[Android] Free: 1984 Cam – VHS Camcorder, Retro Camera Effects (Was $1.59) @ Google Play

1160

Rated 4.3 with no IAP/ads.

Time to create a video to show the kids what I looked like as a Pentium 2.

1984 Cam is a VHS Camcorder style video effects generator app, it’ll make videos that look and sound like real retro videotapes recorded 30 years before by a vintage VHS Camcorder.

VHS cassette, the 8 mm video format, is introduced in 1984. That makes camcorder available for the consumer. Prior to the camcorder, a portable recorder and camera would be required.

✨ With 1984 Cam – VHS Camcorder, you can change the on-screen date to old-time 1980s to trick your friends, add flashy custom titles, glitch the picture with many glitch art effects, zoom in an out with the zoom lens to focus on amazing moments!

    More like PC-XT

  • +4

No, thanks. It seems Orwellian to me.

    Is big brother watching?

    No Betamax?

Pentium 2 wasn't even out in 1984 lol

    Permissions seem excessive…hmm..

    This app has access to:
    Other
    receive data from Internet
    view network connections
    full network access
    prevent device from sleeping

    • +3

Yeah I don't know why it needs so much network access, I will probably uninstall it just to be safe. "Prevent device from sleeping" is probably needed to stop it from going to sleep though while taking a recording longer than the phone's auto sleep time.

edit: well it seems the default Google camera app on my stock Android 9 has all those permissions too, except for "receive data from the internet".

Try installing it, opening the app settings and toggling all of the permissions off. Works 50% of the time for me.

Always wanted to make 80's p0rn.

You need more than just digital effects. Pool cleaner, mustache, broken accent, leopard print. That's according to Google of course.

  • Upvote just for the pentium 2 reference. Only because I forgot all about Pentiums 2 and 3. Just Pentium 1 and Pentium 4. The Mister says one thing hasn't changed since then, Celerons are still rubbish.

Just had a look, is Pentium Gold the new budget thing now?

  • Time to make that slasher film

Can understand wanting to recreate Super 8, but not VHS…

  • Very popular in China

still remember the days when you have to rewind the tapes and record in extended mode so you can get twice the duration on a tape

    • +1

      Long play?

I remember my sister asking how to rewind the new DVD disc :)

      • +2

The new digital versatile disc disc?

    • boxes full of labelled vhs tapes… And making considerations of what to record when a new $6 blank long-play VHS came home after shopping at BRASHES
