Features:

Stylish 13” notebook

The new U30SD presents an impressive style of compact finesse, with its light aluminum alloy construction, chiclet keyboard and oversized palm rests. It proves the thin and light segment doesn’t have to come in uncomfortable and drab design!
And at less than 30mm thick and 2Kg in weight, this tantalizing machine goes wherever you go.

Small in stature, huge in power

The U30SD fields new 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i3 and i5 processors and up to 8GB of RAM for unrelenting speed for every task. ASUS once more proves spectacular, lean design shouldn’t come at the expense of generous features and performance.

Excellent gaming power

The dedicated NVIDIA® GeForce™ GT 520M with 1GB VRAM makes it possible to do everything on one compact notebook – productivity, web, video, music and of course gaming. The capable GPU offers a major upgrade over those underpowered competing notebooks, plus it supports NVIDIA® CUDA parallel computing for optimized performance and great energy savings.

Complete portability with optical media

The U30SD doesn’t cut any corners. While many other light notebooks lose weight by dropping features, it includes an optical disc drive so you don’t have to mess with external devices, wires and drivers. Instead, you have the peace of mind of physical storage and backup.

10-hour battery life

While the new U30SD packs more features than much larger notebooks, it operates with great thrift for super-long battery life. Enjoy all-day computing with over 10 hours on a single battery charge - no need to stop and rush for a wall socket. Just sit down, load up and get working.

  • Good deal! Very solid specs. 10 hour battery life? A bit over exaggerated :P

Asus and Toshiba make the best laptops IMO in terms of build quality and support.

    • +2

      Not exaggerated, surprisingly.

Damn shame there is no USB3, otherwise the perfect machine. Bluray is a nice addition over the old U31.

      • ORLY? But do you actually have one? It would suprise me that on low/med brightness with balanced or powersaver chosen you would get 10hrs battery browsing the web/word etc. But yes, USB3.0 would make this a perfect machine :P

        • Agreed, darn shame no usb3, top price though

      • I agree, I'd get it if it had usb 3.0

  • Very good price :)

  • is this Oz stock, what's up with all the funny characters on the keyboard pix?

    • +4

Pix are from the international ASUS site, and I assume those funky characters are for notebooks distributed in asia.

I checked stock and the characters are what you would expect, english characters only.

  • would have been perfect with a couple of usb3.0 ports. why oh why are manufactures adopting it already ?

  • good deal but if you don't want/need an optical drive then I think the U31F is better…

    • +1

That one also does not have a dedicated graphic card.

    • +1

No way.. this is a much better deal, newer processor, bluray, dedicated graphics etc, well worth the extra $200.

    • BluRay, Dedicated Video Card and a newer processor how can you say that the other deal is better unless your on a budget and want a slower machine

  • how long is the deal on for? i may need a week to decide. need 3 laptops for work
its this or the toshiba tecra r830 imported for around the same price

    • Simple answer, probably a week or more, perhaps longer. We have some 100s in stock and its a niche model, but if our corporates pick up significant numbers, well could be withdrawn at any time.

      • Can you offer a deal for U36JC or SD for us Ozbargainers? There a lot of us who would like to buy that model…

        • The old Gen1 CPU model? Have a few left in stock but should clear those without needing to discount. Any particular reason you like those over the U30SD (hybrid HDD maybe?)

        • It's this model:
          http://www.computeralliance.com.au/parts.aspx?qryPart=12446
I love the slim design and USB3. This model was also a winner in a number of international reviews.

        • We have a pretty good price on the current model U36JC, I think best in Australia.

For some it may be a better choice than the U30SD — it has the slightly older CPU/Graphics but advantage is the ultra slim form factor (loses the DVD to do that) and the hybrid HDD.

The updated model will be out probably next month with core specs closer to the U30SD however its likely it will be priced significantly higher than the current U36

        • +1

          I'll be buying a U36SD asap.

Get a deal going on man, you'll be onto a winner if it's below or around $1000 shipped.

          Just do it.

    • would you waive shipping if i bought 2

  • +3

Do the U36SD for this price, pretty please! :)

  • Is the actual colour of the laptop black or silver?

How long is the deal (I get my tax return in 3 weeks!)?

    Is it Australian stock?

    • I suppose metallic black is the best description for most of it, quite a nice finish.

Everything we sell is bought through Australian distributors/manufacturers.

      • So much for my memory. Top/outside is silver, base and area around screen is black, area where you palms are is a dark metallic silver. The impression when you have it open is a metallic black. Pics don't do it justice, you won't confuse it with a entry level model when you see one.

On display in the shop if you can get in.

        • Thanks for your reply!

When will this really great deal end? How long will the $899 plus $25 shipping price last?

I get my tax return in 2-3 weeks! ;-)

  • Good to see a 13" with specs like this. 13" is the all round best size for laptops yet they're being taken over by the netbook market.

  • Hi Everyone,

I need a new laptop for work must be 13" (personal choice) and have a budget of $1100. But after seeing this one. It looks pretty dam good. Would this be the best value Laptop under $1100? Thanks!

    • yes but theres enough margin on the up coming u36sd model to be discounted to your price range
depends whether they are willing to do it
if you wanna save money, import a toshiba portege r830 from amazon via priceusa.com.au for $899 delivered
      or just get this one

portege is enterprise class so better quality

  • Is the black colour version available? Will the black colour version be available in the future?

  • great laptop, i have an asus with my 2 yr warranty with asus - give you that security.
if mine was out of action i would buy this.
