Belong has become more strict and is banning people who refer themselves so becareful… you might lose your number without warning.

    • How can they tell?
I have been referring my family members, at same address, which I hope is legit!

Is the problem when multiple new accounts are closed before the initial credit runs out?

      • Yeh I think they tell by address and maybe credit card. So if you sign on too many like 4 or more then to them it seems like you are referring yourself.

I would be cautious if I were you.

I am guessing that they refer themselves AND gift themselves the data to the primary number, so that the other numbers are "unused".

If you are referring to actual people, they will use the phone normally. Calls, texts, etc.

But if people are using it for credit and data gifting, the usage pattern will differ dramatically.

    • I have my referral code saved and listed here on OzBargain - I hope this purge by Belong doesn't extend to that!

should be okay when people sign up using different address and credit cards.

        • what about if someone was on belong like 6-12 months ago port their service away; and they come back.

are they considered a new customer and eligible for the $20 referral?

just checked that the account is still "active" but no service attached to it.

or is starting a new account but with the exact same details except email in order to get that $20 referral considered also "not cool" ?

  • Can anyone verify this?

    • If you are talking about Jaduqimon's comment, I can confirm same thing happened to me and a few others too. I used to be so happy to support Belong, but after that stunt, the risk of losing the number is too much for me and I can no longer recommend Belong.

      • To be fair, referring one's self via shill mobile number registrations was always going to be a risky move.

Agreed but them just shutting down your number immediately with no warning is questionable…

Especially now days where all your logins and 2fas are linked to your number.

          • @Jaduqimon: did you get a refund at least?

            • @karlitos: No they just send me an email and that was it. Number stopped working immediately.

              • +1

@Jaduqimon: that's sounded like a awful move by Belong, you should get a refund regardless.

                • @karlitos: well i did break their TOS, so wasnt expecting a refund but yeh, shutting down a number causes quite alot of trouble these days…

          • @Jaduqimon: Can't disagree with that. Suspending the number would be a better move.

          • @Jaduqimon: Did you use the same email address or other identifiers or what? I only just churned through another belong sim two nights ago so I hope I'm not on the chopping block :/

From the previous comments, people that got banned had at least 4 numbers

          So yeah…..

          ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

          • +2

@annarchon: Yeh not saying that I deserved to not be banned.

I was merely giving people who are thinking of referring themselves a warning in my first post.

@hashtagbargain You can't recommend them because you got caught tricking them out of $20, that's a bit rich.
Now you want them to help port you to another provider. Why should Belong have any loyalty to you when you try to rip them off,
        now that's entitlement for you!!

You can also apply the credit to your existing number using "register replacement SIM".

    • Whoa! Seriously? That sounds extremely interesting. Can I do it with the $80 SIM they sent me with the new NBN service?

      • Done this many times, but don't have the oppotunity to try a $80 SIM.

        • Hi, just checking if I buy 25 sim and "register replacement SIM" through my current number, I will get 25 credit in my current number?

    Shit auto billing. Crap service

  • Can this be used as recharge too, or just new connections only ?

    • SIM has the value preloaded, so new connection only. Where you refer or gift data is up to you.

      • Recharge can be done by doing "register replacement SIM", try it yourself.

        • Not working right away, maybe cause I just transferred across.
And billing cycle doesn't start till the 4th.

Will try again then, otherwise can go the long way.

  • No Volte, No Wifi calling available, just so everybody knows.

Belong is good for kids as once the data is over, you are not hit with exorbitant charges but instead you get unlimited throttled data. It's so frustrating to use phone at low speed, that my kid is now more disciplined in making sure monthly high speed data quota is not exhausted!!

  • They were ok $15 a month with unlimited calls to Philippines but no roaming they must be just about the only provider who don't have international roaming.

  • Can you use this for 6 renewals of the $10 1GB Plan?

  • Can you use the $20 for $40 sim with a referral code to port in your number?
