When PCIE 4.0 NVME/GPU is in the normal price for most people to reach, and USB 3.2 Gen2 devices same,
at that time, you might be able to pay $99 to get a X570 or B650.
But you have to rebuild the system, reinstall the OS.

MSI's B450-A Pro is basically the Tomahawk minus USB-C (slightly inferior VRM cooling though), and goes for under $150, often on sale for $115-$130.

        • X570 entry level is $215 if you need PCIE 4.0 or USB 3.2 Gen2(USB 3.1 Gen2).

Could you please share the link of this?

        • Tomahawk has some reported issues with POSTing of which msi has no freaking clue what's causing it from their own reddit sticky thread, the "fixed" edition Tomahawk max got released ready to go with ryzen 3000. It also comes with 32 mb bios so it can support the beefier bios msi is releasing these days, tomahawk just has 16mb and struggles to fit the microcode updates.

With the ebayplus code, I found a tomahawk max board for $165.

      And MSI X570-A Pro $231.20
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MSI-AMD-X570-A-PRO-AM4-ATX-Mothe…

But I heard MSI dropped the ball on X570

  • So FUTU Online belongs to Shopping Express?

    • +1

Yes, so be mindful with warranty claims as they are extremely slow and have been known to ignore basic consumer rights with regards to choice of refund or replacement.

      • Yep, I hate shopping express

        • never had an issue with them.. returned lots of stuff under warranty :)

My future build (waiting on sale) is based on Ryzen 5 2600. Is it worth getting 3600? I use PC for work, general use and occassional gaming. I don't think the benefit justify the price jump but more than happy to be proven wrong and/or told otherwise.

The motherboard is Asus B350F-Gaming ROG Strix updated to the latest firmware (as of 13th of September 2019), I presume it handle the CPU?

    • +2

Let's see what some quick searches will do:

      • CPU: Looking at UserBenchmark and a reddit thread, seems like the 3600 is ~17% better in performance but also ~$100 more expensive.

      • The motherboard looks like it supports either CPU. It's $318 on Amazon, is there a specific reason why you're going for this gaming motherboard and not a more budget-friendly alternative? As a rule of thumb your mobo shouldn't be more expensive than your CPU.

      • If you use the PC mainly for work/general use, I'd suggest the cheaper 2600 :)

EDIT: Oh yeah comment below reminded me to remind you that the Ryzen CPUs don't have integrated graphics, so unless you're planning on getting a GPU you'll have to look at the Ryzens with G at the end.

      • +1

        The motherboard is inherited :P

17% better performance for 34% more price (2600 is $199 and I have eBay Plus - so 268/199 = 1.3467), hard to justify. I have GTX1070 Ti on stand by, also inherited :P

Thanks for the quick research, I did mine too but it's better when verified by another person :)

        • +1

The 3600 uses way less power and in pure gaming 1% lows (the dips in framerates) are like a 50% improvement. Over zen+ thats why gamers are upgrading their zen+ cpus to zen2… if your a gamer you would be crazy to get anything but a 3600 unless you want to wait for the cheaper 3500x that are coming soon.

          • @vid_ghost: I thought FPS is driven by GPU and not CPU?

            • @Blackcat2: Dependent on game, some are CPU bound, others GPU bound.

I am building one soon for my brother, waiting for parts to arrive:
      Ryzen 5 3400G
Gigabyte B450m Motherboard (BIOS already updated, confirmed by FutuOnline)
      Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x8GB) 3200mhz
      Intel 660p 512GB NVME m.2 ssd
Thermaltake Cube V21 micro ATX Case and 450W thermal take PSU.

      I have Ryzen 5 1600, A320m Mobo , 16GB DDR4 3200mhz RAM and Intel 660p SSD.
I would say get Ryzen 5 3600 if you are keen to spend some money on GPU

      • I am building something similar for my dad… are you buying from one store or a bunch of different stores?

        • Bought Ram, intel 660p ssd, psu from Msy.
Thermaltake 21 cube from Amazon $89
Cpu and mobo from futu 20% off sale

RAM is however cheaper on ozbargain post from Amazon US.

  • If you want to spend almost double to get the 8 core 3700X
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/483884

  • Yesterday when I bought and posted the $272.85 one from Wireless 1, this one from Futu was $388!
With the 20% off coupon it was still $310.40.

I assumed they jacked up the price to pocket the 20% off.

Wonder why they dropped it down now…

Anyway, glad to pay $4 more to get it from Wireless 1 instead of Futu.

  • Hello Guys, an off topic question. Do you need an UPS for a desktop in Australia???

    • +1

No, electricity is pretty stable here.

    • +1

      Not really

    • +1

If you're running your disks in RAID in your desktop or if you're doing any tasks where potential data corruption from power outage could make you lose money, then you need a UPS. Otherwise, you're fine without one.

    • Thanks for the replies :)

  • Bought one with amazon ram. tys

looks like they removed the R5 3600? Not showing up in the drop down box when you select Ryzen 5

    • It is for me.

      • yep they just put it back up now

        • Damn it, it's off the list again. I have missed it twice.

  • fml why didn't I buy this last night and decided to sleep on it, now I just have ram LOL

    • It's still available

    • I was in the EXACT same boat. Saw it came back and snapped it up - great starting pieces for a new build at great prices

      • +1

Just got it, what mobo did you go with?

        • I got the MSI B450M Mortar Max ($149).

  • I need a 3900X for $730.

Was just about to buy a new rig, you just saved me $200, thank you.
