Looking for a Gift for My Girlfriend!

Her birthday is coming up and I was wondering if anyone had ideas. Not really looking for jewellery, budget is around $250-$300.

Hope anyone can help. Thank you so much!

Would love it if my GF does that but she don't!

How do you do it though? Whenever I come across something that the missus might like or if she mentions in passing that she likes something , I have to go out and buy it. I just love the way her almond-shaped eyes widens into big, round saucers and the goofy smile on her face whenever she receives an unexpected present so much , that I can't delay gratification. I have to give it to her on the same day :)

But then, when birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's Day and christmas come around , all I have left to give are homemade pancakes, flowers from the garden and IOUs. Her girlfriends must think I'm the worst husband in the world. :(

      • You aren't in a relationship with her girlfriends. What does she think?

        • +2

Erm.. She loves pancakes in bed, white daisies are her favorite flowers and my wacky drawings on the IOU notes make her laugh. Actually, I don't think she minds:)

        Lift your game

  • Buy a nice birthday card with envelope, put $300 in it and give it to her. Problem solved.

Typically for a birthday I buy things that fall into a category of: would like to have, but can’t justify it.

For me these are some suggestions (if you want to spend more grab a combination of these):

    A nice leather bound notebook
    A nice pen
    Leather desk mat from Etsy
A nice gym bag or even good quality active wear- for her a brand like Lululemon or Lorna Jane may resonate
    airpods
    Bose Bluetooth speaker
    A high quality desk chair
I like cycling - so a nice phone mount for the bicycle
    A power bank
    Dinner somewhere nice
A nice wireless keyboard and mouse set
Some nice shelves in the study (which you install for her)
A smart watch (fit bit versa 2 has Spotify control)
    A nice leather phone case
A nice watch strap for her new smart watch (Etsy is a good place)
An extra phone charging cable for the car
Some nice plain t shirts from uniqlo

    • This list all sounds too "nice" to me.
You seem to have said it 10 x

      • Not nice enough. The power bank isn't nice.

        • Got rice?

    • Nice.

  • Get her some Nike sneakers. Girls love that these days. Or a brand handbag. Don't buy her tech or jewellery

    • She might like tech? And not all girls love Nikes… I would much prefer a tech present than sneakers or a handbag of any brand.

      • How many laptops, desktops, gaming mouse's, mouse pads, chargers and power banks can one have? 1 to 3 at the most. The trend these days are girls wearing casual sneakers with everything from dresses to jeans. Both males and females collect sneakers and leather goods. OP said the gf already has airpods so if she has apple products that limits tech even more to single items for apple

        • Yes, one can own 1-3 computers, 1-3 mouses, 1-3 mouse pads, 1-3 power banks, 1-3 chargers, etc, or even more of those items. I myself, A FEMALE, own multiples of those tech items and others. Just because she owns airpods does not mean she is limted to Apple products either. Just because one has an iPhone and uses AirPods to listen to music on that device, does not mean that is their only device or that they only own products from that brand. I own an iPhone, a Windows laptop and an Android tablet, I am not limtied to one brand just because I own an iPhone. Furthermore, I agree, some people do collect shoes, but not everyone. I do not collect shoes of any kind. Stop generalising and stereotyping just because you've seen a few people do something.

Spa Massage gift voucher always works and will score you great brownie points

Have a look at QT Sydney, The Langham and Shangri-La

  • A gal can't have too many designer accessories! If she's into scarves get her a silk designer one for the max you can afford or if a handbag is too expensive a quality wallet is generally always welcome. Same with other accessories a eg channel purse mirror that is like a compact she can keep in her bag or a set of quality makeup brushes if she is into makeup. Otherwise what about a quality pure wool Australian jumper that would last lots of seasons? You could probably pick up one for a good price since we are moving to winter. And aircon inside stores in Summer is freezing in most cases. Or a Pashima. Or an outfit she would love for what you can afford, so take her shopping. And then there's always perfume. If she likes perfume you can get her a bottle of that of if she's like perfume but doesn't know which one, you can both go on a perfume-smelling outing to check out some and see which she likes (which hopefully you also like :))

  • Nice dinner, a night away, spa treatment - Ella bache maybe or if she gets her hair done a voucher for her salon. Best present is something she wants but is out of her means (has to save).

So much sexism (even from other females, which is sadly very common), just like I expected. How in the actual hell did most of you ever get near a female?

    • +11

How in the actual hell did most of you ever get near a female?

By walking towards them. More steps more closer…

      • Restraining orders are just suggestions anyway.

Please englighten us how you are inundated with females all the time

Get her 7 vouchers to be redeemed on demand ‘anytime, anywhere’ for your ‘super extra performance’ 😅

I did this once and it turned out to be WIN WIN situation, and also got to do it in surprising places I didn’t think she was willing to or even capable of!

    Eneloops.

If this becomes a long term thing, she will definitely find a use for them.

  • Kamasutra book. Make happy be happy

Sorry, but why put so much pressure on one gift?
Doing little thoughtful things is way more romantic, than something that stresses you out and could set you up for potential failure.
Pick her up from uni for a dinner, take her out for brunch on the weekend after your exams, or just pick up her favourite block of chocolate, some drinks and have an impromptu netflix and chill session.

  • All girls is in 😍 with the Dyson Air Wrap but unfortunately it's way above your budget.

    • Broad assumption you've made there. It's this kind of thinking that sets you up for failure

  • Wait till you get married before you spend that sort of money, and by then it would be something useful like a bread maker or rice cooker.

    • +2

Buying a bread maker for a sammich maker sounds perfect.

That is so sweet! I think take her out for something you can enjoy together like a hike, go out on a little day trip for lunch, check out a movie you'd both enjoy, go book/record shopping where you can buy her what she wants then and there - I'm not sure what your tastes are but creating memories together is so much more valuable than things!

For example, my hubby has bought me a lot of gifts over the years and it's the trips and meals we share together that I remember more than things.

But if you'd still like to get her a little something, definitely have a snoop at the shops she likes to spend at and get her a voucher and a little something. If she likes Mecca for example, get her a gift voucher from there to give to her on your daytrip/coffee/movie/lunch etc.

    Hope that helps!

A pink dildo, girls love pink you know

  • Handbag! Find a brand she likes from the usual (facebook likes/insta follows/pinterest pins) and surprise her. She'll think you listen but you just research.

Normally my gf mentions something in passing and I'll make a note, then buy the more upgraded version.

Tell her the budget and take her shopping for the day, along with a nice stop for a drink or meal.

Thirty years ago, a date involved going out for an old fashioned cream bun (get your mind out of the gutter) from the bread shop and sharing a Kirk's lemonade. We didn't have much money, but enjoyed each other's company. They were simpler times, and good times.

    • Nothing to stop you doing that now. Lunch time pizzas were $3 at Dominos today. $2 on some softdrink and there's your date at the park sorted for $5. No $3 pizza on date day? Splurge and spend an extra $2-$5. Still comes in at $10.

  • AirPods

  • Dyson hairdryer

  • instead of buying a gift for one.

I would spend money on doing something together. the experience of doing something together.

nice wine with cheese over nice scenery place near by over the sunset.

  • I once gave my wife a $100 Myer voucher for her birthday… that I was given from work. The first question she said was.. "You got this from work right?" which I admitted to..oh yeah, she's now my ex wife.

    • Bet she still used it though.

    • Inconsiderate ba….

      …rgain!!

    • WTF I would have applauded my husband for the clever frugality and then berated him for not buying new clothes but still being dead pleased about the frugality. Hope you get a better wife.

An account on Ozbargain. The gift that keeps on giving.

    Get her a massage voucher.

Find a massage parlour with blocked out windows and a light up 'open' sign. It's her birthday so make sure you pay extra for a special massage. Try a few places. Once you find a masseuse you like (or her gift money is getting low), buy her a $40 basic massage voucher.

  • Ebay/Wish giftcard you got using POUNDSOFF. Then have a poundoff.

  • Get her a happy rabbit toy.

  • Get a small branded bag like coach which she can carry everywhr & if some of her frnd ask whr she got it ..she wud say its from U👍

  • +2

You all got trolled, OP just wanted to brag about having a girlfriend and has stopped responding after rejecting all early suggestions.

  • instead of buying her a gift, why not just buy a dishwasher and replace her? You'll save more money in the long run too!

  • +2

    Just get another girlfriend

  • crocs pair thats are on sale atm

  • Seems like a fair swap.

  • Haighs. Lots of Haighs
Shared experience from Redballoon (it was horseriding one year in the Hunter Valley - amazing)
    Massage voucher from somewhere fancy
Giant Lush gift pack (tread carefully, Lush divides the masses).
I like tech but get a smartwatch not a fitness band or it might get interpreted the wrong way. Smartwatch needs to be rose gold always.
    Restock her favourite perfume
    Anything from McKean Studio (https://www.mckeanstudio.com/)
A gift voucher for a shop that stocks stuff for her favourite hobby that you think is completely frivolous and a waste of money

  • Why not a night out at a fancy restaurant (6-8 course degustation) and then a nice hotel. Probably more than $300 but you get to enjoy it too. Make sure the next day is free and then have a lie in and enjoy the day with no rush.

  • Great question to ask strangers who have no idea what things your girlfriend likes.

  • Why not jewellery? From big places like Michael Hill, etc, definitely not as too much mark up. But smaller places you can get good prices on decent genuine stuff. I have people buy jewellery/handmade/bracelets from me for gifts often.

  • A sex toy. One of those ones that you can control remotely.

  • Women like resouces. Give her cash, and make it personal by printing a cheap birthday card created in MS Paint, on your inkjet printer.

  • New fry pan

  • Buy ten blue bills and says to her: ‘Honey, I am giving you the experience of been with a porn star times 10 for your birthday ‘

On a serious note get her Pandora and take her there so she can chose herself

  • Buy a new seat comfort is the number one priority

  • Go to the beach and collect some nice shells. On recycled cardboard using environmentally friendly glue spell out “happy birthday darling. I love you’ with the shells.
