  • Anyone know if these are ok to serve a Vegetarian?

    • Should be. Back doesn't mention any traces of meat.

      • -3

Is it Halal? I remember other packaging at some Asian groceries has Halal logo and its the same brand iirc

        • Can't see any Halal stamp, however the Nongshim logo repeats 5 times on entire one packet of noodles.

        • If it’s vegetarian, it’s Halal by default.

            • +3

@RSmith: There is no Muslim prohibition on vegetables, so all vegetarian food is regarded as Halal.

Some veggie products add the logo as a marketing exercise, but it’s unnecessary.

              • -1

                @[Deactivated]:

The term halal is particularly associated with Islamic dietary laws, and especially meat processed and prepared in accordance with those requirements.

So vegetarian food is neither halal nor haram.

                • +2

                  @RSmith: Halal just means “permissible”.

In terms of food, much of it just gets its certification by not having any meat (or meat-derived products) in it at all.

If you see instant noodles with a halal logo, it doesn’t mean they were prepared any differently, it just means they’re intended for distribution in a market with a significant Muslim population, and they want to reassure them they haven’t used pork fat or anything like that in preparation.

You often see both a “vegetarian” and “halal” logo, which is entirely redundant, since vegetarian food is all halal.

                  • @[Deactivated]: The halal scam sending money to terrorists has been exposed already.

                    • @DingdongMcGee: Just like saying giving money to church is supporting pedo.

Some people need to get their info from the right sources, not FB page ‘boycott halal’🙂

                  • @[Deactivated]: False. If there’s alcohol then it’s not halal, eventhough it’s vegetarian. Same thing with vegan.
                    Wine is vegan/vegetarian, right?!
Still have to check the ingredients.

          • @[Deactivated]: Nope if it contains alcohol.

            • @brongz: I’m not sure that any brands of instant noodles have booze in them. Nor many packaged foods in general.

              • @[Deactivated]: There are some Taiwanese instant noodles in a bowl that has a small cooking wine sachet. They're the expensive ones and I remember I paid $4 for one but it was tasty.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Not saying about noodles per se. But assumption that vegan/vegetarian is automatically halal isn’t right.

    • +1

Seems ok. Refer to the ingredients here:

Made in Korea ones are vegetarian friendly. Made in USA have beef in it. Coles and Woolies ones should be the Made in Korea ones.

      • never seen the made in USA 1, mostly made in Korea or China

    • They have vegetarian version which is in green packet.

  • Taste ok but I feel so thirsty every time I eat these.

    Is it just me?

    • +5

Instant noodles all contain a significant amount of salts (primarily sodium chloride and monosodium glutamate). These will dehydrate people. Some of these brands have more salt than others, and thus make one thirstier than other brands.

    • These have 1,790mg of sodium.

The National Health and Medical Research Council has set an ‘Adequate Intake’ of 20–40 mmol (460–920 mg) of sodium per day. This corresponds to 1.15–2.3 grams of salt. Most Australian adults have a daily salt intake of about 10 grams, i.e. many times the maximum value of the Adequate Intake range. A ‘Suggested Dietary Target’ of 1600 mg of sodium (equivalent to about 4 grams of salt) has been set for Australian adults. This is about half the average Australian adult’s current salt intake.

The website you posted is food industry advertising created to sell you unhealthy dairy and wheat based products while pretending to be conveying "nutritional" information.

Most Australians are controlled by commercial and Government created propaganda and have no idea like this.

      • +1

That website is a load of bs.

To reduce blood pressure and lower the risk of heart disease, the Heart Foundation recommends adults eat less than 5g of salt (2000mg of sodium) a day. That’s less than a teaspoon a day.

Although point taken that you can't eat anything else salty after these which is pretty stupid.

        • +1

That website is a load of bs

          Why?

It was an easy way of getting The National Health and Medical Research Council's figures.

          • @spaceflight: we need salt to bring out flavor, without it food is boring, and food is life!

      • The evidence for lower salt intake having any benefits is extremely weak:

    • Put more water in?

    • Most Asia noodles I put in a quarter/half the seasoning packet in and for me is a good balance of flavour and saltiness.

  • I like Coles brand noodles since I think they're salted so you can eat them like chips if you don't have access to boiling water. The Maggi ones were boring. But maybe they were stale so don't take my word for it.

  • +1

I got one two weeks ago in coles at this price.

  • +4

I bought shitcoins in 2018 and now have to live on this sh*t for life.

  • got two boxes from woolies last deal

  • I recommend the Kimchi one which tastes much better than the original flavour.
    (and better for hotpot)

  • Tried these. Samyang tasted much better!

    • -2

Samyang don't have a taste. The excess chili makes your tongue numb and you can't taste anything afterwards.

      • +1

No, there are many varieties in Samyang too, and I am used to eating very spicy food and I dont find them very spicy. Hence, I enjoy to the taste.

      • Samyang does not just have hot chicken flavour.
Samyang black bean noodles and cheese noodles are great as well.

  • Nice. May be blasphemous but I wish they were slightly less hot 😂 my spice game is not good enough to eat more than one, in a sitting.

    • It's probably for the best that you don't eat more than one in one sitting!

      • Especially when one has enough sodium for an entire day

    • We buy homebrand noodles and mix them in (without the seasoning) to make it more mild. I sweat just looking at tomato sauce, let alone chilli's lol

    • If you prefer it a little less spicy, then crack a raw egg into it when boiling the noodles. For some reason an egg will slightly reduce the spiciness without reducing flavour.

  • +1

Jin ramyun FTW for me Shin ramyun lost their flair a million years ago

    • Yeah Jin ramyun is good. Also gud that they have a mild version too for when i dont feel like eating too spicy

    • This guy knows his korean instant noodles.
Shin ramyun used to be good but now it tastes like crap. Jinramyun with egg is miles letter.

  • can people confirm if this deal is nation wide or reaches further then just VIC? cheers,

      My local at normal price

I have not tried these but I think that mi goreng still taste the best out of all the spicy noodles.

Although I really wanna try the nuclear fire hot ones I see on a lot of mukbangs.

I still feel like indomie mi goreng are still the best in the business better than nongshim.. but I will have to try these some day to really make the comparison test.

    • Mostly it's the superior noodles which makes these better, also the much more intense flavour sachet makes more tasty soup. Plus the dry herbs-n-stuff sachet adds visual appeal if nothing else. I use these to make a little hot-pot/ramen with whatever else I have available and these noodles are more dense and hold together much better.

Though if it was just cooked/drained noodles with packet only seasoning I prefer the taste of generic indomie mi goreng also. But that's partially due to the delicious Orangutan killing seasoning oil which comes with the cheap stuff… and it makes me sad that I love it.

    • Which spicy indomie goreng are you referring to?

Indomie Mi Goreng Hot & Spicy Instant Noodles 5 Pack
        400g everyday product

But I like the normal one too

        • That is not spicy.

Look for Hype Abis Ayam (chicken) Geprek. It is the spiciest mi goreng ever. I see you are in Sydney, you may find this noodle in Asian shop, next to Coles in Merrylands stockland mall.

          https://www.minimeinsights.com/2019/02/02/indomie-taps-into-…

          https://youtu.be/yM44rjf-lqM

Edit: there are also Mi Goreng Rica Rica and also Aceh flavors, but I haven't found these yet locally.

          • @Yummy: It is not the spiciest I agree but for me it is more than enough my spicy days are over but watching the mukbangs gets me curious especially for the nuclear varieties.

Ok I will check out your recommendations hopefully they are tasty enough as I don't like bland flavours and honestly have a very picky palette for example I don't like ramen or miso soup and even some lakes brands are flavourless which is why I go for mi goreng.

Btw any ideas how spicy on the scoville scale the geprek one is?
