[PS4] PS4 Pro for $149 (Trade of PS4 Slim + 2 Games Required) @ EB Games

2830

Bloody good price for a PS4 Pro if your PS4 is on the way out. The way I see it, you're paying $149 for another few years of warranty + a more powerful console. Apparently they're taking other models of PS4 as well, doesn't need to be slim. Will just have to pay a bit more for it.

"PS4 Pro doesn't read discs anymore and out of warranty"

Well… that ain't instill confidence eh?

    • What branch said you could trade in a non-working PS4? I fixed mine but said I couldn't trade in an opened PS4

      • did you tell them it was opened? if so, that's what you get for providing information that you're not asked for.

    • Do they take it if it does not read disc?

      • -1

If you don't tell them how will they know

    • -1

Any ideas whether they actually test the disc reading? Cause that doesn't sound like too bad a deal for someone sick of having to tap the console repeatedly…

    • Thanks, just traded my Pro in.

  • +1

Trade the games in and buy them back under the no regrets policy.

    • How does this work? Like what is the advantage of this? I have never traded with EB before coz they're normally scammy.

  • +2

Does anyone know what the deal is with the games? Do they have to be recent releases? Like the last year?

  • +1

Cool deal. Can you back-up everything on your PS4 hard drives (digital game downloads and saves) to an external HDD and then restore them to the new machine provided you are using the same PlayStation account?

I was able to do that with my Xbox One when transitioning to the Xbox One X and hoping Sony allow the same process so I don't need to download numerous titles to my game library again.

    • +1

Yes you can, if you have PSN you can do your saves to the cloud too.

  • anyone know what ps4 games are excluded for the trade in?

  • Can the slim be a 500GB model or does it have to be 1TB?

  • I'm a hermit, how do you claim this? Just go into the store with your PS4 already packed up?

    • walk into a store with your ps4, controller and cables - no box required, can be in a safeway bag if you want. Make sure you bring valid ID

      • Thanks. I have all the original packaging and box from launch, don't ask why >_<

        • Because you're a hermit that can't take the trash outside

      • hang on, i don't believe HDMI cable was part of the original packaging? power cable and micro usb yes but not hdmi cable .. can someone please kindly confirm?

  • Anyone know how much extra cost is without trading in controller?

    • Just call them

      • I did. But was told they won't include the OG PS4 in this trade in deal

        • Ah OK. It seems like their responses are changing with each EB…

          • @dealsforlife: They won't accept it without a controller. The OG will cost an extra $30, I would ask to talk to someone else if I were you because every place I talked to said they would take them.

    This is annoying.

Called my closest EB games and they said the games have to be at least $10 in value each.
Called the 2nd closest and they said any ps4 games in sell-able condition will do.

Edit. Called the 3rd closest and it's any ps4 games in sell-able condition will do.

    • Go to the second closest EB store then. Normally, with these deals, it is any game in sellable condition.

Last time I did this type of deal, I even bought a $2 pre-owned game from EB to then trade that one in for the deal (only have 1 other game I wanted to get rid of).

      • I will but 1.7km…..

        • Call the nearest and ask again?

      • yeah he goes there any they changes their minds.

  • are these refurbished ? or new?

  • +1

Without this promotion, EB Games are offering $120 for a 500GB Fatty.

Edit. I almost lost it when I asked the employee would they accept me fat one.

If I don’t have a 4K tv is it worth me upgrading from a regular ps4?

    • In the same boat. I think it'll run a little faster and give you 60 fps with certain games.

    • If you're using PSVR, I'd say so. Otherwise no.

    • Do you have enough yet to play PS4 exclusive games to make this purchase worthwhile?
Do you intend to get PS5?
When do you think you will get a 4K TV?
Is your PS4 in average condition where a new one with new controller is handy?

PS4 isn't true 4K (it's checkered board 4K for most games). The only true 4K 60fps for PS4 Pro is Wipeout Omega Collection.

      • I have a ps4 slim. its about a year old, and in that time ive put in around 10 hours into it. I did recently buy a ps vr unit, but apparently having a ps4 pro makes no difference to the vr?

Not sure on the ps5, ill get it eventually, but not at launch, i have a highly specc'd gaming pc which im sure will last me quite some time.

Dont think ill upgrade my tv anytime soon, 1080p looks good enough to me :)

        • +1

It's the extra frame rate PS4 pro has over the std PS4 using PSVR.

If you game long hours on the PSVR you will find the pro is worth it ( 10 hours is not worth it for an upgrade). The smoother experience does helps especially if your eyes and brains are not trained in the FPS gameplay….you will feel like throwing up after playing too long.

          • @luffyex2010: Hmmm, thanks is it worth the extra $170 tho…

            • @DiscoJango: But it seems 10 hrs of gaming in a year is like really low (less than 2 minutes a day / good for game intro) so it's NO for you.

If quality of gaming (framerate )and money is not a concern then YES for you

What are the chances of getting a PRO with firmware 5.05?

  • +2

I'd be in like Flynn if they had a similar deal for the Xbox one X!

  • I called my local EB Games.

I have the OG Black PS4 (will put back the original 500gb HDD) but I already threw out my broken controller. I was supposed to get a controller over the weekend. Cheapest I found is $65 from Costco.

    any 2 PS4 games.
    plus $179 for my unit.
    plus $45 for the controller.
total cash out is $224 from my end.

Do you think I should avail of this deal? I would appreciate your comments if you are in my position. Thanks.

    • Since this deal got posted I've been thinking about whether to do this upgrade or not. I'm leaning towards no.

      • The regular plays all the same games.
      • Near end of life.
      • Still a lot of money.
      • PS5 will be backwards compatible.
      • I'ts hardly 4k.
      • it's $224 (trade-in deal) vs $65(new controller that I need)
i wonder if the PS4 controller will be compatible with the PS5, then i will just have an extra controller if and when my unit conks out.

      • +2

Ps5 is "rumoured" to come out towards end of next year and the first year model is always touch and go.

        • That's true. I think PS5 is still a bit far. Sony is still milking it with the PS4.

      • What do you expect the difference between OG and pro will be in terms of trade in value towards a ps5. I feel like the OG will be worthless by that point.

        • Pro would worth more no brainer and you are right the OG will be like a $199 or towards the end a $99 console (last stage of product life cycle) when PS5 arrives in late 2020 or 2021. The funny thing about PS4 last stage life cycle will drag for some time because of the over 100m PS4/PS4Pro consoles out there.

My prediction AU and it's the crazy retail launch price.

PS5 would be $599 (Maybe trade in a ps4 pro would be a $399 price tag)
          and
PS5 Pro would be $759 (Maybe trade in a ps4 pro would be a $559 price tag)

  • Anyone know if you can pay the $149 using gift cards?

  • -6

Or you can just buy the PS4 Pro 1TB Fortnite bundle from Big W for $429

  • FYI EB Games Perth CBD sold out of Pro consoles.
So need to find elsewhere in Perth.

    • Plenty of black ones around, white was a challenge, only booragoon and canning Vale had a couple each.

Not sure about northern suburbs, I'm south.

I am backing up my system data including apps, 6 hours to go!

    • +1

Haha me too! 75min left, which gives me 20min to get to my local EB Games!

      • 17m to go before I swap my ps4 pro 7000 for a 7200….plus 2 games and $79

  • +5

Just did the deal and seemingly FIFA 20 and NBA 2K20 is included! I'm not sure if this was a major cock-up on his behalf but after trading in my slim 500gb and the 2 games I walked out with the pro and those two for $149

Will provide a receipt if you need, because it makes this deal even more worth it

  • one of my warranty stickers on the back is peeling and so they said no

    • try different stores until you get a winner

    • +1

      stick it back on

    • Most consoles aren't even in warranty anymore. So the sticker shouldn't matter.

Could always peel it off fully and try again.

      • Lady said she had to see the manager and then the reson was "they can't resell it as they don't know what I've done to it" I told them it's not like any of them are in warranty and I'm happy to wait for them to turn it on. They could take it as a faulty but that dropped the price dramatically.

        • They are making too much fuss. Maybe just take it elsewhere?

  • Called Rhodes eb, they only accept slim, don't accept original ps4

  • Wonder if they have issues with games from different regions..

    • +1

I've traded in NTSC(USA) games before. they accepted them, but there is a $2 refurbishment fee deducted from the trade value.

    • Just traded in The Division which I purchased from Amazon US and it scanned fine. They didn't even check.
