  • looks like back order .. no stock online

    no 3G… no thanks!

    • +2

I agree, its a lot of money to spend on a device without 3G.

      • and then you spend more on a 3g data plan. no thanks. unless you can tether your data plan on the phone then its a bit much no? e.g the blackberry playbook can do that pretty easily.

This is a pretty good deal if you have wifi near by and looking for a tablet. I mean I've done okay with my wifi-only laptop ;)

but the other posters are right - when you go to check out, it says it's awaiting stock

        • +8

I'd tether it to my phone rather than pay for another plan.

        • +2

I dont think Its worth to get 3G and then pay every month for the plan when You can either tether ur phone or get one of those wireless prepaid 3g modem which can tether like 5 devices..

    • Find me a decent 3G tablet for anywhere near this price.
Personally don't understand why people would even want 3G. Just more money to burn on a data plan. If you own or are looking at something like this, chances are that you already have a phone capable of tethering.

Not as good as the Iconia $400 deal a few weeks ago [which I got, :) ], but still, good deal.

      • "Personally don't understand why people would even want 3G"
Just FYI since you mentioned it; It's more of a work thing for me but other than being able to use the net out and about when there are no hotspots around, having 3G (even pre-paid with no credit) will speed up the GPS connection and functionality enough to make it worth while.

Think about anyone working is the media, I.T., freelance web design, product reps, etc. It's pretty handy being able to connect and know where you're going.

I have one of these and the Xoom. As much as I prefer the Transformer, when I leave the office I usually take the Xoom purely for the fact of connectivity. You'd be very surprised how handy it can be.

Though I do understand that for most people a mobile phone will cut it just fine.
facebook, movie times, bus timetable, taxi/restaurant number, etc.

  • is this the model with the docking station keyboard??

  • Can get it from Amazon for $405 delivered, or $430 for express shipping (2-5 working days)

    • Worth it, seeing as you'd get no warranty?

      • Worth it, seeing asUS providing global warranty.

        • Worth it , As I could just walk in store and pick this today while you wait for your one !!

        • Worth it, $68 is worth a wait. You can have your tablet a few days earlier while i enjoy some coffee with the extra cash.

        • I see what you did therrr!!!

  • i think your post is misleading.i do not think 16 GB model come with docking station keyboard.only 32 GB model have.

    • -1

That's right, only 32gb version comes with the dock.

      • Neither of them come with the dock unless the retailer sells them together.
Asus package it separately and then retailers sometimes bundle it. It's not model specific and you'll always get them in separate boxes.

  • Anyone know if the iPad 2 or EEEpad can natively play h264 MKV files?

Missus wants a tablet for watching video but since she has a crappy dual PC she doesn't want to spend time converting the videos.

    • Ipad 2 supported video formats:

      H.264 video, up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

      MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

Motion JPEG (M-JPEG), up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

So no for the ipad. From what I tell the transformer has somewhat limited .mkv capability natively. Ie. max 720p and no AC3 or DTS support.

      • but you could download apps to play others(i have VLC media player—> I think it is now removed from app store)

    • There is a app call avplayer, try that one, if still can't do then 99.9% answer is no.

  • Price come down so quick!

    • Probably because the 3G versions are due out about now.

  • What makes you think it comes with the dock?

  • -6

This is EP101 not TF101. EP101 may use TN screen.

    • JB Hifi website says IPS panel.
      Don't tell me, TL:DR?

    • dumb question .. whats the difference ?

why is one better than the other?

      • I think EP101 means it comes with the dock, but I very much doubt this deal is with the dock, no store in the USA sells it this cheap.

That's probably why the OP thought it comes with the dock.

        • Yeah I wasn't sure that EP101 means with the dock as I just Picked the link from jb thinking its the tablet only !!

    • +2

      Wrong.

EP101 (Eee Pad) was the pre-release model number. Became the TF101 (Transformer) when the unit was released as the "Asus Transformer Eee Pad".

The EP101/TF101 has an IPS screen.

  • -5

tf101 is with dock and has 32gb memory
    this is pad only

    • +5

Wrong. The TF101 is the model number prefix for both 16GB and 32GB variants, both WITH and WITHOUT keyboards.

      TF101-1B174A (EU 16GB w/dock)
      TF101-1B175A (EU 32GB w/dock)
      TF101-1B181A (EU/DE 32GB tablet only)
      TF101-1B033A (EU 16GB tablet only)
      TF101-1B050A (EU?)
      TF101-1B052A (EU?)
      TF101-A1 (US 16GB tablet only)
      TF101-A2 (US 16GB w/dock)
      TF101-B1 (US 32GB tablet only)
      TF101-B2 (US 32GB w/dock)
TF101-1B179A (AU 16GB tablet only) <— As being sold by JB HiFi here
      TF101-1B180A (AU 32GB with dock)
      TF101-1B020A (TW 16GB tablet w/dock)
      TF101-1B022A (TW 16GB tablet only)

      • I'll 2nd this regarding the TF101-A1, B1, A2 and B2.
(The rest of it should be right too, I've just not come across that yet :P)

  • -2

I'd rather buy the US model for the price.

    $399 16gb (TF101-A1) http://www.frys.com/product/6575513
    $499 32gb (TF101-B1) http://www.frys.com/product/6575523

But I'm waiting for the 3G ones. Taking SOOOO long :(

Why Don't You just Go to US and Please leave australia and their Retailers …
I've seen more than 5 negative comments from you and I cannot understand why are you this negative..

      • Ah… and WHERE are these neg comments?

      • -1

        Translation of niksrulz:

"I'm butthurt because you don't like my bargain"

(Insert verbal abuse to make you like my bargain)

        • lol i didn't even realise it was their deal. Not that it matters but yeah.

    • have you ordered from Frys before? they any good ?
i cant figure out how much international delivery is :(

  • +1

i got one the other day from jb for $470…
took it home had a play with it and found that they gave me a 32GB
    :D
im gonna get my self a pocket wifi for $49, and between that and my HTC I have 3G with telstra..
IMO i dont think its work spending $200+ for a 3g version, when you will be using more battery as 3G kills your battery more than wifi.

  • +1

i lulz at you all while posting from my asus ep121
