[PS4] PS4 Pro for $149 (Trade of PS4 Slim + 2 Games Required) @ EB Games

2830

Bloody good price for a PS4 Pro if your PS4 is on the way out. The way I see it, you're paying $149 for another few years of warranty + a more powerful console. Apparently they're taking other models of PS4 as well, doesn't need to be slim. Will just have to pay a bit more for it.

    Do you know how much you have to pay for the OG Ps4?

    • +17

      Just called and they said $179

      • +1

        Ohhhh man this is tempting.

        Playing God of War at the moment and I'd really like to be playing it at 60fps

        • +7

          Don't think God of War on Pro is 60fps?

          • @fatpizza: Aww damn.

            I see that it's 'targeted 60fps' but hits around 50.
            Hmm, I'm not sure I want it jumping around…

            • -3

              @putshan: How do you tolerate movies, then?

              • +5

                @Ulysses31: Yeah guys throw your 144hz monitors in the bins, play all your games at 30FPS for that ’cinema experience’…

                • @zaprct: Still makes no sense. Let's get 14444mhz monitors w00t!!1!

      • Thanks for the info. that works out pretty similar to the offer they had a few weeks back when they gave out extra dollars in trade.

      • Called as well (unsure if I called the same place) also told $179, which personally to me is a pretty good swap. Cheers mate! (edit, it doesn't say you need to swap a controller, do you?)

      • +1

        That's pretty good! Wanting to get rid of my launch year fatty.

        • +8

          Why don't you just call them yourself?

        • +1

          That's what the amex concierge is for

      • Called my local and they said it didn't apply. Just takes $170 off the pro price. I called to check how much extra it would be without a controller, didn't get that far..

    • +2

      Xcuse my ignorance but what's OG?

      • +1

        Probably the older ps4 or the non slim model

        • +2

          presumably original generation

      • +32

        Original ganster

  • +1

    Not for me but great for long-time PS4 Slim owners looking for something new until the PS5 arrives

    • I'd consider solely to see if there's a recognisable bump in quality for PSVR? Anyone used PSVR on a standard and then upped to a Pro and find better performance or textures?

      • -3

        I vaguely remember reading that it should be identical

      • +1

        Most games are noticeably better, just depends if the game has been designed with pro in mind or had a patch.

        • Settings -> System -> Boost
          Increases performance of most old titles

      • +3

        For me it was night at day between a ps4 slim and pro with PSVR. I found the blurriness unplayable in a lot of games on the slim but when i got the pro i was able to play everything comfortably.

    • Does anyone has idea what upgrade would ps5 will bring over ps4 pro?

      • -1

        No

      • The talk is some enhanced SSD tech, SSD as standard at launch. Dunno if ray tracing is making the next gen consoles, but I'd be surprised if it didn't. A couple of months back, Sony's Mark Cerny gave an interview to Wired were he talked about some stuff, mainly the SSD bit. There was a comparison given for PS4 Pro vs the next playstation console on Spiderman load times recently and it was considerable.

  • +8

    Very tempting but I don't want to lose my PT demo :/

    • you can backup your ps4 HDD

      • I don't think it's transferable

        • +1

          I'm doing it now to external HDD. Under applications you can select P.T. so i'm assuming it works?

          • +3

            @elli0t: PT ?

            • +2

              @unifex: It's a demo for a game that got cancelled and is now unable to be played/downloaded unless you got it when it was available.

        • My brother transferred his copy…

        • +3

          It is. I've transferred it to both of my PS4s.

    • The data is transferable, can save it to the cloud too if you have PSN. Otherwise an extrnal HDD will work fine

    • +1

      PT Demo can be re downloaded, but ONLY IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY HAD IT.

      follow this guide…

      https://powerup-gaming.com/2019/08/13/how-to-redownload-p-t-…

      did this myself back in jan to my pro.

      essentially your PSN account must have been authorised to play it at some point back when it was available. If you had it before on your psn account, this will work 100%

  • damn i got an OG PS4 and tempting to trade in even for a bit of a higher price.

    Wonder which games I can trade in

  • I'm guessing it means
    1 console, 1 controller, 1 power cable and 1 hdmi cable?

    and 2 games.

    • But you'll get another controller with the pro right?

  • +1

    Any requirement for the games? I have some cheap ones lying around.

    • Usually not. I traded up last time they did this (July), used 2 old Fifa games and they took those no worries.

    • +3

      As long as they aren't promotional games they will take them (I got a couple from the starlight loot boxes and they wouldn't take them). They have cheap pre owned games atm so you could even buy them and trade them straight in.

    • I did this deal yesterday and confirmed with the store they there were no restrictions on the games.

  • +1

    Any ideas if they will take the OG PS4?

    Cheers.

    • +1

      Yes, you have to pay $179 for the PRO instead.

  • what about wanting to trade in an original release pro? it's noisy and want to pay extra for a new release pro

    • Is it not the latest revision with the revised fan system?

      • no my pro is original release pro

        • I don't think they're much quieter fezza. I have a release Pro and a cuh-7102 and they're not far apart. The new 7202 isn't supposed to be noticeably different from the 7102 either. I fully expect someone to disagree btw but that's just my personal experience. I'm selling my 7102 on eBay as I'm going PC on sim racing now.

          • @[Deactivated]: i also have the latest revision and it's silent compared to my original release pro

            • @FeZZa21: Maybe I got lucky with my original Pro. It rarely runs hot.

              • +1

                @[Deactivated]: i even replaced the thermal paste on it and it became silent for maybe month or two before it went back to normal jet engine.

                • @FeZZa21: From what I understand there's two different stock fan models, one is louder. You can replace the fan pretty easy.

        • Oops, misread your comment. Thought you were talking about the one EB is trading us.

    • I traded in an original Pro and a controller with the rubber worn off the joysticks and 2 xbox one games, cost me $79 extra for a white ps4 pro

  • Will they trade in if my console has been opened up to replace thermal paste ?

    • +1

      yes, won't be any different to trading in an old ps4 that's out of warranty.

    • In my experience at EB they literally just ask if it still works. If it looks fine then they process it.

    • +1

      I wouldn't tell them you modified it otherwise they might say no. I put a 2 TB HDD in my original PS4 and replaced it back to a 500GB and was never asked if it was modified or anything. I don't think they actually tested it, just asked if it worked.

      • I think just replacing the HDD is fine though, given Sony supports it without voiding the warranty, and makes it pretty easy to do. I replaced the HDD in my OG PS4 with a 2tb drive also. Asked the eb games staff about it before I traded mine in last time they offered a similar deal to this, and they just advised me to swap it back before I bring it in as the bigger HDD doesn't increase the value of the trade-in. Thankfully I held onto the original 500gb drive.

    • Same boat and I called 3 branches. Only 1 said it might traded in but I still have to bring it in to have it checked out.

  • +2

    Tempting but considering PS5 is expected to have backwards compatibility, you may as well wait at this stage.

    • +2

      And pay an arm and a leg for the PS5.

      We’re OzBargainers. We’re here for cheap entertainment upgrades.
      :P

      • or do this and sell it when ps5 comes out, will have better resale value than an old OG ps4

    • +3

      I'd estimate trade in value for a Pro should be about $100 more than the Slim when trading towards a PS5 though, so you could think of it as $50 net spend to use the Pro for a year before PS5 comes out, haha.

      • Normally EB usually says it's not part of the deal and offers $0 extra. However there's a comment below that says otherwise - perhaps they just got lucky.

    • You will still get a whole year of playing before the ps5 comes out.

  • How do EB Games make a profit on this?

    I can buy a new PS4 Slim for $298 add $149 and it is $2 more to buy a PS4 Pro Fortnite bundle ($449).

    If you are in the market for a PS4 Pro, you could save more by buying a second hand one on Gumtree.

    • 2nd hand are most likely old revision therefore noisy and run hot

      • Agreed, which makes this a great deal if you are in the market for a PS4 Pro. If you don't have already have a PS4, but a second hand one for $200 and keep the extra games / controllers.

      • Old version is noisy but It is colder….

    • You have to trade 2 games too, they will bank on people trading in games they can still mark up to $20 or so. Plus their preowned consoles aren't exactly cheap so once they sell them they still would be making a bit of a profit.

      • +1

        yeah, they strongly encourage people to trade in their mario and zelda games.

      • Can't you just pick up 2 $5 bargain bin games from in store?

  • FYI, this probably has 1tb storage. I don't think there are any models with 500gb.

  • do you get a choice between black and white or this is for black only?

    • +1

      It says both.

  • +1

    is this really worth it? got the fatty ps4 og

    • +3

      Yeah miles ahead of OG PS4

      • +1

        I guess at least you get a new PS4 Pro with new warranty

  • Does anyone remember what size drive the OG PS4 came with? Was it 500GB?

    • Yes.

      • Thanks, I'll have to take out my 2TB drive and find an old 500GB drive in my collection of pc parts.

        • That's what I had to do when I traded for the last deal haha. Was a pain in the ass but worth it.

    • yes

  • Does anyone know if old original box and accessories are necessary to be traded as well?

    • +1

      Needs to come with:
      * Power cord
      * HDMI cable
      * Controller
      * Micro USB cable

      Doesn't need to be in the box and also doesn't need the headset that came with it to be included.

      • and assume in the new box, it will comes with:
        * Power cord
        * HDMI cable
        * Controller
        * Micro USB cable
        ???

        • +1

          You get a brand new PS4, so yeah, it comes with all of that, plus a basic headset.

  • What games can we trade in?

  • +9

    Just spoke to my local.

    If you trade in a ps4 pro you only have to pay $79. Good deal if like me your ps4 pro doesn't read discs anymore and out of warranty.

    Also they said it can be any games from either ps4, Xbox one and switch.

    • +1

      thanks for checking mate, that's a cool price. going to trade in my old and noisy pro when I get home.
