Why use a dual band as a WISP router/repeater? Here's some test figures from my experiences:
Connect directly to the source router (standing right next to) @ 2.4 GHz 46Mb
Connect directly to the source router (at the "extreme" of the house) @ 2.4 Ghz 30Mb
WISP to source router on 2.4Ghz and connect to AR750s LAN on 2.4Ghz 22Mb (yes it's lower but I'm now on my own subnet for security)
WISP to source router on 2.4Ghz and connect to the AR750s LAN on 5Ghz 45Mb (fast and secure)

So WISPing on one band and LAN on another makes a big difference to throughput. Handy if you're using one of these as a WiFi repeater/range extender/VPN passthrough or similar at home.

p.s. I'd suggest updating to their "testing" firmware as it appears to be more stable than their stable (shipped) release

  • Aren't those speeds slow for gigabit ethernet?

  • Not for a Telstra 50 service…. 😉

    • So if i had a 400mbp service what speeds would I get for connecting a laptop through wifi and/or ethernet?

  • Does anyone here have the GL-AR750S?
Sorry to spam but I'm having MAJOR difficulty here.

Plug device directly into a spare ETH port on my router, specifically so it's nice and stable source connection.
Connect via Wifi, BAM wifi drops out.
    Wait 2 minutes
Connect via Wifi, it might work for a minute, BAM wifi drops out.

Wifi just keeps on dropping out, over and over and over and over.
I tried 3 diff power supplies, I tried 2 USB cables, 3 firmware?

It's in "router" mode, not AP or Extender.

    Here's the idiotic thing.
If I get the 750S to connect to my home wifi connection, and re-share the connection (same mode, router mode) it's a little more reliable - but that's obviously receiving and then re-sharing wifi, it should be more reliable via WAN port (?!)

Has anyone else seen any weird behaviour?

  • Latest firmware?

Is it close to your "source" router? Are the WiFi channels clashing with your "source" router?

    • I think I set the channels to auto.

I'm going to play a few more times tonight before I return, but it had issues at work at home (work, it's 10M from Wifi, home it's 2M from Wifi)

      • Hit it with the latest firmware if it isn't. Give it a hard reset and see how it goes :)

        • This video is "unlisted" because I'm not trying to name and shame here - but I'm pretty over this.

Disconnect and wifi disapears for 30 to 180 (!!!) seconds.

All firmware, 2 USB cables, multiple power adapters, this is faulty, surely?

          • @hamwhisperer: Yeah looks stuffed :(
