Netatmo Welcome Indoor Security Camera $247, Netatmo Presence Outdoor Security Camera $347 @ David Jones (Click & Collect Only)

Best prices I've seen for Netatmo Welcome and Netatmo Presence, also good prices on weather station accessories.

I can highly recommend the Netatmo Welcome indoor camera, mostly for no monthly account fees and the very smart software (and getting smarter with regular updates pushed to the camera). It records alerted events to the supplied MicroSD card and online to a Dropbox account or FTP server. It has 1080 recording, night vision, facial recognition, pet recognition, manual or auto monitoring (using facial recognition or mobile geolocation to tell if you are at home), and sends alerts to any mobiles you designate. Lots of settings all controlled by the app (Android and iPhone). I installed it in the kitchen/dining/sitting room to detect burglars and monitor our cat if we go away for a weekend, or the cat minder if we go away for longer. About the only thing it lacks is a siren to scare off burglars - Netatmo has just announced one that links to the camera, but who knows when or if it will be on sale in Australia.

I don't own the outdoor camera, though I'm tempted. Again, lots of features and great software, and includes a security light, meaning it can be easily installed if replacing an existing security light. It is pricey, though $347 is a big discount on the usual $499 RRP.

You could also try price matching at Australian Geographic stores, which stocks them instore. They matched a JB online sale for me ($299 for the Netatmo Welcome back in January).

  • Based on past experience with the weather products I wouldn't touch anything from Netatmo. Their products are poorly designed and built and from what I've read the security products are no exception.
