  • Melbourne to Dubai from $405 Return

What's the difference between Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

    • +4

      About 140km? ;)

Dubai is Emirate's major hub. Lots of high rise, but a great contrast between the old and the new - the markets, the dhows, and the incredible buildings.

Haven't been to the city, but airport-wise, Dubai is MUCH nicer than Abu Dhabi, in the times I've been.

People in Dubai don't like the Flintstones but people in Abu Dhabi doooooo.

          boom boom!

        • Omg.. that's superb.

Thanks JV, using that as my new dad joke for my tinder matches opening line

@Homr: It's a well known line about abu dhabi

    • Dubai is more “relaxed” on some Western stuff and generally will tolerate stuff we take for granted in a non-Muslim Country. Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are less tolerant.

If you want to see lots of tall buildings and do shopping, go to Dubai. The difference in travel time from Dubai to Abu Dhabi is about 1.5hrs from DXB Airport to Abu Dhabi CBD. On Shiek Zayed Rd (the major freeway linking most of the emirates on that coastline), the posted speed limit is 120km/h….but many do 139km/hr (that’s when the many speeding cams go off).

Note: the above recollection is about 10 years old (when I worked there). Things may have changed.

  • Does this period include the winter school holiday?

Thanks for sharing. A great deal. I’ve flown Cebu before and they’re great.

    • Not sure, but I'd almost certainly guarantee not. Most airlines don't.

Could add on a cheap return from Dubai to Europe for Euro summer 2020.

    • That’s what I’m thinking

    35 hours each way
(16+ hour wait at Manilla Airport)

(16+ hour wait at Manilla Airport)

      Oh what fun…

At least you can pick up a few Folders while you're there…

    • Or a day trip to Manilla

      • flight arrives ~11pm
        departs ~4pm next day
        oh what fun!

        • That's why it's cheap, wow!

      • Oh yes…

and spend the day at the beach…

        • omg nearly as busy as a melbourne train or tram

    • Is there any way to make this worth it? Like 2-3 days in manilla, if you leave the airport do you need a visa to sleep in a hotel? Basically asking how do I avoid sleeping in an airport for 17 hours?

      • -3

do you need a visa to sleep in a hotel?

No, most also accept Mastercard and AMEX.

        • So you can just walk out of the airport and come back at 4pm no troubles? That's not the worst idea if you can find a cheap hotel near by

          • @SnakeDoc:

So you can just walk out of the airport and come back at 4pm no troubles?

I do it all the time when I fly to Sydney for business.

  • Very hot in Dubai from April through August.

  • All of Asia is available at these prices.
