  • I shall be able to run this right from the TV box without need an amplifier right?

    • No additional amplifier needed for this set as it’s built in.

  • I saw this one earlier. Still not sure whether it sounds better than my Sonos Playbar setup with the Sub. Then the mixed reviews about setting it up. Also Dolby Atmos apparently only works with the Blue Ray drive, which means I have to start renting discs again. I assume you don't get Dolby Atmos with streaming.

    • Can’t comment on the sound compared to the Sonos, but I have the Q90R and I rate it highly. Setup was simple, I just plugged it into the ARC port on my TV and I was done. My TV supports Atmos passthrough, so I get Atmos using Netflix app and the inbuilt media player.

    • It can still upscale the sound, but yeah usually need to buy a compatible Dolby Atmos player

    • I have the earlier version of this.
I get lossless Dolby Atmos through my Nvidia Shield playing UHD rips, and my Xbox One playing UHD disks.
I get lossly Dolby Atmos through my Apple TV 4K.

So yea, you definitely can get Atmos through streaming, and it sounds fantastic to my ears.

      • I had so much drama getting my N950 to work (I got 2 DOA units but samsung took 142 days to resolve - got there in the end)

The Atmos learning curve was steep.

Apple TV - Only Atmos from Apple Store (And Netflix). Plex on ATV does not support Atmos.
XBox 1 - Only Atmos from Microstofts store. Plex on XBox 1 does not support Atmos.
Nvidia Shield. The star student. Atmos passthrough and a brilliant box. Highly recommended.

As much as I hate Samsung due to all the crap they put me through, once working, the sound is very very good.

PS: This was all as of 6 months ago. Apple/Microsoft might have changed their systems since then. But more than happy with Nvidia Shield.

        • That's all still accurate. Shield is the best for playing 4K backups, but the ATV is better for streaming Netflix and iTunes store stuff.
Also, MrMC can play 4k backups with lossy atmos now, from Plex servers.

That's expensive for a sound bar setup. Call it 7.1 all you want, I'm not getting sound from 7 directions.

At this price surely you're better getting a proper speaker setup…

you can always be assured of a comment along these lins in every good soundbar post.

I keep seeing people say this but everytime I try and find a proper speaker set up for this price I fail to find anything close. For brand new, an amp and two speakers and a sub still sell for a lot more that the $1000 price point. Can you point me in any directions?

      • Yeah you would be hard pressed to build a 7.1 setup for $1k unless going second hand.

        • Second hand speakers audio plummets in value. It's incredibly good value. They either work or they don't. Very easy to pick up. Speakers last forever too.

Fwiw, I'd take an active pair of speakers over lesser quality surround though.

          • @scuderiarmani: I'm the same mate have $6k worth of dali's some people want better sound and some just don't want the big bulk of speakers and cables but it never bothered me.

    • Can't beat the convenience of 4 wireless speakers vs 8 wired ones, especially when renting.

      • This, they have their place. As long as people understand that.

  • I am hesitant to get one of these. I saw reviewers said the sub and surrounding speaker lost the connection sometimes. https://www.samsung.com/au/audio-video/hw-q90r/

    • I had a similar issue with the N950 originally, but haven't in the past few months.

  • Recently got one. Upgraded from older series 5 soundbar.

Don’t have any syncing/connection issues, all working for me.

Dolby Atmos is loud when available. u can stream atmos from prime (jack ryan) and Apple TV 4K..

It’s pretty decent performance and I’m happy with it.
