Good price considering you can now run SteamOS on it. Please buy them before I consider upgrading from my deck which I scarcely use anyway.

Says new on outlet site, but could be an open box from memory, based on their Ts & Cs.

      • +27

Yes but can we run SteamOS on this?

        • +15

from the comment that's quoting from the op

Good price considering you can now run SteamOS on it

          • +8

@R3STRIKT3D: Yeah sure, but Can you use SteamOS on this?

            • +7

              @huuuuugo: Yes OP is steamed

            • @huuuuugo: i thiink the beuty of having a steam deck is that it has steam os on there pre installed and has regular updates eg when a new game comes out like doom dark ages day one steam OS gets updated to be able to run it.

              • +2

@kungfuman: Legion Go S SteamOS Edition also has SteamOS pre-installed as well.

          • +13

@R3STRIKT3D: Right and you call it SteamOS despite the fact it is obviously grilled?

    • +2

but can you install steam OS on this? :D yeah i know you can

    • +1

Is that a type of breakfast cereal?

  • +2

Can SteamOS be installed on Lenovo Legion Go Z1 Extreme?

    • +1

      Sure can!

I've done it and runs well.

Waiting for my battery to be delivered from Aliexpress to install as well - hopefully an extra 35% battery life

  • +22

Seems like a great price. I only skimmed through the title but I wonder if you can install SteamOS onto it?

    • +3

I'm not sure, it'd be really handy if you could install SteamOS on it.

    • on the off chance you aren't taking the piss, yeah you can install steam os, steam has a page dedicated to explaining it and I have linked a guy doing it on youtube above

      • +7

I hope you won't miss that piss, because he's 100% taken it.

      • He's pwnd you

  • Is z1 extreme powerful than z2go?

    • Yes it is more powerful

    • From weakest to strongest:
      Z1
      Z2go
      Z1E
      (most likely Z2E)

      • Between Z2go vs Z1E, in layman's terms, how much differences in power? Thanks!

        • +2

Here, you can see them side by side with steam OS
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt1-Eb-NNCQ

        • Z2go is a zen3+ 4 core processor with the 680m gpu

          Z1e is a zen4 8 core processor with the 780m gpu

In real terms, apparently the difference is 10%ish (mainly because of the gpu) but if you intend to dock it for “general desktop use”, I imagine you’d notice more of a difference with the cpu.

I’m really looking forward to an 890m based handheld that doesn’t break the bank - so it can dock up to an egpu and replace my desktop pc

  • +3

Great price but LCD screen is a negative. I don't want to give up my OLED.

  • +6

Purchased one of these from the recent eBay deal, and it’s a phenomenal piece of hardware. I wasn’t sure if SteamOs could be installed on this though but I installed it anyway.

  • +18

Pretty good price. It would be great if you could install SteamOS - anyone know?

  • Would this stacked with shopback 13.2% cashback currently on?

    • +1

Nope, outlet store is excluded from cashback offers

      • +2

thanks. this should be sub $600 and I bite.

  • -5

So want to confirm z2go processor is inferior to z2 processors?

    • +6

Reply to your own threads dude, christ, this is the third one you've opened. Get help.

  • +5

Come on now guys stop messing around, the description CLEARLY states you can install SteamOS on it.

But does anyone know if there is some sort of installation instructions or demonstration video to help understand the process?

    • +25

The hardest thing is distinguishing people taking the piss from those who are blind lol

  • +4

I managed to get Jb to price match. Good if you have gift cards or want to pick up.
Came down $664.10 for me with (10% off Gcard and $10 perks)

    • Online or instore? JB online just rejected me.

      • +3

        Online.
        https://ibb.co/Tq2nFL93

I wasnt expecting for it to pricematch, but they did.

Maybe try again and hopefully you get someone who would do it.

        • lmao I've just been transferred back to the original person who rejected my initially and they're doubling down on not being able to do it due to it being from an outlet. Apparently they've now told me that you'll be rejected from ordering? What a shitshow. Going to order from Lenovo now.

  • +13

Pretty keen to jump on this deal, but on the fence depending if SteamOS can be installed

    • +7

yeh if only the OP included the instructions and links to this ….

  • Looking for a similar price where I can use Afterpay or ZipPay as my laptop and desktop computers both shat themselves within a week of each other. Anyone?

  • +1

Good price and would have bought it if it wasn't for the crappy battery life.

  • +6

Lenovo sent me one by accident - long story.
So while I did the right thing and contact them to send it back, I had a play on it.
Can confirm steam os runs great. Performance hike of about 10-15%. But the touch pad does not work.
Trust me you aren’t missing much.
Provided it is my first handheld, I will avoid commenting too much about performance- research indicates all other devices perform better.
I won’t be paying for one - will wait for a good sale on the z1 or a steam deck oled.

  • Retro game corps did a review on the steam O's version, he rates it as his favourite handheld.

    • +1

That version also had a Z1 Extreme with 32gbs of ram though..

    • Entirely different specs

  • +6

Pretty good price, but I'd rather buy something that can run SteamOS.

    • It runs Win11 which can run Steam App to play games, whats SteamOS got that this doesnt?

      • +5

cmon man get up to speed ffs

  • It's interesting, but less powerful than original ROG Ally (and only same 16gb / 512gb)… I'd say wait.

  • +3

I'm looking for something I could install SteamOS on, anyone know if this is suitable?

  • +1

this is almost similar performance as the steam deck (~5fps better)
would wait for steam go s z1e

    • +1

Yeah I was gonna pull the trigger but doesn't feel like enough of an upgrade for a vrr/ higher res screen

  • damn, I kinda wanted the purple one with steamos but at this price I think I'll settle on the white one and just stick steamos on it myself

    • The one with SteamOS will be on sale in about 6 month time if you can wait. I cant stand the white version. Look like toys.

  • -1

I'm waiting for the Mac OS version

  • +2

I think I’ll wait for the SteamOS one

    • I won't argue with your logic

  • +3

It would be nice to have some clarity around steamOS.

  • Sorry if this has been asked, but can you install SteamOS and still maintain Windows, and thus be able to dual boot ?

  • has anyone connected 2 monitors via a dock for this device?

  • +2

Just pulled the trigger on this. Does anyone have instructions to install SteamOS handy? Thanks in advance

  • -3

something something steam os give me my upvotes

  • does it run Mario kart world andinecraft. ?

  • +3

I would say if OP is upgrading from a Steam Deck, that would not be a great decision, since Z2 Go performs only a bit better than SD.

If you are using a LCD one, and have some DIY abilities, you can do what I did, which I purchased a shell kit by Extremerate on Amazon, purchased a brand new 3rd party battery on Aliexpress, and optionally purchased some thermal paste and 2230 size SSD with more storage. Then you would get like a refurbished brand new steam deck, depending on your DIY skill.

  • Is Australia getting the Legion GO S SteamOS version with Z1Extreme 32Ram?

  • +9

    Can it run SteamedHamsOS?

    • +4

Not at this time of year.

  • +3

    Good price

FWIW my experience with PC handhelds as a first timer is, you probably don't need as much performance as you think… The screens are relatively tiny so most likely 720p is enough, and mostly anything runs fine at 720p in any of these. You'll probably pick smoother frame rates at 720p over stutters at 1200p without even noticing the lower resolution.

Battery life is a bigger consideration, but also realistically you don't want to be holding these for more than 2-3 hours as they are rather heavy… unless you're on a long haul flight or something - in which case you'd plug it into the seat power anyway. It's not anywhere near as portable as a Switch.

I also wouldn't buy any that couldn't dual boot SteamOS + Windows… If it's SteamOS only, you will miss out on Game Pass and the loads of games which you wouldn't buy even at 50% off, but which are great to pass time on a handheld. And if it's Windows only, well, it works… but SteamOS is much nicer to use, even if you don't care about maximising performance and battery life (which SteamOS does at least slightly better at). And god nothing is more annoying than having to deal with 10 minutes of random Windows update reboots when all you wanted to do was kill 30 minutes playing Dead Cells on your commute.

  • +1

I can’t quite figure this out, does Australia get different models?

I thought White = Windows models
And only the cheaper Black Steam model had 16GB RAM, all other 3 models had 32GB?

Or is that in US only, since I pasted a Best Buy link?

    And YouTube reviewers

    • +3

Yes we get different models. Mostly nerfed and more expensive

      • +1

Thanks! I thought I was going crazy with the different reviews
