Dumbfounding LDV Experience with Loaner Car

https://imgur.com/a/LToKONL

After 3 attempts to fix an issue on a brand new car (G10 Exec which is a 9 seater), they sent us this email.

They want to take the car for an unknown amount of time to diagnose, and give a loaner car. Which is fine in some circumstances, but why would they offer a 5 seater in place of a 9 seater???

Not looking for any response but just an interesting experience with LDV.

They probably don't have a 9 seater on loan.

Not good form but not sure if anything can be done about it.

Ask them to give 2 and a driver

  • If you need the 9 seater ask for the 9 seater. This will just be their standard loaner car. As annoying as the downgrade is they are out one loaner car whilst they fix yours, it does give them some incentive. Maybe it is time you talked to them about a replacement new vehicle seeing they are having trouble with fixing this one. I would tell them “if the car is not fixed by “x” date I want a new replacement vehicle”. worth a try. Good luck with the car.

Props to them for trying to do the right thing.

Would you be able to live without the 9 seater for a short time? If you genuinely need it (eg you have 7 kids) then go in and talk to them respectfully and see what they can do. Maybe they will only need it for a day or 2 then can give a more comprehensive assessment of how long you would need it for. Im sure there is some arrangement you will be able to come to

    • We had a ford with another mechanical issue, and ford have just agreed to give us a brand new car. The first one with issues only had 3.5k on the odo, but the loaner already has 5k and counting. Both these vehicles started with less than 20 clicks on the odo.

The only issue is that you never know when the issue can be fixed. In this example we had the ford loaner for about a month and still no ETA on the original car.

If we downgrade from 9 to 5 (we regularly use 6, sometimes 8), it will really be an inconvenience having to double our vehicles all the time. And if it looks a similar situation with the Ford we will push for replacement or refund.

Buys cheap car with poor local support.
Get upset at poor local support.

Ive dealt with a Chinese car company here. They have no idea what they are doing, and send vehicles into production with known issues, e.g. engine ecu isn't 100% compatible with body ecu and transmission ecu. Their failure amount is astronomical.

Looks like it might be scoot to school week.

    • School holidays are on, it’s stay at home week :P

    • send kids to Singapore?

  • I know it probably says Bobby, but I like to assume that it says Booby.

I guess I'll be the first to say it. LDV…why?

    • Granvia is taking forever to come out.

      • Tarago? Carnival? Etc?

        • Ever tried to fit 8 adults in a Tarago/Carnival?

          • @ATangk: I've had 7 in a Tarago with no problem. Sounds like you need a hiace commuter.

            • @brendanm: Actually had one before, but high roof was always an issue. Spackbase says the granvia comes in 2-2-2-2 arrangement, so that might be the way forward.

  • Do they acknowledge that there is an issue with your car? Did you reply to that email to query why they are not replacing like for like?

    • They wish to continue diagnosing. They've pulled and replaced the entire troubled unit from a working car and it still doesn't work.

      • So they have not been able to replicate the fault so far?

        • 100% replication. Just cant find the cause of the fault.

          • @ATangk:

Just cant find the cause of the fault.

That is unacceptable. You and your family shouldn't be inconvenienced while they try to figure out what is wrong with the brand new car that they sold you.I would push for a 9 seater as a replacement car. If they can't or refuse to provide one, I would either ask for a brand new car , a refund or get Fair Trading involved.

@[Deactivated]: We have requested that they be the ones to deliver the courtesy car and take this one back themselves, and if the issue isn't remedied within an appropriate timeframe, then asking for a replacement or refund.

  • They have certain demo's and it's unlikely they have a 9-seater licensed, and unlikely they'd demo one just for 1 singular customer.

    • We drove a demo 9 seater tho…

      • New car demo isn't the same as a service loan vehicle.

Did you buy your car from that dealer?

        • Same dealer that we tested the demo from.

          • @ATangk: Bought your current LDV from them?

            • @spackbace: Yea, but the loaner might be coming from head office whatever that means.

  • I was once offered a loan car when our new car wasn't available on time, I started to whinge until it was explained it was equivalent, just as new, with all the features. They were happy, well didn't complain at least, for me to do a 5000 km road trip in it. And I'm pretty sure I went through a toll and they didn't send a bill for that either.

I think it's reasonable to ask for at least equivalent.
