For some one who is looking for a decent gaming laptop, this is a wise choice. A great price for a RTX2060 gaming laptop. Although it only have i5 instead of i7, you won’t have much frame loss when gaming. Also, memory and SSD are quite cheap these days, you can spend $150 to upgrade it to 16G/512SSD for a better gaming experience.

The only drawback is its display, it’s not 120hz.

Let’s make it ozbargined!

Not sure why you was down voted, but around 10% for laptop versions is about what I've seen too.

For those on a lower budget, the G3 for $919 on eBay with code POLLEN20 is hard to beat.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-G3-15-3579-Gaming-…

    • Wish I pulled the trigger when this was $919

      • +8

        It is $919 now. POLLEN20.

        • Oh wow it's lowered more since I posted

          • @aeon05: Sooooo. Did that trigger get pulled yet?

            • +6

@orly: Well, it did pull mine

    • Only compromises about the G3 is it is a bit chubby and heavy.

      • you mean this g7 is smaller than g3?

        • Not smaller but more refined.

The G7 just got a refreshed body while the G3 is still using an older body.

        • Just a general comment on the dimensions and weight of the G3 itself especially being 2.5kg was a deal breaker for me when I was considering it. I ended up getting a MSI PS63 which is 16mm thick and weighs 1.6kg and a large 82WHR battery.

          • @orly: For how much did guy get the MSI PS63 ?
            Pros / cons?

            • @bashar20: There were few discussion about it if you search ps63 you'll find them on the other thread

            • @bashar20: I got it for $1529 with the GTX 1050 Ti card 4GB, core i7, 512GB SSD. There are a few variations and cheaper ones which come with integrated graphics but for my use, this hit the sweet spot. Stacked with the incredible nearly 20% ebay gift cards and claiming TRS while I'm traveling overseas with a friend made it too good to pass up.

Pros: weight, dimensions, portable, battery life, performance, track pad, aesthetics are very classy and looks professional, silent fans and cooling system

Cons: speakers are really soft, graphics card isn't the best from a benchmark POV, other proper gaming laptops have better specs for the same price point (but none have the same form factor and battery life)

              • @orly: When claiming TRS, are we allowed to bring the laptop back?

                • +2

@ar7ist: You have an allowance of $900 per passenger if you want to bring it back without declaring it, however, as I'm traveling with a friend, the total is $1800 limit without needing to declare. If you declare it, then you'll need to repay the GST portion.

                  • @orly: Isn't allowance pooling only valid for families?

                    • @ar7ist: Friend with benefits ;) we are in a de facto.

    • What's the main hardware difference between the G3, G5 and G7 series?

      WARNING.

I just pulled the trigger on this, THEN noticed the delivery date of 6 Nov - 13 Nov. WTF.

Will see if I can cancel. Sigh.

      What Hz display on g3?

  • Damn shame on the display though, anyone knows a good affordable gaming laptop with 120 or 144hz? Looking for one below $2000

    • ROG Scar III G531GU often goes on sale for less than 2000 on ebay. It has a 144hz display but a 1660ti.

    • +1
    • I know that for my 'ancient' dell 7567, I can buy an aftermarket 120mhz screen for less than 200 dollars. If your keen, look at changing it yourself. There are guides on youtube for most models.

      • +5

Wow! Less than $200 for a screen that can run at 120000000Hz and fit in a laptop? I didn't know that existed!

  • +5

How on earth they don't chuck a 120hz+ for a gaming laptop with 2060 beats me

  • +4

What are people's thoughts on Razor Blade 15.6? A mates friend is moving back to China, 2 months old and said I could have it for 1k. It looks powerful but screen is only 60hz. They're 2.5k new, however it's a early 2019 model so I understand New stuff is always coming out.

    Specs:
    Intel Core i7-8750H 2.2GHz (9M Cache, up to 4.10 GHz) Six Core CPU, 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) 60Hz Display, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Max-Q Design Video Card, 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD + 2TB (5400rpm) HDD, 16GB DDR4 SODIMM Memory

    • +7

      DO IT!

    • +3

Razer blade is nice. But price is outrage usually

    • +1

If you don't want to buy then I'll get pick it up for 1100?

      • And Im happy to pickup at 1111

    • +1

Don't walk, RUN! Two months old and $1K for a razor blade is cheap.

      • I don't game, so that's why I wasn't sure. All I read was 60hz screen isn't great!

I'll definitely pick it up, however if I decide not too by Tuesday will PM everyone else interested with their details.

        • If seller in Adelaide, Im not interested…. Too far

        • 60hz is normal for all laptops. A higher refresh rate panel commands a big premium. If you don't game, 60hz is absolutely fine. For 1k, you should jump on the blade now. It's a well built, beautiful and highly competent all rounder of a laptop and is usually the most expensive one because it ticks so many boxes with an A grade. Even if you do game, so what if it's 60hz? You got it for a grand. And even if you paid more, who cares? People on here want the best but pay only 7 bucks for it.

Far out if you don't buy it, I will.

You could buy it from the recent eBay sale, and upgrade it on your own.

      • Ohhhhh. I should of read the entire sentence.

  • How loud is the fan at idle? (surfing the web)

This is interesting but I worry about how annoying the fan may be.

    • +5

      Shung?

    • Very loud and gets very hot when playing games. You need a cooler pad for this laptop

    • Prior to getting this I've only used macbooks. This is louder than a macbook but still pretty quiet while idle. Loud when playing video games but the reviewers rated it as quieter than other laptops around this price range.

It does have thermal throttling though and it gets hot so good to get a laptop cooling pad.

2060 seems overkill for a 1080p 60Hz display. I guess somewhat "future proof" considering the low resolution/refresh rate. Or you can hook up a monitor to it.

    • It did have the option to upgrade to OLED UHD or 144Hz screen, but they've taken those options away now. Maybe all the stock has been taken?

  • Why is the 17 pricier than the 15. I’d jump on this if that was the 15”

  • +1

Where is the 512gb nvme drives and 16gb ram for $150

    • You could buy it from the recent eBay sale, and upgrade it on your own.

      • LauWong, 2019
  • Can this output 144hz to a different panel if not using the screen?

    • +1

It has HDMI 2.0 so if the monitor supports 144Hz over HDMI then yes. Most 144Hz do it over DisplayPort with HDMI capped at 120Hz though.

      • -1

        HDMI to DP adaptor it

      • It also has mini displayport

  • Any reason why the 15inch models are more expensive than this 17inch? It is because 15inch is more popular/desirable?

    • This is on sale, the 15 isn't. Also, i5, 8GB RAM.

  • Don't forget to add on the legendary on site service!

  • Any idea how good the screens are on these? Colour accuracy is important for me, hoping to use it for photo editting. There's not many 17" choices available.

    • +2

      https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-G7-17-7790-i7-8750H-RTX-2…
This review speaks on color accuracy for the G7 (I believe this is the right year model, but stand for be corrected), specs for the processor and GPU are different but the screen would be the same.

      • Thanks Mr Orly!

  • I’m hoping to get a laptop for video editing, the g5 at $1k shall be able to fo thd job right?

  • Manufacturers should just ditch HDDs especially when SSDs are so cheap!

  • -2

    How heavy is this?

  • Wonder how this will hold value once i9s are common.

    • Wonder how this will hold value once i10s are common.

      • Next gen ryzen will have 4 threads per core, will make things more interesting.

  • Asked if they could put this deal on their eBay Store. They said no :D

    • And I wonder why..

      ….
….. Maybe if more people asking? I'll do the same.

    • What difference does it make if on eBay store?

  • Hmm, I just bought a 2070 Super from Computer Alliance in the last 20% off sale in preparation of building a new PC, but this deal kinda trumps that. Sure, it's not quite as good a GPU as I was planning on putting in it, but portability would be great!

Anyone interested in buying my unopened 2070 Super for the price I paid? :P

    • +2

Rule of thumb is 10% off for brand new unwanted goods with receipt.

  • +2

I would have bought this if they were more flexible. Asked if they could change it to 16gb ram instead of 2x4gb, and I'd pay for the upgrade, but they can't.

    • +1

      DIY,
It's not that hard and won't cost you nearly as much as paying for Dell to do it

      • Will it void the warranty?

  • Does anybody know shopback can get extra 9% cash back on G Series..?

    https://www.shopback.com.au/dell-australia

  • -1

Just got off with Dell chat and they said all G series machines are not customisable.
So you can't even add the RAM yourself after the purchase.

    • Really!? I have a similar machine to this on order from Dell. Luckily I7 9750 / 512gb SSD / 16GB Ram but would have liked option to add a second SDD/HDD

    • +1

So you can't even add the RAM yourself after the purchase.

I wouldn't rely on the advice of Dell chat reps:

The Dell G7 7790 Service Manual shows procedures for Removing/Replacing the memory modules:
      https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/au/en/aubsd1/g-series-1…

The Dell G7 7790 Setup and Specifications doc (PDF) shows the supported Memory specs:
      https://www.dell.com/support/home/au/en/audhs1/product-suppo…

      Slots: Two SODIMM slots
      Type: DDR4
      Speed: Up to 2666 MHz
      Maximum memory: 32 GB
      Minimum memory: 4 GB
Memory size per slot: 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB

    • No, they mean you can't customise it when you buy it.

You can however "upgrade" it on your own.
