Acer Aspire D257 Netbook @ $199

80

Hi Pals, bought two Acer Aspire D257 Netbooks from one of the Retravision outlet on Saturday (9th July) and one today.

I think 199AUD is a good deal for a basic netbook, this netbook comes with a 3 cell batter (not 6 cell)

Try your luck…

My FIRST post, verify before you make any decision

  • I got one at this price last Oct - it's been great, especially with Lubuntu dual boot

    • if this is $199 10 months ago, now it should worth $100-150

    • $199 almost a year is a very good price I guess

      I thought 199 is a good price and picked up 3 :(

  • Isn't this the same as this post?
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47866

How were you able to get it to $199

Unfortunately when I click on the link it says $249

    • It still says $249, fortunately when I checked the product was out of stock…

I did a followup and luckily this time it was more cheaper ;)

      • Im not sure if its the same post, but I got one from the last poster at OW price match, and I got a 6 cell D257 for $235. An extra $35 is worth for the larger capacity battery IMO.

Try an OW price match, you may even get the 6 cell D257 for $199 - 5%. Worth a try.

        • Tried it but failed :(

by the time I reached OW, people there had discovered that there was mismatch in the models offered…

Retra vision offers 3cell battery and OW offers 6 cell battery…

  • OP good find - which Sydney Outlet did you purchase them from?

    • Bought it from Kingsford Retravision

  • Is this the dual core version?

    • Yep, works a hundred times better the single core. Good netbook. I took back the D255e single core as it was too slow.

      • Slower than an ASUS with single core processor?

(Maybe I'm just not as sophisticated or don't use the same S/W as you do, but I do heaps of useful stuff with an N455 based ASUS, even at work.)

Maybe ASUS has done a good job with their energy-saving, speed-controllable "Super Hyper Engine" and Acer hasn't licensed that H/W…?

  • I'm happy to see that this N570 dual core netbook is being offered in rural AU, but are there any RetraVision shops in Adelaide, as I drive through?

PS You can always upgrade the battery, I think. (For ASUS, a 6-celler can cost ~ AU $30, including shipping from HK. 'dunno if they're the same as ASUS supplies, though. 'dunno if Acer netbook batteries are same price, but why wouldn't they be, from aftermarketeers ;-)

    • Generic replacement batteries from HK are always inferior and suffer poorer performance than their genuine counterparts.

  • Very good deal, I would bought 3 my self.
Dear OP any chance you can upload the receipt? Thanks.
