It was a very sought after watch, the blue is kind of special. The price is excellent.

Does it look (looks of the watch ) appealing to all ? At least not to me

    • +5

its the classic turtle shape from the 70's… it looks fine to me except for the hardlex thing

if you dont "get" the style then its not for you

    • +1

Photos don't really bring out the shape - the crown stands well out from the case and the case itself is curved. It's a bit clearer in this review (https://monochrome-watches.com/seiko-prospex-srpa21-padi-tur…). I have the model used in the review and it's probably my favourite auto.

    • +3

      I much prefer the Samurai.

    • +3

Not a fan of the turtle case here but the promo 'photos' always make watches look way worse.

  • Needs more bezel

  • The blue in the review photo looks vastly different to the nice blue on the shop photo.
    Shame.

    • Are you sure you're looking at the same watch, that's the PADI edition

      • The first review that appears, from a 'Dragan A.' shows this watch as worn on a wrist. And the blue looks different, particularly the bezel which looks WAY lighter than the beautiful, deep, almost grayish-blue in the product pic.

        • It's possible that it's due to the photo editing. Professional photographers edit on calibrated monitors. If you edit on an uncalibrated monitor, the pictures can be edited incorrectly. And, of course, you can purposely saturate colors etc. Basically you can't trust any photos (or video) on the internet for color accuracy.

    • It's probably a newer model that he was reviewing. This one? https://www.starbuy.com.au/seiko-save-the-ocean-2019-edition…

You may not need OzBargain then, most of things we bought through here is not necessary.

i don’t always carry my phone , when i get home i just leave it on the coffee table and unless it rings i don’t touch it,and i sure am not taking phone out of my pocket or bag to look at the time.

      • Yep, me too. It's a tool and that's it.

      • same here, there is too much smartphone addiction as it is

    • Yeah try telling pool life guard what you need a watch for when you can get the time from your phone.

      • +4

lol a $329 seiko isnt bling like at all… its like saying a new Toyota Corolla is 'bling'…

further there are some facilities i work at where a phone isnt allowed, ie. military.

        • same in some data centres as they worry you will take pictures of their security systems.

also not cool using phone in public pool change rooms ….people will think you are filming them or their kids.

    • +3

I keep my phone wedged in my butt crack so it's not always easily accessible.

      That's why i wear a watch.

    • +3

So your phone has infinite battery charge to tell the time? Sure your phone can tell the time at 200m under the water when need too right? Typical mobile phone addict comment who has no appreciation to other things on life.

    • Depends if you're a watch guy or not. I wear my non-smart watches as jewellery. I use a Garmin Fenix when I'm at work (field based tech job)

Watches are more than just functional time telling devices. They're really good accessories to tie in your outfits. The fine engineering to such pieces are really quite beautiful and the intricacies of all the components which make a watch unique is what watch lovers enjoy.

Mind you, not all people feel this way, and I suppose that's your prerogative too, but there are plenty of people who do.

      • Don't think bellyup is a sophisticated type of guy.

  • +3

it’s a good price considering where a dollar has fallen to.

    • Yeah it's a pretty good price for this model. I bought two of the gold bezel model for 250 each early last year. That was an awesome price. I think the turtle Mini is awesome price too at $350.

    Youtube review here https://youtu.be/BJ2NuMLfAkI

  • And purchased! I couldn't help myself :D

Looks like it took you a full 10 hours to crack…

      • I did try resisting but in the I do like watches and enjoy a good deal :)

  • This or a new seiko 5?

    • +1

This has a better movement (4R36 vs 7S26), but you can get a (non-diver’s) Seiko 5 for around a third of the price.

So just go with what you like the look of. I like small, clean-looking watches, so it’s Seiko 5 all the way for me.

      • The new seiko 5s are 4r36

  • Sort of off topic. But does anyone know why citizen is starting to release more automatic watches and moving away from from eco drive?

    Thanks!

There is a great review here as well. The certificate says site is unsafe but it's a proper site.

    • Thanks, much better than the half-hour YouTube review.

  • Very nice watch and deal and i couldn't resist to buy a watch at a very good price, Though i must say their customer service is horrible , the guy i spoke to didn't even want to answer any questions, maybe he is having a bad day because i read a lot of good reviews about them but yeah that service was probably the worst i've had for buying a watch, I have never shopped there before at their their shop so i wanted to ask a few things about readjusting and if my details were correct etc. he basically told me to find out about it myself

Dog narnit! I got mine today and the dial isn't centered! Grrr

    • Send it back. Not worth the effort otherwise. Seiko have very loose QC and will say it is within tolerance level.

  • Has anybody else got theirs yet?

  • These are Aussie stock and not in Japanese.

    From the website:

3 year Australian manufacturers warranty. StarBuy are Authorised online stockists of Seiko Watches. All Seiko Watches are shipped with local and an international manufacturers warranty, an instructions manual and in Seiko original packaging.

My band is adjusted and I'm happily wearing mine at the moment. The chapter ring out of alignment is more common than not apparently (heaps in the jewellers have the same problem).

    Cheers

  • I got mine and I noticed that the dial is misaligned by around 2mm. I'm not happy. Seiko QC is not what it used to be. Writing back to get a full refund.

    • See pics of mine here in the thread I started on the issue. It's apparently very common.

      • so did you get it replaced or returned?

        • Neither. Keeps great time (5 secs a day) so I'll get Seiko to realign under warranty. Should be an easy fix going by Seiko forum comments and recommendations.

      • Mate, that would do my absolute head in!

One of my recent Seikos has the chapter ring misaligned less than yours and I refuse to wear it. The watch is over $1k. I probably won’t go down the warranty path and I’ll pay a watchsmith to correct it and probably glue it in place. Seiko won’t really be interested - sometimes their promo shots are misaligned 🤣. I might just flip it and rebuy.

However, I own and have flipped several micro brand watches and they have all been absolutely perfectly aligned and spot on. Being small and producing small batches, their reputation is more at stake.

By the way, there are literally thousands of photos and stories online like yours. In fact, if you get a perfectly aligned Seiko diver it’s said to be a QC error.

Please post back with how you get on with your warranty claim, I’ll be very interested to see how they respond.

This clip will show you how it all works: https://youtu.be/kPXY1716CJo

        • Will do. This watch I have though keeps excellent time.

          • @Homerlovesbeer: I'm returning mine. I buy this watch not only because of its ability to keep time - my phone does that well already :-). I buy it because of its supposedly good workmanship and style as well. If those fail, then no point keeping it.

            • @solitude: Well I bought a second one for Dad and it's perfect. Funny thing is, he would never notice the chapter ring being off (if it was). Tempted to swap with him but I would feel bad about that :)

It's not a hard fix to realign the chapter ring so I'm hoping Seiko do it under warranty.
