Perfect timing OP! Water tank going in soon for the garden.

      You're aware this a 12 volt pump?

  • I noticed this has a car lighter socket attachment. I would like to run this in the garden. What are my options for plugging into a standard wall socket?

  • As this is 12v DC for power any good strategies for connecting it up to mains? Suggested parts/components?

  • Could you hook this up to a solar panel with a on/off timer?

    • Absolutely; though I can't think of a 12v timer offhand without Googling.

You'd need a decent panel for 4.5A of current though; otherwise it won't run at capacity.

      • Cheers, im thinking of doing a small DIY pool solar setup. eg. 100watt panel (Max Power Voltage:18V | Max Power Current:5.5A) that'll just pull water from the pool and push it through a long length of black irrigation pipe and back into the pool.

Timer is probably not needed if it'll be powered by the sun, but i wonder if i'll run into issues such as under/over-voltage and damage to the pump.

I wouldn't hook it up to the panel directly. At least hook the solar panel up to an el-cheapo 12V solar panel inverter and maybe a used car battery. That would ensure the pump gets the 4.5A that it needs.

I've used this pump as you describe, only I use a 12V transformer. I have it pump through 2 "parallel" 125 meter coils of 13mm irrigation pipe. On a hot day, in direct sun, that setup works reasonably well. However, you need to consider the 600L/H claim is based on no "flow resistance", whereas pumping through 100+ metres of irrigation tube is a fairly considerable amount of resistance, and I think you'd be lucky to get much more than 5-7 liters per minute (depending on your setup). With my setup, I'm effectively running it through 250 meters of irrigation tubing. In perfect conditions, the water that comes through is about 4-5 degrees warmer than the water going in. Consider a small 10ft "fast set" pool holds about 3500 litres, it's going to take about 8-9 hours to raise the temp of the pool by about 4-5 degrees. Most of this temperature gain you lose overnight. So unless you're thinking of using this with a pool of that size or smaller, I wouldn't bother. The benefit you get will be negligible considering the cost and effort of setting it all up. Other things to consider, the pump is likely designed for camping/caravan usage, and is probably not designed to run for 10-12 hours a day for 3 months of the year. Mine hasn't failed yet but it does overheat fairly frequently on hot days, so it shuts off for about a minute every 10 minutes or so. Not a big deal, as the water in the irrigation tube continues to heat while it's stationary! Finally the filter on this is very small. You really need a prefilter for your intake/inlet end, otherwise it will clog up pretty quickly. At this price, if you want to do it for fun, go for it, but considering my experience, I probably wouldn't bother doing it again (there are systems available for a few hundred dollars designed for this purpose that I think would work a lot better).

Hmm. I was going to get a constant pressure pump but maybe this is the way to go. Also much simpler to make up an extension cable for it..

I know it says 10m head, but in reality how does it perform? (if anyone has one)

  • Anyone know of a quiet pump, not submersible unless quite flat, for constant operation?

Need one for a pond with fountain (3m head)

    • +1

You need to say what power or flow rate for your fountain.
      Small ornamental one for home?

Submersibles are designed for dirty water like ponds, and generally work in shallow water, as intake is at bottom.
(not the ones made for bores)

      • Thanks. It's literally just a pipe that goes up a wall cavity then the water spills out the top. Probably a 25mm diameter pipe. Yep, a pond at the bottom - sand and leaves to cope with (I figured I could just add a separate filter if need be)

  • Very loud though

  • 60L/H that is 10L/min ? Compared to other ( ebay ) pump this is quite good. I build a ( bait ) fish tank with a similar pump, a bit of tubing, 35L rubbish bin, and I am sure the bin fills up in about 2 minutes, once the pump managed to "suck" the water up.

Is this a diaphragm pump ? Self Priming ?

  • i clicked the link , show 109

    • Showing $43.90 for me. Maybe for particular states? Either that, or you are pulling a cached page. Try on your mobile using 4G.

  • I want one but its showing $109 in WA :/

    • Just bought one in QLD. $109 price tag on shelf but $43.90 when scanned.

  • Thanks OP bought one today in NSW. The price was still showing full price in store but it scanned at the discounted price.

  • Would this work to pump water from beneath the ground to water a small garden? Thank you

  • Does this have a pressure sensor to stop pumping when you close the end hose?

  • Interested to hear if these are still discounted… As of 14.00 wst in WA they scanned at original price
