Do tell me how you plan on buying that today

    • What I am trying to say if you had gotten in earlier, you get a better deal.

        How helpful

        • +1

yes it is.. because if there's been a precident of a lower price set, then it is most likely that that price will be on offer again from the same or another vendor.. especially as we approach prime sales period for the year.

          • @gizmomelb: There's a pretty good chance this will get around $250 on the regular.

Lite rrp is $329, where as the Switch standard is rrp$469. Switch regularly sits at $399, and every second month drops as low as $340-360. Averaging a 70-130 drop.

$250 will be quite reasonable to expect as a regular low price, and getting as low as $229 again, is absolutely reasonable for those top level deals. Hell I'd even throw out a very good possibility off $199 deals, or a $249 with a game deal being a real possibility getting closer to christmas.

Grey and Yellow are $294 on Amazon AU.
    Turquoise is $299.

    Amazon Prime required.

  • Same price on JB Hi-fi website

  • Waiting to see if they've fixed the joystick drift before committing.

    • +1

Early inspection shows it's the exact same parts. Take that for what it is.

  • Catch is selling the Lite for 294 in Turqoise

  • It’s so under appreciated that in Australia, we never pay retail price. Totally unlike most parts of the world, especially USA where you need to add tax after the price you see in store :(.

    • -1

Umm, what most parts of the world? Aus isn’t the only place that get specials on things.

It might be underappreciated that we don’t use imperial units and have health care included in taxes. I guess we just don’t think about other countries’ oddities daily.

Genuine question - why would one buy this instead of a full switch console with the detachable joycons? The saving is under $100, and you lose the versatility and beauty of the switch (dockable), and also can't play anything that needs joycon accelerometer… Am I missing something?

    • +2

      Nope.

    • +2

Because the original Switch has the worst D-Pad in the history of Nintendo and is like carrying a skateboard. Sometimes less is more, get the one that suits you.

    • +6

Pretty sure Nintendo created this more so marketed towards people who stuck with the 3DS due to wanting a more "portable" console. The original Switch is far from being a very portable handheld compared to the 3DS, but the Switch Lite is a fair bit closer.

I'd say it's a good console, but the joycon parts being the same is a real shame…

    • -2

Against the new Switch? It's $150-220+ difference.

I could have purchased 2 lites at $229 with the ebay deal for a bit more than the new Switch. Not really "under $100".

      • +1

Not at all against it - just don't understand it. The current deal is around $300, which is around $100 less than the "usual" sale price of $400 for the full switch - so my question is legit. I agree that $230ish is a much more palatable price if you're losing some functionality, and probably worth it.

        • Nah I just meant against the price of the new switch, not that you got something against it :P Dunno what the downvotes are about, I was just pointing out that people interested in lites are waiting for better differences in price. With the ebay deal, it was $200 lower than the current best price I could find for a new package switch.

But anyway, the bottom line is different people have different requirements man. Also even if it was a $100 difference, that means everything to some people. Everyone has an upper limit. If it was always "just another $100", you could keep stretching it to whatever price you wanted. I mean $100 lower than RRP was the right number for me to buy a lite for example :)

    • Well… to be honest… yes.. you’re missing something. The Switch, although marketed as a console, is essentially the next Nintendo handheld after the 3DS… but it’s still fairly large for a handheld. The lite is a fair bit smaller and lighter (lite’er? :). Which means it’s much more suitable for people who want the handheld portable play - the same people who buy the Vita / 3DS for example. I’m genuinely surprised at the negative comments… it’s designed specifically for portable, and if you want to ‘switch’ to tv play, just stay with the standard model.

    • +1

      Nope.

  • -3

Why didn't you guys buy one for $229 from the ebay deal last week? They didn't sell out right away like I thought they would.

    • +1

people that didn't buy at $229 aren't buy this one neither.

    • -5

And I get the negative votes for pointing that out!

    • Uhm, that was the handheld lite version, this is a console. Different beast.

Edit, my bad, confused with the products.

      • -2

        Is it reeeaaalllyy?

Costco’s usual price is $299.99 for those who have membership and miss this Target deal.

  • -5

This price being considering good makes me think I should have bought one of the $229 ones and flipped it on FB marketplace!

  • +1

I paid less than this for my unpatched original Switch. (Amazon lightning deal plus shopback)

    • Have you patched it since then? :)

      • old Switch cannot be patched, because it's hardware.
